Tulsa Psychiatrist Named to Evaluate Narconon Facility
December 14, 1990, Michael McNutt, News OK
https://newsok.com/tulsa-psychiatrist-named-to-evaluate-narconon-facility/article/2341177

Dr. John Chelf, a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in
addiction, will make the review and report to the State Mental Health
Board, said Rosemary Brown, a spokeswoman with the Oklahoma Department
of Mental Health.

The Narconon Chilocco New Life Center last month successfully blocked
board members from reviewing reports from an earlier inspection. They
claimed the documents were biased against the facility because of its
ties with the Church of Scientology.

Mental health board members last month talked of naming the agency's
advocate general, the person who represents complaining patients of
mental health and substance abuse facilities but reconsidered after
Narconon objected, Brown said.

Narconon Loses Battle For Certification, Must Close
December 14, 1991, Tulsa World

he state mental health board Friday rejected certification for the
controversial Narconon Chilocco New Life Center, 6-0.

The board stayed its order seven days so officials at the drug
treatment center can arrange an orderly removal of the 27 patients at
the Newkirk center.

After months of board hearings, court orders and press conferences, the
decision puts an end to the first phase of the history of the center,
tied to the Church of Scientology.

Narconon to appeal board's denial of certification
December 14, 1991, Tulsa World

"We will be appealing this decision immediately on behalf of the many
clients in the program right now, some of whom are court-ordered from
many parts of the country," Gary Smith, president of the Narconon
Chilocco New Life Center, said after a 6-0 vote Friday against
certification.

The board also voted 5-1 to stay its order denying certification for
seven days. That would allow for the orderly removal of the clients at
the facility, which is backed by the Church of Scientology.

Narconon Turned Down for Certification, Must Close

He admitted past troubles in the discharge planning and medical record
keeping at the center, but said the program was basically effective and
improving.

Citing evidence from a stack of medical journals, board member Joyce
Bumgardner charged sauna and exercise programs at the center were being
instituted without proper care for the possible heart damage drug abuse
may have caused to the patients.

Sect Appeal: A&E Examines The Scientology Phenomenon

Few sects are as rife with news appeal as Scientology. In its 44-year
history, the church has been embroiled in battles with the Internal
Revenue Service, Time magazine and a half-dozen foreign governments;
had top members jailed for criminal activities; and lists among its
current members John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Isaac Hayes,
Kirstie Alley, Jenna Elfman and Mimi Rogers.

Investigation: is the Landmark Forum a cult?
December 14, 2003, Amelia Hill, The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2003/dec/14/ameliahill.theobserver

A quick look on the internet revealed even more dramatic claims. Since
its creation in 1991, Landmark Education has been described variously
as a cult, an exercise in brainwashing and a marketing trick cooked up
by a conman to sap the vulnerable of their savings.

Landmark rebuts such claims. Not satisfied with simply transforming the
lives of its students, it promises to deliver the secret of what it
means to be human and guarantees them futures greater than they could
imagine.

For ?275 and 39 hours of my time, it seemed like an offer worth
considering. In my head, however, I had already begun to draft an
article about a society so needy that even its educated elite were mugs
enough to pay through the nose for such vague, preposterous promises.

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Tom Cruise apparently won't win any prizes
for using last week's Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo as a platform
to plug Scientology.

The "Collateral" star and Oprah Winfrey co-hosted Saturday's event,
which featured such performers as Cyndi Lauper, Patti Labelle and Diana
Krall, MSNBC reported Tuesday.

"One of the things that we believe in (as Scientologists) is peace,
freedom," Cruise said in promoting the concert, which will be broadcast
in the United States Dec. 23. "I'm just proud to be here, and very
proud to be a Scientologist here and to be part of this."

The Scientology devotee has urged emergency services victims to give up
their medication and inhalers as part of a "purification rundown,'
which favors sauna sessions, ingestion of cooking oil and large doses
of niacin as cures instead.

