'Deprogrammer' Taken To Court -- Bellevue Man Claims Kidnap, Coercion
September 21, 1995, Thomas W. Haines, Seattle Times
http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19950921&slug=2142801

The case has become the latest to debate the role of religious
deprogramming, which often involves holding people against their will
while trying to convince them to disavow their religious beliefs.

The players in this trial are familiar adversaries. On one side is
Scott's attorney, Kendrick Moxon, long-time legal counsel to the Church
of Scientology, who has litigated several cases against the Cult
Awareness Network. Scott's legal connection to the Church of
Scientology is unclear.

Moxon and a spokeswoman for the Church of Scientology say the Cult
Awareness Network, and deprogrammers like Ross, kidnap people in
religious groups and force them to quit.

Justice Breyer turns down request by Scientologists
September 21, 1995, Seattle Times
http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19950921&slug=2142844

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer refused without comment
yesterday to allow the Church of Scientology to seize church materials
published without permission on a computer network.

The "confidential" church materials were published on the Internet
global computer network in August by former Scientology members.

Underground hero calls it a day
September 21, 1999, Duncan Campbell, The Guardian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,271742,00.html

The paper was often threatened with writs, most notably when the Church
of Scientology objected to a satirical and entirely fictional
suggestion that Sirhan Sirhan, Robert Kennedy's assassin, had been a
member of its hierarchy.

The Scientologists sued for $750,000 until someone told them that they
would look foolish if they followed it up.

A Southwest Side dentist sexually harassed female workers and forced
them to recite Scientology formulas in order to get their paychecks,
the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Thursday.

The EEOC sued Dr. James L. Orrington on behalf of 10 former female
employees, including three who were fired by the doctor shortly after
they lodged complaints with the commission, said Ann Henry, an EEOC
lawyer. The dentist fired two others after they complained to him about
harassment, Henry said.

David Miscavige: Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
September 21, 2009, Jefferson Hawkins, Leaving Scientology
https://leavingscientology.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/david-miscavige-lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous/

There was an interesting post today about how David Miscavige spends
parishioner money. And I've read and heard other accounts of how he
lives.

Let's put this in context. Here we have most Scientologists scraping
and scrimping to get every possible bit of money to the Church. Some
people have taken out second or third mortgages. Some have raided their
retirement savings, or their inheritances. They've gone without that
vacation or that new car to contribute every penny they can.

Then, too, we have thousands of Sea Org Members, working for less than
$50 a week, with no retirement savings, no possessions, living in
communal dormitories and eating cafeteria food.

The Assclown Offensive: How to Enrage the Church of Scientology
September 21, 2009, Julian Dibbell, Wired
http://www.wired.com/culture/culturereviews/magazine/17-10/mf_chanology?currentPage=all

The anonymous campaign against Scientology, better known among its
participants as Project Chanology, continues to this day. In the months
since it launched "Message to Scientology," Project Chanology has
employed a variety of tactics, including pickets, pranks, and
propaganda that ranges from the purely informative to the ferociously
satirical. It has waxed and waned and waned some more, and yet,
improbably, it has endured, evolving into a peculiarly instructive case
study in the dynamics of online protest. Project Chanology may well be
the first movement to realize the kind of ad hoc, loosely coupled
social activism that many have hoped the ad hoc, loosely coupled
architecture of the Internet would engender. But it's also the first
one founded on the principles of the most obnoxious innovation that
architecture ever produced: trolling.

In court with Scientology
September 21, 2010, Tampa Tribune
http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/sep/21/na-in-court-with-scientology/

Currently, Dandar is representing the estate of Kyle Thomas Brennan,
who killed himself in 2007 while visiting his father, a church member.
Brennan's mother, the administrator of his estate, claims church
members deprived her son of prescribed psychotropic medication and
negligently left a gun in his reach.

According to the church, Dandar violated the terms of the McPherson
settlement when he took on Brennan's mother as a client. Pinellas-Pasco
Senior Circuit Judge Robert Beach agreed with the church and ordered
Dandar off the Brennan case.

But when Dandar tried to withdraw, U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday,
who is overseeing the federal case against the church, denied his
request. His written order says neither Dandar nor his client wanted
the lawyer removed.

