Race for property appraiser heats up Series: campaign 88
October 21, 1988, Bill Moss, St. Petersburg Times

Smith has made the general charge that Schultz spends too much money on
lawsuits, but he names no lawsuits he would drop. Smith says he would
continue Schultz's lawsuit over a request by the Church of Scientology
for religious exemption on valuable commercial property the
Scientologists own in Clearwater.

State Agency Inspecting Narconon
October 21, 1992, Michael McNutt, News OK
http://newsok.com/state-agency-inspecting-narconon/article/2409975

Inspectors from the Oklahoma State Health Department visited the
Narconon Chilocco New Life Center on Tuesday to assess the conditions
of buildings, food and sanitary services, and to ensure that fire,
safety and health requirements are being met.

Brent Van Meter, the health department's deputy commissioner for
special health services, said results of the inspection should be known
by the end of the week.

Narconon Chilocco, located on the campus of the old Chilocco Indian
School about six miles north of Newkirk, is seeking approval for a
75-bed treatment center. It already has announced plans for expansion
that would allow 150 patients. The expansion is pending state approval.

Scientology Sells... And Profits -- IRS Files Shed Light On Church's

The church gives its proselytizers 10 to 15 percent of what newcomers
"donate" for church services, such as the process called auditing that
tells how far from salvation the newcomer is. That means the top
pitchman in the 1990s, identified only as Barry Klein, drummed up more
than $1.3 million for Scientology each year.

Poisons, Begone!
October 21, 2004, Amanda Schaffer, Slate Magazine
http://www.slate.com/id/2108471/

In September 2002, the New York Rescue Workers Detox Project began to
offer free "detoxification treatment" to firefighters, police officers,
and others exposed to high levels of toxic debris in the aftermath of
the World Trade Center's collapse. The detox program -- based on the
teachings of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and detailed in his
book Clear Body, Clear Mind -- purports to "flush" poisons from the
body's fat stores using an intensive regimen of jogging, oil ingestion,
sauna, and high doses of vitamins, particularly niacin.

"To sin by silence..."
October 21, 2009, Jefferson Hawkins, Leaving Scientology
https://leavingscientology.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/to-sin-by-silence/

Abraham Lincoln once said, "To sin by silence when they should protest
makes cowards out of men."

Most Scientologists know that there is something very, very wrong with
the Church. One would have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to notice.
Violations of LRH Policy have become the order of the day. Violations
of HCOBs have become rampant. We see the orgs being destroyed in front
of our eyes, staff being mistreated, OTs being harassed and invalidated.

A few have written Knowledge Reports, only to see those reports
disappear, with only the lamest of acknowledgements. Or worse, others
have found themselves to be the ethics target after writing KRs ?
censured for their "counterintention" and "enturbulation."

33 ...for the defendant Valli
October 21, 2009, Jonny Jacobsen, Infinite Complacency
http://infinitecomplacency.blogspot.com/2009/10/33-for-defendant-valli.html

June 16: A devoted Scientologist risks being convicted for his beliefs
because the government has left the job of dealing with Scientology to
the courts instead of assuming its responsibilities, his lawyer argued.

Jean-Fran?ois Valli, who had worked for both the non-profit Celebrity
Centre and the for-profit Scientology bookshop, faced a charge of
organised fraud.

His lawyer, Ma?tre Virginie Benmayor, took as her starting point the
remarkable volte-face performed by the prosecution in this case.

The Only One
October 21, 2010, Jefferson Hawkins, Leaving Scientology
https://leavingscientology.wordpress.com/2010/10/21/the-only-one/

I don't usually go to the official Church of Scientology website ? why
give them the stat? But after Karen pointed out that Tommy Davis has
disappeared from all Church websites, I got curious (and let's hope
Tommy resurfaces outside the razor wire).

Sure enough, Tommy isn't there. But guess what? Neither is anyone else.
There is only one name of one real person on that entire site ? you
guessed it, David Miscavige.

