that culture)
We did this about 3 years ago. My MIL had lived with us before she died (into
her 990's). We didnot have the bars at that time and taking a bath or even a
shower using a shower chair were very difficult.
We are so glad we have the bars. One vertical as you get into the tub and one
horizontal on the long wall. They don't look too industrial, and they give a
lot of support (even to those of us who resist admitting that we are aging :)

Wow! Amazing. Hope your DD inherited some of *those* genes.

I used to cut out and use coupons faithfully. My savings
were always good. I now need to get back into the habit of
cutting them out again and watching the sales ads.

Wow!! Did you ever ask her what it was like in the 1100's, the 1200's, the

longevity.
So, um, did she have your DH at a young age, or is he just a young

We're not going to do a real remodel job--more a redecorate job. What we
want to do is paint, change the wall paper, new floor, new vanities with new
faucets--we'll keep the marble tops, new medicine cabinets and new cabinets
over the toilets. We're still debating about new mirrors, towel racks, tp
holders. We're never going to let go of the toilets with the big tanks
unless some sort of disaster strikes. Before we do this we need to have a
plumber come and put in new tub taps. They both drip and are corroded from
years of our City water. I can do sink faucets--but the tubs have me a bit
intimidated so we are opting for a pro on that. They are both small
bathrooms--so in some ways it won't be that huge of a project--but it will
be a cramped space to work in. I'm going to pad my elbows so I don't beat
them to death like I did when I worked in the closets.
I think we'll do my bathroom first--because it has the drippiest tub--and it
would only seem kind to not make me have to look at the snake skin wall
paper my brother chose for it over 25 years ago.
If I was a millionaire we'd knock out the wall that separates the two
bathrooms and make one large one that you can turn around in without a lot
of thought--plus I'd only have half the tubs, toilets and sinks to scrub!
But this is all far into the future. I have to be sure my infection is
gone--and Mom wants to do the "future library" first and now has informed me
she would like to re-locate the 50 gallon aquarium in there to make more
room in the bedroom. Ugh! Personally I like watching the fish at bedtime.
They're relaxing.

I very rarely find coupons all that useful, being a store-brand girl
myself. :-)

It's really just the work involved. She isn't able to do such heavy
work--it'll be me emptying, moving and re-filling the aquarium. We went
through it several times about a year ago when the aquarium sprung a leak
and had to be emptied, re-sealed and then re-filled. I'm not really an
aquarium person. I like the fish--but the upkeep is not fun for me. However,
this is Mom's house. We had to go to court to prove it--so wherever she
wants her aquarium is where it will go. She's never had much to say about
anything in this family and I'm hoping to give her a few years of calling
the shots before she goes.

Thanks, Rich. It's not wisdom so much as fear that keeps me trying to
consider my health. I don't ever want to go through another autumn like I
did this year--it's my favorite season too--and I missed it. I told Mom this
morning, "Okay, I'm ready to continue with September now. Where were we?"
:)
Another thing. The day before both infections I felt extremely tired in the
afternoon--not like me at all--even took a nap one time. Now fatigue sort of
scares me--I'm afraid I'm going to wake up ill the next day. I'm hoping this
fear will go away once I get my culture results because it nearly causes a
panic inside me. It's only been 4 days--I don't know how long it will be
before they are sure I am clear--can't be much longer.
I got like that today. I carried 35 pounds of packages to be mailed up an
incline from the parking lot to the post office and felt very tired--this
would have been easy for me a few months ago. It scared me. I'm still a bit
tired--but we did go to two more places after that even though I was worn
out. I try to make myself be sane--or at least act like I am. Who would have
thought a couple of months ago that I would turn into a sickly weird old
lady. It's not a very nice self-image.

I sometimes wonder why eating things with *more* preservatives in them isn't
good for you. You know? Preservatives=anti-aging, you'd think. (Sigh.) It's
a mystery.

I used to sort the coupons by category like in the little coupon
holders. I "lost" a lot of coupons to expiration dates. I now sort
them by expiration date, and we do a "big shopping" with them at the
end of every month.
Some coupons aren't even worth saving anymore. $1.00 off FOUR cans of
Campbell's soup? Go to the Super Walmart and you can save more than
that. Even after a $1 off coupon, my laundry detergent is still less
expensive at WallyWorld.

3. Swiffered the bedroom, back hall and bathrooms
4. Washed, dried, folded and put away the linen
5. Washed and dried a load of towels
6. Cleaned Mom's bathroom
7. Went to the drug store to pick up an Rx they didn't have in stock when I
ordered in re-fills for Mom last week.
8. Threw out a bunch of "health & beauty" stuff from my bathroom--make-up
(the only make-up I have now is a new tube of lipstick I bought since I got
well), the Vicks we used when we were sick (I have 2 new unopened jars),
opened bottle of bath oil, opened lotion, luffa sponge, small opened jar of
lip balm opened talcum powder, etc. I discovered that we don't need to buy
any antibiotic ointment for a while <wry grin> I may go through what's left
and toss some more stuff that I may never use but is unopened.
9. worked in the garage for a while today. I gathered up and tossed 8 bags
of stuff plus I worked on getting rid of a large item out there--that I
don't feel like admitting to right now--but will probably want to crow about
if I succeed-stay tuned.
Mom made a beef stew for dinner with biscuits on top. This is pretty labor
intensive for her--all of the prep for the veg, making biscuits, etc. I
think her arthritis attack in her hands must be abating. BTW, if you have
need of a liniment for arthritis or pulled muscles we have discovered that
Tiger Balm works great. Mom likes it better than the capsicum cream. I found
out about it from one of the clerks at the post office--who found out about
it from a Chinese customer. It saved the postal clerk from having to have
hand surgery!

Will do--but we may have to live with the garage thingy unless I can figure
out how to move it. I've dismantled it as far as I dare.

Oddly enough it is something dangerous to handle--partly because it's
big--and partly because I don't want to rupture it and kill myself.

Good point, Rich. I'll check them. I need it sometimes--with my cat/monster.
I wouldn't want to catch Cat Scratch Fever. :)

Thank you again! Now I'm afraid everyone is going to be disappointed at what
the big thing is--but it'll be a thrill to me to be rid of it.

It's starting to look to me like Mom is getting the crippling kind. I just
encourage her to keep using them when they aren't painful. (pen repair and
calligraphy + hieroglyphics are her interests these days--which means I have
to find broken pens on eBay). My Great Grandma had it very bad--yet was
able to crochet, write--everthing. I never knew her without gnarled hands.

My Mom preferes any medicine that doesn't involve a doctor visit. The apple
doesn't fall far from the tree. :)

Thanks, Debbie. We're still eating the stew. It may last until Turkey
Day--with any luck!

How's your Mom? I was wondering if anyone at the hospital gave you any
information on how to deal with the circulatory problems? I know it is good
that she is moving--but that is about the extent of my knowledge. How much
she should move and if she should avoid any activities is beyond what I
know.
Brenda
P.S. I think you can get her on Medicare over the phone--or perhaps online
now. I know you can do the SS that way. My Dad did it on the phone from the
hospital. Thing is he didn't sign them up for Part B--because he thought at
that time he was going to get well, sort of retire and do consulting--which
would have meant he kept his insurance with his employer.