More on independent thought and Scientology
September 21, 2010, Marty Rathbun, Moving On Up a Little Higher
https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2010/09/21/more-on-independent-thought-and-scientology/

One of the first things I read upon my introduction to Scientology was
the essay Personal Integrity (taken from a tape transcript, excerpts
from which I am sure I posted many months ago). Even though I did some
very unkind and irrational things under the culture of culthood that
Church "management" had morphed into, I always studied Scientology and
any other subjects with the LRH advice I received initially in Personal
Integrity in mind.

Now, in the cult culture Personal Integrity has been cancelled tacitly
with an atomic branding iron for some time now. Since LRH wrote and
taped so many words critics can have, and still have, a field day with
pointing out apparent contradictions. And Miscavige has had a field day
creating a cult by focusing solely on out of context lines that seem to
justify his atrocious hatred for humanity and mission to make the TECH
unworkable.

The final word by L Ron Hubbard on how to study TECH and the OEC
(Policy) volumes is to assimalite it all, become adept at using it
toward a POSITIVE RESULT and then after a while one will be able to
simply "play the piano" with it; that is use it naturally toward
POSITIVE RESULTS without having to remember individual lines to justify
or direct one's making of music.

The real heroine of the events over the past days, weeks, months and
years is a woman. Mosey has been my rock of Gibraltar from the get go.
She's been my auditor in life, my partner, providing incredible
perspective and sanity in an universe seemingly gone mad.

Perhaps a bit of context will begin to communicate it.

First, on the heels of the Southern California insanity well documented
in the last week of August on this blog, and after one hundred and
thirty something days of siege, Mosey arranged with Carol and David
Kramer for a brief respite for us in Arizona. While the cult surveiled
as per usual, David and Carol made a relatively peaceful day for us in
Sedona possible.

On August 5, we started a countdown that will give credit -- or blame
-- to the people who have contributed most to the sad current state of
Scientology. From its greatest expansion in the 1980s, the church is a
shell of what it once was and is mired in countless controversies
around the world. Some of that was self-inflicted, and some of it has
come from outside. Join us now as we continue on our investigation of
those people most responsible...

Scientology and three parishioners after the apparent suicide of a
Virginia man who died while visiting his Scientologist father in
Clearwater.

Kyle Brennan, 20, of Charlottesville, Va., shot himself the night of
Feb. 16, 2007, with a handgun he found in his father's apartment,
Clearwater police determined.

Church of Scientology paid two private investigators millions to trail David

http://www.tampabay.com/news/scientology/church-of-scientology-paid-two-private-investigators-millions-to-trail/1252846

Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige ordered surveillance on
one of his former church rivals in a secret operation that lasted 25
years and ate up millions in church funds, a Texas lawsuit alleges.

The two private investigators who filed the suit say the church hired
them to conduct intensive surveillance on Pat Broeker, a church leader
who worked closely with Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard in the 1970s
and '80s. Broeker was ousted by Miscavige in a power struggle after
Hubbard's 1986 death.

DISCONNECTION.

Shortly after Michael and Joy declared independence from the church,
two Scientologist doctors informed them that they and their daughter
Sky were no longer welcome as patients at their medical practices.

Latest Scientology legal battle unfolds in Coastal Bend as private
investigators sue church
September 21, 2012, Mark Collette, Corpus Christi Caller-Times
http://www.caller.com/news/2012/sep/21/latest-scientology-legal-battle-unfolds-in-bend/

According to the lawsuit, Marrick and Arnold have a 25-year history
with the church that began after the 1986 death of its founder, Hubbard.
Its new leader, Miscavige, employed the two former law enforcement
officers -- neither of them Scientologists -- to spy on Pat Broeker,
the filing claims. Broeker claimed he, not Miscavige, was Hubbard's
chosen successor.

In 2009, when Rathbun began speaking publicly about his role in the
church, he described how he sent private investigators -- now
identified as Marrick and Arnold -- to track Broeker.