As co-founder of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project,
Cruise has also supported a new Scientology clinic preaching these
remedies near the Ground Zero site.

has been invited into British schools to lecture pupils on drugs, and
the organisation's outpost in East Grinstead - known as the Effective

precepts of Scientology, which advocates a form of self-help invented

Former Clearwater Mayor Rita Garvey and incumbent Frank Hibbard spent
two hours at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center answering questions

Will Smith Foundation Donated $20,000 to Scientology
December 14, 2007, David Foxley, New York Observer
http://www.observer.com/2007/will-smith-foundation-donated-scientology

Rumors suggesting that Will Smith is a Scientologist have been swirling
and growing as he is seen in public more and more with Tom Cruise, a
well-known member of the organization. There was even an item about it
on Page Six today. But now, the likelihood that the I Am Legend star is
in fact an L. Ron Hubbard disciple seems a bit greater. It turns out
the Will Smith Foundation, which gives away hundreds of thousands of
dollars to various causes, donated $20,000 to the Church of
Scientology's home-schooling program, called the Hollywood Education
and Literacy Program. Recently on Access Hollywood, Mr. Smith
reiterated what he told Men's Vogue, saying, "I was introduced [to] it
by Tom and I'm a student of world religion."

Clearwater business owner focused on growth amid gloom
December 14, 2008, Jeff Harrington, Tampa Bay Times
http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/article937269.ece

L. Ron Hubbard watches over Gendusa's office.

Actually, two photos of the Scientology founder hang on her walls amid
marketing awards and splashy pastel artwork. Located in downtown
Clearwater near Scientology's headquarters, PostcardMania was developed
based in part on Hubbard's business strategems. Shelved behind
Gendusa's desk is a multivolume set depicting Hubbard's business
management technology.

PostcardMania is a member of WISE, the World Institute of Scientology
Enterprises, and up to a third of its employees are Scientologists.
However, Gendusa isn't counting on any Scientology business network to
ride out the recession. Those contacts, she said, account for only a
small fraction of revenues. To grow the business anywhere near her 50
percent goal, she's counting on other strategies.

Scientology Not Christmas Compatible, Say Protesters
December 14, 2008, Candice M. Giove, Runnin' Scared, Village Voice
http://www.villagevoice.com/news/scientology-not-christmas-compatible-say-protesters-6722630

The Santa that came out of The Church of Scientology's revolving doors
was in most respects perfectly credible. He had the grin and the girth,
and even a genuine, whitish beard.

But the Scientology Santa also wore a red jacket embroidered with the
message "Get it! Read it! Dianetics."

This riled the anti-Scientology Anonymous protesters across the street
to shouts and mocking laughter. For one thing, The Church of
Scientology doesn't even believe in Christmas. "They say Jesus Christ
didn't exist and yet they're pretending they're celebrating the birth
of him," said Anon Little Sister.

Francesco Minelli and Luana Barbaglio

http://indipendologo.wordpress.
com/2010/12/12/francesco-minelli-e-luana-barbaglio-lasciano-la-chiesa/

The legend tells that in the night of December Twelve around Bergamo
and Brescia, along with a donkey full of presents, a saint woman by the
name of Santa Lucia, will bring gifts to all kids that anxiously await
her arrival. At times you could hear a bell ring, the donkey has one by
his neck, which calls all kids to hiding, for no one can look at Santa
Lucia, otherwise she'll throw some magical dust that will blind all
kids?Well, Luana and Francesco have been really naughty, for as soon as
the local OSA I/C from Brescia told them to be aware of the nasty
things Indys were writing on blogs, they started gathering all of the
data for themselves.

These are very special people, because in NO time they have absorbed
all that was needed to be absorbed, and have decided at once to leave
the Church! This is some real speed of particle flow?they really must
have some Power! We've been observing "second generation"
Scientologists which hold within themselves amazing attributes. A great
welcome to Luana and Francesco!

Only Scientology joke tires quickly in American Stage's 'Pageant'
December 14, 2010, John Fleming, Tampa Bay Times

In its production, American Stage has also blunted a key aspect of the
show, conceived by Alex Timbers, with book, music and lyrics by Kyle
Jarrow. Originally, Pageant was performed by a cast of children ages
8-13, and reviewers found that their innocence and unprofessional
acting had a certain charm. But concerned about possible intimidation
by Scientologists - as happened with a Los Angeles production - the St.
Petersburg theater cast six 20-something actors, and the kiddy pageant
angle is lost with them in the roles.

The outrageous behavior of Amazon, Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal
directed at WikiLeaks represents a much greater threat to America than
any of the alleged security breaches from Julian Assange.

These companies moved to cut off WikiLeaks' ability to collect
donations and distribute information because of the hysterical
fulminations of headline hungry politicians and embarrassed bureaucrats.

