MILAN, ITALY MILAN, Italy (AP) _ Authorities said Saturday they closed
all 16 Italian offices of the Church of Scientology and seized books,
documents and financial records.

The raids began Thursday and involved Treasury and Carabinieri
paramilitary police. Officials also announced the closing of 11
Narconon drug rehabilitation centers, but did not elaborate on the
connection.

Raids were conducted in 20 cities including Milan, Turin, Florence,
Rome, Genoa and Naples. The last one was Saturday when police shut down
a recently opened Scientology office in the eastern town of Macerata.

McPherson relatives lead protest
December 6, 1998, Thomas C. Tobin, St. Petersburg Times
http://www.sptimes.com/SouthPinellas/120698/McPherson_relatives_l2.html

Her aunt and uncle, Dell and Art Liebreich, and her cousin Kim Krenek
led a group of about 60 anti-Scientology protesters who held candles
and laid a wreath outside a privacy wall at Scientology's Fort Harrison
Hotel. A few feet away, just beyond the wall, was Room 174, where
McPherson is said to have spent 17 days under the care of fellow
Scientologists.

As Dell Liebreich and Krenek wept, a Scientology staffer wrote down
license plate numbers of protesters who had parked nearby.

Banner plane used to mark death of a Scientologist

He said he wants to "keep her memory alive and to let people know that
Clearwater has a little blight, something in the downtown that they
shouldn't ignore. Lisa's death is just an example of the things that
are happening with Scientology." Church spokesman Ben Shaw said he
didn't see the banner and declined comment, saying, "It's over."

Some interior ministers have also voiced their support for using this
tactic on other groups. "That must also be valid for left extreme or
radical foreign establishments," Bouffier said. Such a foreign
establishment could include the Church of Scientology, which German
politicians have labelled as a money-making cult and denied it
recognition as a legitimate religious institution.

Anons Mark Anniversary of a Scientology Victim's Awful Death
December 6, 2008, Candice M. Giove, Runnin' Scared, Village Voice
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/archives/2008/12/_the_church_of.php

The Church of Scientology was aglow -- three lit-up tree-forms crowned
its marquee and three ornamental wreaths hung on its windows. Across
the street from their ironically festive West 46th Street headquarters
a competing light shone.

It came from the candles solemnly held by members of Anonymous, the
anti-Scientology group, who gathered on the sidewalk to mark the 13th
anniversary of the Scientology-related death of Lisa McPherson.

Soon, it may be illegal to picket homes in unincorporated areas of
Riverside County.

But there's a problem with the plan put forth last month by Supervisor
Jeff Stone: It would ban the kind of protests he and other supervisors
took part in three years ago, when Mead Valley was in an uproar over
the placement of a paroled sex offender in a group home.

Space for Scientology?

The article goes on to describe links between the company and
Scientology's affinity for building underground chambers for storage of

This small excerpt from the IAS event provides an excellent glimpse of
the entire circus performance. Little King David in all his diminutive
glory, Shermanspeaking with his strange, vaguely hypnotic cadence and
almost comical accent on words, spewing forth lies and trickery almost
faster than its possible to ingest. There is another 2+ hours of this
torture. But when you can slow it down, pause the video, really SEE
what is being said, it presents a very different picture than the
veneer of slick smoke and mirrors that gushes forth.

Gabriel recently posted the Birthday Game standings from the Mission
Network and in doing so highlighted the sorry state of this network.
It's a bit harder to see from watching the video real time, but believe
me, the efforts to wallpaper over the moldy, mildewed and crumbling
walls of the Mission network just don't cut the mustard.

Fairman vs Thorburn Analysis and Tax Deductions
December 6, 2011, Marty Rathbun, Moving On Up a Little Higher
https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2011/12/06/fairman-vs-thorburn-analysis-and-tax-deductions/

Tony Ortega at the Village Voice posted an analysis of the Fairman vs.
Thorburn case, see Village Voice Analysis. While I think his factual
speculation about Michael's status vis a vis Independent Scientology is
inaccurate, Tony raises some interesting questions.

