PARADISE, Calif. - On Monday, the Oroville Police Department
(OPD) arrested two juveniles who were carrying rifle cases
containing stolen firearms.

After receiving a call around 11:10 a.m. OPD sent officers to
check on two teenage boys who were seen walking with what
appeared to be two gun cases in the 2500 block of Baldwin Avenue.

Officers arrived in the area and found the two boys who had the
rifle cases in hand. Police said the juveniles ran through
Hewitt Park and back onto city streets before one juvenile was
caught.

Officers said the second suspect continued to run from
authorities and was chased before an officer used his department-
issued Taser© which immediately incapacitated him.

One shotgun and three rifles were recovered at a nearby
abandoned house after being discarded by the juvenile pair.

Upon further investigation, it was determined the firearms were
taken during a residential burglary. The two male juveniles,
both 15 years of age, were booked into the Butte County Juvenile
Hall on charges of burglary and resisting, obstructing or
delaying an officer.

Their names have been withheld due to them being minors.

More than a decade ago, federal and state officials and some of
California’s largest water agencies rejected concerns that the
massive earthen spillway at Oroville Dam — at risk of collapse
Sunday night and prompting the evacuation of 185,000 people —
could erode during heavy winter rains and cause a catastrophe.

Those agencies included the Metropolitan Water District of
Southern California, which provides water to 19 million people
in Los Angeles, San Diego and other areas, along with the State
Water Contractors, an association of 27 agencies that buy water
from the state of California through the State Water Project.
The association includes the Metropolitan Water District, Kern
County Water Agency, the Santa Clara Valley Water District and
the Alameda County Water District.