Kurt Feshbach: Shhh, he's a wealthy Scientologist Officials in Hernando
County, Florida aren't backing down in a lawsuit brought by a wealthy
Scientologist who wants to expand a Narconon drug rehab site against
the wishes of local residents.

The Narconon center's landowner has asked federal Judge James D.
Whittemore that the facility's connection to Scientology, and the
recent deaths of three Narconon patients in Oklahoma, be kept from a
jury if the lawsuit goes to trial. We have copies of two motions that
Hernando County filed this week pushing back on that request.

And actually, we can think of several other things that a jury should
hear if this case gets its day in court.

Narconon is "Casualty Contact"
December 14, 2012, Jonny Jacobsen, Infinite Complacency
http://infinitecomplacency.blogspot.com/2012/12/narconon-is-casualty-contact.html

Internal documents make clear that Narconon is a variation on "casualty
contact", a recruitment policy Hubbard developed for Scientology in the
1950s.

See here for full size In the opening section of this part of the
website, "Narconon: an Introduction", I argued that Scientology's
insistence that Narconon was an independent organisation is hard to
sustain.

Narconon, while acknowledging that it runs along principles created by
L. Ron Hubbard, plays down the Scientology angle on its website.

Jon Atack: What we have here - in Scientology - is a failure to communicate

Jon Atack is the author of A Piece of Blue Sky, one of the very best
books on L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology. He has a new edition of the
book for sale, and on Saturdays he's helping us sift through the
legends, myths, and contested facts about Scientology that tend to get
hashed and rehashed in books, articles, and especially on the Internet.

Jon, you're going to challenge one of Scientology's essential tenets
again, aren't you? Well, let us have it.

JON: The central conundrum of Scientology is in the right to
communicate. The Creed of the Church of Scientology states, and
emphatically so, "We of the Church believe: That all men have the
inalienable rights to think freely, to talk freely, to write freely
their own opinions and to counter or utter or write upon the opinions
of others...and that no agency less than God has the power to suspend
or set aside these rights, overtly or covertly."

Another Scientology ambush, this time of Marty Rathbun with Louis Theroux

Marty Rathbun has been ambushed by odd Scientologists asking strange
questions yet again, and this time Marty not only managed to catch them
in his short video of the encounter, but filmmaker Louis Theroux can
also be seen in it.

In October, Rathbun posted video of three top Scientology officials
ambushing him at the gate of a terminal in Los Angeles International
airport. He managed to capture a blurry video of the three executives
telling him to get a life while carrying cameras of their own.

Last week, former church official Marc Headley got the treatment
outside Scientology's secretive International Base.

Feds fund Scientology-backed detox program for vets in Annapolis
December 14, 2014, Rema Rahman, Capital Gazette
https://www.capitalgazette.com/news/ph-ac-cn-detox-1214-20141214,0,1075980,full.story

A detoxification program in Annapolis supported by the Church of
Scientology is treating veterans suffering from chronic Gulf
War-related conditions.

Treatments are funded by the U.S. Department of Defense through a
$633,677 grant issued in September 2010, according to Pentagon
officials. The Annapolis office opened in January, Clinical Trial
Coordinator Crystal Grant said.

Seven Gulf War veterans have completed the program and at least four
plan to begin the regimen next year. One is currently undergoing
detoxification, a treatment designed to rid the body of environmental
toxins through exercise, sauna therapy and doses of vitamins.

The federal money was awarded to researchers at the University of
Albany in New York state, with David O. Carpenter, the director of the
school's Institute for Health and the Environment, as the chief
applicant and investigator.

Scientology Sunday Funnies: What's a little human trafficking between friends?
December 14, 2014, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2014/12/14/scientology-sunday-funnies-whats-a-little-human-trafficking-between-friends/

Welcome to another collection of Scientology Sunday Funnies! Each week,
we post some of the better Scientology fundraising fliers we've been
forwarded by our great tipsters.

This week, we wanted to start off with something that our commenters
have been talking about - a Los Angeles Police Department gladhander,
Captain Dave Storaker, who runs a Twitter feed that's about as smarmy
as it gets. And the breathless way he promoted a "human trafficking"
conference at Scientology's LA headquarters was pretty awful.
Scientology itself was investigated by the FBI for human trafficking
violations in 2009 and 2010, and that probe was derailed for
unfortunate reasons.