Funny, they say they have "millions" of members, and "thousands" of
staff and Sea Org Members. Too bad that none of them have actual names.
And since they have a "Chairman of the Board" one might assume they
have a "Board." Well, none of them have names either, apparently.

Warning: May be shocking for some, but it is one major reason we are here
October 21, 2010, Marty Rathbun, Moving On Up a Little Higher
https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2010/10/21/warning-may-be-shocking-for-some-but-it-is-one-major-reason-we-are-here/

How is this for a shocking graphic to start a post? It's my creation....
well, mostly. I stole it from CCHR. It's here for shock value, so
don't take it too seriously, okay?

Approximately 9 months ago (or so - I'm bad with time, so take that for
what it is worth), I approached Marty about writing an entry for his
blog. My angle? Simple - hardcore critic - the guy who did the
$cientology-KILLS website and T-shirts with OT-III, supports
independant Scientologists. Not the most earth shattering headline, I
must confess.

I haven't been active protesting Scientology in over a decade. They
were downright vicious when it came to shutting me down. I received the
personal attentions of Dave Lubow. What did they dig up on me? Bounced
checks and bad credit, basically. Having gone through a divorce over
the years preceeding my activism, and being young, dumb, wildly
irresponsible, and willing to waste a large percentage of my income to
do things like ...make t-shirts to give away or sell (at a loss!
despite the Church's PR that I profited wildly), probably made me an
easy target. Lubow even called my mother! The man is truly a turd. Sorry.

Church of Scientology set to open The Super Power Building
October 21, 2011, JohnThomas Didymus, Digital Journal
http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/313147

The grand opening of the Church of Scientology's brand new The Super
Power Building is expected very soon. The 12-storey building, which
took more than 13 years to build, and cost about $90 million, is
located in Clearwater, Florida.

The Sun reports an elaborate arrangement of security and secrecy
surrounding the imposing building with nearly 900 rooms. The windows
are blacked out, cameras monitors are installed at entrances with
security guards on duty 24 hours.

When we contacted DHS to confirm the engagement, and inquire as to why
it would be dispatching a federal employee to address an event
sponsored by an organization that's the current target of an FBI human
trafficking investigation, a spokesman told us in a statement that
Shora would not, in fact, be attending. He also seemed to suggest that
the invitation was misleading, claiming that it had been extended not
by the Church of Scientology but by a group called Washington Voluntary
Organizations Active in Disaster:

Inside the imposing, hotel-sized building workmen put the finishing

October 21, 2011, Marty Rathbun, Moving On Up a Little Higher
https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2011/10/21/thank-you-5005-times/

We wish to personally thank all 5000 people who signed the petition to
the White House to investigate the corruption and graft between the
"church" of Scientology and the US Department of Justice.

I know there are dozens of people who went the extra mile by reaching
out and educating other citizens prompting them to also sign the
petition. Double thanks to you all.

There are also five people who I know personally who went even further
beyond the call of duty to educate the public in big ways to assure the
petition made its targeted total. If I omitted anyone who was involved
on that level, please inform me. Do not take this as an invalidation if
you were at that level of involvement and I failed to mention you by
name. These are the folks I have been made aware of as deserving of
special mention.

wheel on the final stretch of the White House Petition to investigate
the corruption between the highest levels of the US Department of

of the US Department of Justice were scheming with Miscavige to use the
credibility of the United States government to wipe out any lingering

Sunday Funnies: Let's Put Scientology Kids to Work!
October 21, 2012, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker

Our tipsters have really come through for us this week with some
fascinating new Scientology mailers. Has there ever been a better time
to be a Scientologist? Just look at all the different ways you can
donate money!

We'll start with this weekend's big event - the International
Association of Scientologists (IAS) spectacular that took place in the
UK. Each October, several thousand of the faithful gather to listen as,
for three hours, Scientology leader David Miscavige takes the stage and
goes on and on and on about all of Scientology's good works and how
this prison planet will soon become one big Narconon drug rehab clinic.
Or something.

We can only hope someone will leak us video of the event soon. And that
Chill EB was allowed to perform one of his amazing rap songs.