Particularly intriguing is his idea about Independent Scientologists
claiming tax deductions for their Scientology donations in the field.
During negotiations for tax exemption in the early nineties, the church
was able to persuade the IRS to grant deductions for Scientology
parishioner "donations" to churches of Scientology. This was done in
the face of a then-fairly-recent U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding
the denial of Scientologists' deductions for fixed fees being charged
by Scientology churches for specific services, Hernandez v Commissioner.
Hernandez is still the law of the land on this issue.

While I don't have time at the moment to engage in a major tax research
project, I will proffer an opinion to anyone affected who can afford to
have a competent tax attorney delve into this area. In my opinion the
Internal Revenue Service would have a very difficult time denying a
claimed tax deduction of an Independent Scientologist making a donation
for Scientology services. Particularly when those services are provided
on the basis we do. That is, there is no fixed price. The person
donates what she feels the service was worth in accordance with her own
ability to donate; knowing, as I have informed those who were
particularly generous on their own determinism, that their donation
makes possible the servicing of others in need who are not able to
donate or to donate very much. I have no problem testifying and
providing documentary evidence that such donations are in fact used in
that precise manner - to service those in need who cannot themselves
donate much. My guess is that there are other Independents out there
who could do the same.

Michael Fairman Sues his Chiropractor -- in Part to Legitimize the
Independent Scientology Movement?
December 6, 2011, Tony Ortega, Runnin' Scared, Village Voice
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2011/12/michael_fairman_sues_chiropractor_independent_scientology.php

Michael Fairman, giving an interview to Mark Bunker for his
documentary, Knowledge Report We've said it before: Michael Fairman is
one of our favorite former members of the Church of Scientology, and
someone we've talked to quite a few times in recent months.

We were caught by surprise Sunday, however, when TMZ reported that
Fairman, a familiar character actor and soap star, is suing his former
chiropractor, claiming religious discrimination.

Earlier this year, Fairman announced that he had been excommunicated
from the Church of Scientology. His chiropractor, an active
Scientologist, then sent out a notice to Fairman and his wife that they
were no longer welcome as patients. Fairman's lawsuit points to
California law, which says that chiropractors are among the businesses
that cannot discriminate on the basis of religion.

How Does Scientology Take Over a Mind? Jefferson Hawkins Tells Us About "PTS"

Ministry of Hate
December 6, 2013, Marty Rathbun, Moving On Up a Little Higher
https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2013/12/06/ministry-of-hate/

Many years ago a story about Scientology in a major publication was
titled 'Ministry of Hate.' At the time I responded with righteous
indignation. Having had many encounters with high level Scientologists
over the past couple years, including very recently, I am coming around
to seeing how spot on that 'Ministry of Hate' sobriquet in fact was,
and is. Scientologists are trained and conditioned to hate. They are
trained and conditioned to lie, defame, and spread hate against anyone
who does not toe their white line; all with an air of overblown
righteous indignation. I witnessed one in person earlier this week.
Another one performed a perfect example of that recently on the Howard
Stern show. Listen to Kirstie Alley's treatment of Leah Remini,
beginning about 33:50:

First, Alley outright lies that Scientology does not 'shun' people.
Then she lies again stating that she has personally shunned Leah not
because of what she has said, but because what she has 'done' and
because of her 'deeds.' Then she falsely accuses Leah Remini of calling
Scientology 'hideous and evil.' She calls Leah a 'bigot' and likens her
words to someone saying 'Jews are evil' and 'Jews are a cult.' All of
these accusations are defamatory and, quite frankly, hysterical.

This performance of bigotry, defamation and hate by Kirstie is not her
natural personality. She was trained and conditioned in Scientology to
act in this immature, hateful fashion.

