I've had a look at some of the pro- and anti-DS pages and I think I
agree with him.

Why _shouldn't_ a public library's operations reports be available to
the public?

Just think what a terrorist could do if he got a hold on those
reports. Won't someone PLEASE think of the children?

I am surprised Don hasn't remarked on the budget cutting the Boston
Public Library is doing to Help Save His Tax Dollars. The Mobile
Library Services department, which serves homebound people and nursing
homes, is being shut-down at the end of this month.

It looks like the separate Audio-Visual department might be gone as
well in another month or two; their materials will just be moved into
the other departments.

A lot of this is due to the BPL's having lost 9% of its staff at the
end of October.

Yep, Don, the library is trying to Save You Money! Sure, this will be
at the expense of service, but you can't make an omelet without
breaking eggs!

Well, gees, Don, so you know who works at Mobile Library Service (at
least until the end of this week) and shared this with us! How *nice*
of you!!!

But, Don, why would we want to contact any of those poor people? Do
you think anyone in that department had any say in their department
being closed down? Do you want us to call so they can tell us how
upset they are that home-bound people are going to be denied access to
books?

Now, gees, with all your endless bitching about The Library, would you
now like to post some comments about all those elders and disabled who
are no longer going to be able to get library books to read?

Or are your concerns about library service only with regards to how
you are treated, Don?

So you'll be happy to pay more taxes to fund this then. Look, you get

General Administrative Notices

The better BPLers should consider being the next
Head of the General Reference Department !...
and acquisitioning and accessioning ever more city documentation
including that of departments like
public libraries departments,
city clerk archives department and
city council committees' documentation.

Customer services practices need to be established where clientele
and even personnel can report BPL transactions that haven't met
expectations yet then get hints, tips and pointers. One model would
be the technology industries' troubleshooting technical support hotlines.

General Administrative Notices are public documents. Here's an example...