The Flaw In Scientology's Religious Outrage Theory: A Man Named Steven
Gregory Sloat
October 21, 2013, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2013/10/21/the-flaw-in-scientologys-religious-outrage-theory-a-man-named-steven-gregory-sloat/

Steve Sloat. Or Greg Sloat, depending. Now that we've had a couple of
days to absorb Scientology's surprising new motion in Monique Rathbun's
harassment lawsuit against the church, a few things are becoming more
clear.

First, this really is a remarkable legal strategy by the church, which
now admits that it was behind outrageous behavior aimed at Monique and
her husband, Mark "Marty" Rathbun, who was once a top Scientology
official. But that behavior, the church asserts, was a form of
legitimate religious expression that should not be silenced by
Monique's lawsuit. To that end, the church has filed an anti-SLAPP
motion, which we explained previously is traditionally used by an
outgunned opponent trying to derail a nuisance lawsuit.

In order to convince Comal County, Texas Judge Dib Waldrip that its
free speech rights are being trampled by Monique's lawsuit, the church
is now admitting that it did, in fact, target the Rathbuns in an
extensive program of surveillance and disruption. In particular, the
church is admitting to sending and funding the nutty "Squirrel
Busters," an intimidation squad that, over a span of 199 days, set up
bizarre protests in front of the Rathbuns' south Texas home. The
Squirrel Busters followed the Rathbuns wherever they went, disrupting
their lives on a daily basis. On Friday, the church submitted
declarations from some of the Squirrel Busters themselves, who admitted
to being sent by the church, but claimed that they had put on their
weird spectacle out of a sense of religious outrage. Marty Rathbun
started the fight, they claim, by saying such critical things about
their religion.

unclear.

Trying to keep public from going to Flag to do their "OT Objectives

to get to Flag to re-do their Objectives.

But, good news, GAG II is "likely" going to be released "within a few

This is founded on fear of what the escapee will reveal of what goes in

It was completely reprehensible, outrageous, and irresponsible for the

Vance Woodward files motion to reconsider his dismissed lawsuit against

https://tonyortega.org/2014/10/21/vance-woodward-files-a-motion-to-reconsider-his-dismissed-lawsuit-against-scientology/

We'll give him this - Vance Woodward is a fighter. The attorney, who
spent more than 20 years in Scientology, then dropped out of it, wrote
a book about his experiences in the church (which he later pulled from
circulation), helped us read Dianetics cover to cover in one of our
favorite series here at the Bunker, and moved to Los Angeles to restart
his legal career, is not giving up on his lawsuit over the $200,000 he
says he still has on account at Scientology.

Like other longtime church members, Vance had banked money against
future courses that he didn't end up taking, and he wants it back. But
Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson granted Scientology's anti-SLAPP
motion and dismissed the suit.

Johnson criticized Vance for papering the court with complaints not so
much about the money dispute but about how Scientology worked and how
it had failed him. Scientology characterized that as an attack on its
First Amendment right to free religious expression, and Johnson agreed.

very complex history - including a failed petition by Scientology to
the US Supreme Court, which resulted in the release of thousands of
crucial documents. In 2013, Laura's lawsuit survived a major step when
Scientology's motion for summary judgment was denied by Judge Ronald
Sohigian. We were present for those fireworks as Sohigian found that
Laura's accusations were credible, and deserved to be heard by a jury.
Sohigian then retired, and eventually the new Judge, Rolf M. Treu, set
a trial date of December 7, 2015.

With that date just weeks away, Laura has yet another obstacle to get
past. Scientology filed yet another motion for summary judgment, this
time saying that how it treats its "ministers" is its own business, and
is protected by the First Amendment's guarantee of religious freedom.

The Ron Miscavige Book War Begins
October 21, 2015, Mike Rinder, Something Can Be Done About It
http://www.mikerindersblog.org/the-ron-miscavige-book-war-begins/

Scientology has fired its first shot across the bow in the inevitable,
cost-is-no-object-when-it-comes-to-protecting-the-reputation-of-Dear-Leader
campaign to try and stop Ron Miscavige's book. And it's a spitball from
a pea shooter.