FEAR: Jon Atack on Scientology's Essential Ingredient
September 21, 2013, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
http://tonyortega.org/2013/09/21/fear-jon-atack-on-scientologys-essential-ingredient/

Jon Atack is the author of A Piece of Blue Sky, one of the very best
books on L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology. He has a new edition of the
book for sale, and on Saturdays he's helping us sift through the
legends, myths, and contested facts about Scientology that tend to get
hashed and rehashed in books, articles, and especially on the Internet.

Jon, we've seen some amazing bravery on the part of people speaking out
about the abuses in Scientology. Just yesterday, Jenna Miscavige Hill's
response to Barbara Walters really took guts, and we've seen many other
examples of people like Lori Hodgson and Monique Rathbun daring to
speak out or take on the church in litigation. But you know as well as
we do that the vast majority of people who leave Scientology with
similar experiences never speak out about them. We've talked to people
who were shockingly mistreated, but years later they still can't talk
about it publicly. You said you had something to tell us that might
help explain that situation.

JON: Some years ago, I came to know a former British Army torturer very
well. After his time in the army, he had overcome heroin addiction,
spent years in the Sea Org and to all and sundry seemed to be a
cheerful, outgoing man. After knowing him for years, I was shocked when
he eventually told me he had tortured people. He wept and held his head
in his hands as he spoke. He had killed people in battle, but felt no
compunction about that - they would have killed him, given the chance -
but to inflict pain on a helpless victim had changed something inside
him that no amount of auditing had ever got near.

Justice
September 21, 2013, Marty Rathbun, Moving On Up a Little Higher
https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2013/09/20/justice/

Jesus Christ is reported to have said, 'The measure by which you give
is the measure by which you will receive.'

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote:

Justice is not postponed. A perfect equity adjusts its balance in all
parts of life. {Oi chusoi Dios aei enpiptousi}, - The dice of God are
always loaded. The world looks like a multiplication-table, or a
mathematical equation, which, turn it how you will, balances itself.
Take what figure you will, its exact value, nor more nor less, still
returns to you. Every secret is told, every crime is punished, every
virtue rewarded, every wrong redressed, in silence and certainty. What
we call retribution is the universal necessity by which the whole
appears wherever a part appears. If you see smoke, there must be fire.
If you see a hand or a limb, you know that the trunk to which it
belongs is there behind.

A Change Will Do You Good
September 21, 2014, Chris Shelton, Critical Thinker at Large

"Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change
their minds cannot change anything" - George Bernard Shaw

Looking at the ex-Scientology community, the blogs and video channels
and Facebook groups, I would say that I have put out my fair share of
articles and videos about the abuses and darker sides of the
Scientology experience. Frankly, there has been so much to say that I
haven't yet suffered from anything like writer's block. Scientology is
the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to oppression, deception
and abuse.

But there is a point to all this and it's not just to be a critic for
the rest of my life. These articles and the videos I make are a form of
catharsis and as much as I'm informing and helping others, I've also
been helping myself.

'Going Clear' Dropped from Second Theater Near Scientology Headquarters
September 21, 2015, Pamela McClintock, Hollywood Reporter
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/going-clear-dropped-second-theater-825890

A second Florida theater near the world spiritual headquarters of the
Church of Scientology has scrubbed plans to play Alex Gibney's
controversial documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of
Belief.

AMC Woodlands Square 20 in Olsdmar, Fla., has told HBO it will no
longer be screening film due to "space" reasons. Last week, the AMC
multiplex agreed to rent HBO Films the use of an auditorium beginning
on Oct. 2 after a nearby cinema in Clearwater, the Cobb Countryside 12,
dropped the film. The Cobb Countryside 12's owner had told HBO it
backed off screening the movie after receiving pressure from the church.
Woodlands Square is a short 10 minute drive or so from the Cobb
Countryside.

Now, AMC Veterans 24 in Tampa, Fla., will play the film instead. A
spokesman for AMC said the Tampa location, a 45-minute drive from
Clearwater, is a larger venue, allowing the chain more flexibility.

Pathetic Portland Chapter XVII

How low can an "ideal org" go?

Putting out a promo piece about two people completing an Intro Course
is a pretty good measure.

There should literally be dozens, if not hundreds of these completions
every week. And if there were hundreds, they would still be 25,000
years away from "clearing Oregon" as a hundred basic course comps might
translate into 20"Major Comps" and that in turn probably translates
into 2 clears a week. 100 a year.