But what better way to distract from your own rotten record of treating
workers like indentured servants - including children - than to operate

Scientology domestic terrorists trespassing at a Hollywood studio in

related to scientology managers attempting the same thing at LAX
airport two months ago, see Top Scientology Managers In Action on this

Unidentified Scientology Terrorists
December 14, 2014, Marty Rathbun, Moving On Up a Little Higher
https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2014/12/14/unidentified-scientology-terrorists/

The following video captures a second wave of scientology terrorists
trespassing at a private studio in Hollywood (for the first wave see
the the last post, Scientology Top Management) on Saturday afternoon 13
December 2014. They are attempting to intimidate and silence me in my
ongoing consultant work with the credible production companies
producing feature-length, theater-release documentary films on
scientology. Both of their principle accusations against me (that I
have been paid a red cent for adopting a child and for consultancy on
the documentary) are bald-faced, invented lies.

If anyone knows the identity of the two bearded scientology operatives
and their cameraman please provide me with the information.

Who are those WISE guys? A tipster helps us get some names of Scientology
operatives
December 14, 2015, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2015/12/14/who-are-those-wise-guys-a-tipster-helps-us-get-some-names-of-scientology-operatives/

On Thursday, we told you about a woman who is suing a business in
Pasadena that forced her to take Scientology courses, and when she
refused, she was fired.

We explained that the business, Lusida Rubber Products, had been taken
over by executives active in Scientology's "WISE" front group, the
World Institute of Scientology Enterprises.

You see, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard revealed in a 1965 lecture
that he had gleaned from a galactic civilization which lasted 80
trillion years (yes, he said trillions - hear it for yourself here,
second item) a way of setting up organizations that he called an "org
board." Hubbard ended up denuding whole forests with his writings about
how organizations and businesses should be run, and his followers
assume that he's as much a genius about that as he is about the human
mind and the nature of the universe itself.

5 Things We Learned From 'Scientology and the Aftermath,' Episode 3
December 14, 2016, Amelia McDonell-Parry, Rolling Stone
https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/5-things-we-learned-from-scientology-the-aftermath-ep-3-w455929

Last night's episode of A&E's docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and
the Aftermath offered the host's overview of what it means to be a
Scientologist and what needs to happen in order to to spiritually
progress in the Church. In a way, they were giving away for free what
the organization charges its members to learn over the course of their
life. Here are five things we learned:

1. What it means to be "clear" The first big goal for any new
Scientologist is to reach a state of "Clear," L. Ron Hubbard's word for
being free of the "reactive mind." A person is considered a "Clear"
once they have been deemed free of "engrams," or the unwanted
emotions/painful traumas not readily available to the conscious mind.
To the average person in therapy, this probably sounds like letting go
of one's "baggage" - but to get there requires countless hours of
"auditing" on a small machine called an "e-meter."

During an auditing session, a Scientology auditor asks the "pre-Clear"
to answer a variety of questions while holding two metal cans that are
connected to a machine. As the pre-Clear answers the questions, the
auditor interprets the movements of the machine's needle in order to
determine whether they've overcome that particular issue. Eventually,
after many hours, the auditor will determine that the person is no
longer under the influence of the reactive mind. According to the show,
this is the beginning of a very long ? and potentially very expensive ?
journey.

DOX: How Scientology ensnares the unsuspecting in a series of binding
contracts
December 14, 2016, Jeffrey Augustine, Scientology Money Project
https://scientologymoneyproject.com/2016/12/14/dox-how-scientology-ensnares-the-unsuspecting-in-a-series-of-binding-contracts/

(Note: This article was originally published on Tony Ortega's
Underground Bunker and is republished here for archival purposes)

How do good people get trapped in something like Scientology? One way
is through the series of unconscionable legal contracts the Church of
Scientology uses to strip its members of their civil and legal rights.
As revealed in its own documents, Scientology is designed to ensnare
its members legally, and as soon as practically possible. Contracts are
the legal backbone of the "Prison of Belief."

The public doesn't know about this malicious series of Scientology
contracts. New Scientologists are never informed, advised, or counseled
in advance about the potential adverse legal consequences they could
face as a result of signing these contracts. These contracts are
one-sided and give the Church all of the power while taking away power
from individual members.

Nora Crest's powerful new video: Why you can't be gay in Scientology
December 14, 2016, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2016/12/14/nora-crests-powerful-new-video-why-you-cant-be-gay-in-scientology/

Nora Crest is back with a new video, and this one is timed to take off.