Mother Makes Emotional Quest To Reunite With Son
December 6, 2013, Inside Edition
http://www.insideedition.com/headlines/7446-mother-makes-emotional-quest-to-reunite-with-son

Lori Hodgson was on a desperate mission. Along with her mother, Dee,
she flew from her California home to Austin, Texas, hoping for a
reunion with her estranged son, Jeremy. "I'm hoping that the more I
share my story that other people will see what Scientology does to
families," said Lori. "They break up families and that's wrong."

She became a Scientologist when she was 13 years old and raised both of
her children in the controversial church. But in 2010, she says she
resigned in bitterness over church policy. Twenty-year-old Jeremy and
his 23-year-old sister, Jessica remained true believers and Lori claims
they stopped talking to her based on a church policy she says is known
as "disconnecting. "

"If you're having trouble with a person who is critical of the church
you have to either handle them so that they're not critical anymore, or
disconnect. Disconnect means you can never talk to them again," said
Lori.

Scientologists Running Around In Circles

The hype is now rolling for the Running Program (Cause Resurgence

Somehow it encapsulates so much of what is wrong with the over-the-top
efforts to sell Scientology. As it is repeated and expanded it devalues
anything of worth in the subject.

Now the claims are that running around in a circle for days on end is a
powerful OT rundown ...from LRH research on the whole track.... and

Postscript: How David Miscavige spun the death of Lisa McPherson
December 6, 2015, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker

We're very glad to be done with our series about Lisa McPherson, who
died 20 years ago yesterday. But after paying such close attention to
Scientology's grimmest of scandals, we thought we owed you a laugh today.

So, as a postscript to what you've just been through, we're posting
something we know some of you have already seen, but is worth a look if
you haven't encountered it before. It's David Miscavige, at the Maiden
Voyage event in 2000, spinning the church's victory after the criminal
prosecution for Lisa's death was dropped that year.

This is some vintage Miscavige, but even more so than usual because
he's spinning these conspiracy theories in a speech rather than
filtered through a Freedom magazine investigation or a Golden Era video
with a voiceover actor.

This IS what fundamentalist scientologists believe. They are taught NOT
to think.

And it is the greatest, all-encompassing "thought stopper" in
scientology. The perfect fallback when all else fails.

If you know a truly dedicated fundamentalist scientologist, you will
know that this is the mindset of them all. An absolute certainty that
they know the answer to everything in the universe if they study enough
L. Ron Hubbard. Within his words are contained "the answers to every
question anyone may have about life..." And this is truly everything.

Tonight's show focuses on me and addresses the subject of Fair Game.
There is a short teaser for the show on the A&E Facebook page. Tony
Ortega has a review of the episode on his blog today.

Obviously there is a huge amount of territory to cover and it's SO
difficult trying to figure out what to include and what to explain and
how. You don't really understand this until you try to do it.

And it is especially difficult to have perspective on a program that
focuses on you. Obviously there are many things I have spoken about
during the filming of this series that won't ever see airtime. It is
the nature of the beast. 30 hours of interviews are distilled down to
48 minutes airtime.

Tonight on Leah Remini's series, two more families get ripped apart and 'fair
gamed'
December 6, 2016, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
http://tonyortega.org/2016/12/06/tonight-on-leah-reminis-series-two-more-families-get-ripped-apart-and-fair-gamed/

Watching the second episode of A&E's Leah Remini: Scientology and the
Aftermath, we were suddenly struck by the advantage of this show having
the luxury to explain Scientology concepts over eight episodes.

Truth be told, last week's great initial episode only bothered us in
one respect. Leah does an amazing job explaining the allure of
Scientology and why she and so many others felt that they had joined
something for all the right reasons, and because they wanted to make
the world a better place. She also provides a stirring call to action
for her show - that she is on a mission to help the victims of
Scientology and bring their problems to light.

But do you see the missing step there? If good people joined
Scientology to do good things, why are there "victims" of it at all? In
the first episode, there didn't seem to be much explanation for what it
was about Scientology that produced victims. What was it about