Two local theaters drop Scientology documentary 'Going Clear'

Two Pinellas County multiplexes have dropped plans to show an Emmy
winning documentary critical of the Church of Scientology.

Those decisions effectively distance Going Clear: Scientology and the
Prison of Belief from Clearwater where the church's spiritual
headquarters are located.

Cobb Countryside 12 in Clearwater and AMC Woodlands 20 in Oldsmar each
agreed to schedule Gibney's examination of alleged abuses within
Scientology.

Their change of plans led to AMC Veterans 24 in Tampa picking up the
Oct. 2 engagement. Later on Monday, a likewise opening at Muvico Palm
Harbor 10 was announced.

United Kingdom sees Scientology documentary 'Going Clear' tonight on Sky

Finally, the time has come! After a considerable delay caused by
nagging legal concerns, Alex Gibney's Emmy Award-winning HBO
documentary, Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief, will air
tonight on Sky Atlantic at 9 pm local time.

"So glad the UK is finally getting to see the film. Maybe now, they
will publish Larry's book," Gibney tells us. His documentary is based
on Lawrence Wright's book Going Clear, which has never been published
in the UK because of the country's plaintiff-friendly libel laws.

"I am proud to say that the film is playing without cuts - as far as I
know - although with a few more printed disclaimers than on this side
of the pond," Gibney adds. "Even with reforms, the British libel laws
are the handmaidens of power which predatory organizations like
Scientology use to their advantage. Yo, denizens of Great Britain and
Eire: lose the official secrets act and change those libel laws!"

Amazing drone footage shows the Church of Scientology's headquarters
September 21, 2016, Daily Mail
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3799484/Incredible-drone-footage-shows-Church-Scientology-s-massive-secretive-Gold-Base-headquarters.html

Incredible drone footage has captured aerial views of the Church of
Scientology's massive and secret 'Gold Base' headquarters located in
California.

The video shows Scientology's 500-acre international management
headquarters, which is also known as 'Int Base' to Scientologists as
well as 'Gold Base' because it holds the Golden Era Productions studios.

An anonymous source originally sent the footage to the Underground

Scientology since 1995.

DRONE FLYOVER: Scientology's secret ranch where L. Ron Hubbard departed this
Earth
September 21, 2016, Tony Ortega, Underground Bunker
http://tonyortega.org/2016/09/21/drone-flyover-scientologys-secret-ranch-where-l-ron-hubbard-departed-this-earth/

Two weeks ago, an anonymous drone pilot gave us a view of Scientology's
secretive international management base ("Int Base") that we'd never
seen before. Then, last week, he flew us over the even more secret
"CST" headquarters compound in the mountains above Los Angeles, where
we believe Scientology leader David Miscavige stashed away his wife
Shelly eleven years ago.

Today, we're getting yet another video vantage point that's never been
seen before. It's a drone flyover of L. Ron Hubbard's last earthly
coordinates before he left his body and this planet to continue,
Scientologists say, his research into creation's ultimate secrets,
unimpeded by a physical body.

Today's amazing drone footage takes us over the Whispering Winds ranch
near Creston, California, where Hubbard spent his final few years in
total seclusion before he departed this planet at 8 pm on January 24,
1986.

Training For The Future

Following the recent post Scientology and "The Mechanism of Death"
comes this, the Hubbard/scientology idea that training is "for eternity.
"

As an added point of interest, Jessica Pantermuehl is one of Jenna
Miscavige's cousins, who has of course long since disconnected from her
and her mother Bitty - Jessica's aunt. And though she no doubt knows
how to confront and shatter suppressives she has not taken the
opportunity to pop down to San Diego to visit her cousin and aunt (see
Ron Miscavige post from yesterday).

L. Ron Hubbard made the "training is for eternity" pitch many times. In
fact, there is a "Tech Film" featuring Isaac Hayes that is all about
the value of being trained so you could start a scientology practice to
train other auditors on some future planet where nobody speaks any
understandable language. That is the subject of the film and Isaac
Hayes was featured in THIS film and no other.