Since the last time she brought us a video message, she's had a major
profile at the Daily Mail, which helped to get word out about her
experience in Scientology. As a young Sea Org member who worked at the
Hollywood Celebrity Centre, she got into trouble because she kissed her
female roommate - and liked it.

For that "crime," Nora was interrogated and then assigned to the Sea
Org's notorious prison program, the "Rehabilitation Project Force."
Conditions in the RPF were so degrading, after two years in the
program, Nora became so desperate to leave, she drank bleach and was
hospitalized.

some other goodies to come too.

things you think might be better explained or covered.

I also suspect there are quite a number of new people who are coming to

He was Scientology's most famous spy, then he turned witness and vanished.
Now, here he is.

In 2014, while we were working on our book about Paulette Cooper, The
Unbreakable Miss Lovely, we got a fascinating break.

A researcher who was helping us said that he had managed to track down
Michael Meisner.

For those of us who study Scientology's history, it's a name that has
always been shrouded in mystery. We have often wondered what happened
to the super spy who carried out much of the legendary Snow White
Program, the largest domestic infiltration of the U.S. federal
government in its history, on behalf of Scientology's infamous original
spy wing, the Guardian's Office.

In May 2017, the state of Russia banned the religion and practice of
Jehovah's Witnesses. The Church of Scientology is being faced with the
same kind of ban in Russia. This is a controversial subject because
many in the anti-Scientology community feel this is a good and just
action. In this video, former Jehovah's Witness and anti-cult activist
Lloyd Evans and I discuss why this is a terrible idea and what some of
the consequences have already been for JWs in Russia under this new ban.

"The Strategy for Clearing Florida"

You can bet it consists of ONE thing. You giving them your money.

They have no strategy. There isn't even an org in Jacksonville. Or
Tallahassee. Or Naples. Or West Palm Beach. Or Daytona Beach. Or
Pensacola. Or Gainesville. And there isn't even a Mission in any of
these places. Their "strategy" consists of mental masturbation. And
your money.

Finally, L. Ron Hubbard's first 'Clear' - Sonya Bianchi - found again after
68 years
December 14, 2018, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2018/12/14/finally-l-ron-hubbards-first-clear-sonya-bianchi-found-again-after-68-years/

We're sad to report that on December 5, Frank T. Hulswit died before we
had a chance to talk with him. He was 94.

His wife Sonya is 92, and her son Chris says she is doing poorly. We
don't know if we'll get a chance to meet her, something we've been
trying to work out with Chris. But now that her husband Frank has died,
we decided that even if we haven't been able to meet her, we couldn't
wait any longer to tell you that we had finally found L. Ron Hubbard's
first 'Clear,' 68 years after she made a memorable appearance at the
Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

For serious Scientology watchers, this has been one of the field's holy
grails, to locate the young woman who stood on stage at the Shrine and
couldn't remember the color of L. Ron Hubbard's tie. For us, this one
is right up there with finding Snow White spy Michael Meisner, locating
notorious Snow White figure 'Jerry Levin/Don Alverzo,' and tracking
down the FBI agent who stopped the Snow White Program in its tracks
(Christine Hansen, interviewed for our book, The Unbreakable Miss
Lovely).

Glam for Xenu: When Scientology celebrities ruled the world
December 14, 2019, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
https://tonyortega.org/2019/12/14/glam-for-xenu-when-scientology-celebrities-ruled-the-world/

We want to thank Karen de la Carriere for digging out of her huge
collection some pure, unadulterated apex-Scientology nostalgia for us
all to see.

The era was right around 1990, when Scientology was at its absolute
height - former top executives tell us the organization achieved its
greatest expansion around that time, with about 100,000 active members
around the world. (Scientology has never had the "millions" that it
claims.) And not only was it larger then, despite the death of its
founder L. Ron Hubbard in 1986, Scientology had managed with the help
of its celebrities to attain a sort of corporate-training gloss and an
undeniable influence on Hollywood, which was terrified of it.

And so was the IRS. In 1993, Scientology leader David Miscavige
celebrated his greatest achievement when the church attained tax-exempt
status after warring with the IRS for decades.

The True Measure of Scientology "Expansion"
December 14, 2019, Mike Rinder, Something Can Be Done About It

On 6 January 2014 I published a blog post entitled Straight Up and
Vertical - Not which included information about the target of "10,000
onto or through Solo NOTs".

At that time, almost exactly 10 years ago, they claimed to have 6410
people who had accomplished that feat.

Ignore whether this number is true or not, we will take them at their