Obviously, Dave knows this is not going to be good. He stepped right in
the shit by hiring some goons to follow his father and they got caught.
And in his inimitable style he turned someone who was doing and saying
nothing into another voice raised up in protest of the abuses that are
perpetrated inside his church.

The story in the LA Times by Pulitzer prize-winning reporter Kim
Christensen caused quite a furor. You can be sure that this incident,
and a lot more will be covered in the book.

TOM CRUISE PENTHOUSE IN SCIENTOLOGY'S SPIRITUAL MECCA? WE HAVE THE PLANS
October 21, 2016, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2016/10/21/tom-cruise-penthouse-in-scientologys-spiritual-mecca-we-have-the-plans/

(Tom Cruise and the building he's said to be making his home, The
Skyview in Clearwater)

Last year in September, a developer submitted new plans for a ten-story
condo building in Clearwater, Florida that he's been transforming for
several years. That developer, Moises Agami, is a wealthy Scientologist
from Mexico City whose family has donated millions of dollars to the
Church of Scientology in recent years. And the building he's
redeveloping is right in the middle of Scientology's Clearwater campus,
just a few blocks from the spiritual center of the worldwide
organization.

The changes to Agami's plans for the building, which are reflected in
detailed drawings submitted to the city that we have obtained, show
that the structure's top two floors, which had once been set aside for
five separate condo units and a rooftop bar, are now going to be turned
into a playpen for someone very wealthy - a double-level penthouse
including a private building entrance, a massive nine-car private
garage, and even a car elevator.

Why Gilman Springs Road will close for a month
October 21, 2016, Craig Shultz, Press-Enterprise
http://www.pe.com/articles/road-816535-springs-gilman.html

A spokeswoman for Golden Era Productions, the film and sound studio for
the Church of Scientology, said the church looks forward to for the
improvements, calling the road dangerous.

The roadwork won't affect studio operations or the use of the nearby
golf course, Golden Era spokeswoman Muriel Dusfresne said.

"Golden Era will continue to operate as usual and will remain
accessible to the numerous professional actors, vendors and public
visitors who drive in and out of the studio each week," she wrote in a
message.

Building Walls in Birmingham
October 21, 2017, Betty Andrews, YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW3if0fTDhg

Scientology was determined to block our view of the main stage at the
opening of their new ideal org in Birmingham. You could barely get a
cigarette paper between the bumpers and bonnets of their coaches.
Within an hour they had scared up enough coaches to block the entire
street, plugging any small gaps with tall men holding umbrellas.

Fun & Games in Birmingham

Scientology threw everything but the kitchen sink at trying to prevent
protesters and local residents from watching or hearing proceedings.

They sent Sea Org members to distract us, fired up the coaches to drown
out the speeches and used every available umbrella in Birmingham to
block our view.

Still managed to capture some classic Scientology cheese at the start!

KID CORPS: Scientology's internal documents lay out its disturbing ideas
about children
October 21, 2017, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2017/10/21/kid-corps-scientologys-internal-documents-lay-out-its-disturbing-ideas-about-children/

Tuesday night, Leah Remini's A&E series once again provided harrowing
stories of what it can be like to grow up in Scientology. Her guests,
Mimi Faust and Christi Gordon, spoke about the frightening result when
Hubbard's ideas about children being adults in small packages gets put
into action.

Like anything else in Scientology, how children are treated is governed
by a huge number of policies and reports, and today we're looking at
one of the documents that shows how children were treated under the
ideas of L. Ron Hubbard. We're fortunate that one man has done so much
to collect huge numbers of such documents so that we can go through
them today. We're talking about Mark "Warrior" Plummer, who left
Scientology in 1983, and is pretty legendary for the collection of
church materials he's amassed.

Also helping us is Sunny Pereira, who for several weeks has been
working with Mark to pull out key documents for us to discuss. And
we're joined by Christi Gordon, who was on Tuesday night's show.
