The End of Empire

Chris Hedges | OCT 01, 2017

The American empire is coming to an end. The U.S. economy is being drained by
wars in the Middle East and vast military expansion around the globe. It is
burdened by growing deficits, along with the devastating effects of
deindustrialization and global trade agreements. Our democracy has been
captured and destroyed by corporations that steadily demand more tax cuts,
more deregulation and impunity from prosecution for massive acts of financial
fraud, all the while looting trillions from the U.S. treasury in the form of
bailouts. The nation has lost the power and respect needed to induce allies in
Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa to do its bidding. Add to this the
mounting destruction caused by climate change and you have a recipe for an
emerging dystopia. Overseeing this descent at the highest levels of the
federal and state governments is a motley collection of imbeciles, con
artists, thieves, opportunists and warmongering generals. And to be clear, I
am speaking about Democrats, too.

The empire will limp along, steadily losing influence until the dollar is
dropped as the world's reserve currency, plunging the United States into a
crippling depression ..

A discredited elite, suspicious and even paranoid in an age of decline, will
see enemies everywhere. The array of instruments created for global
dominance - wholesale surveillance, the evisceration of civil liberties,
sophisticated torture techniques, militarized police, the massive prison
system, the thousands of militarized drones and satellites - will be employed
in the homeland. The empire will collapse and the nation will consume itself
within our lifetimes if we do not wrest power from those who rule the
corporate state.

Washington's Wonderful World of Corruption

Top officials sell out to anyone for anything

PHILIP GIRALDI | NOVEMBER 7, 2017

.. It has become evident that anyone can seemingly buy political and media
support for nearly anything as long as enough money is put on the table. And
worse, the sell-out has clearly been going on for some time, with the disease
disproportionately afflicting former senior officials that have been engaged
in national security.

If this corruption from the top down does not constitute a crisis that
directly challenges the credibility of the entire U.S. political system, it is
not clear what more would be needed to make the case. And it was not carried
out by the Russians or anyone else seeking to bring down our so-called
democracy. We Americans appear to have done it all to ourselves through
inexplicable tolerance for a combination of greed and fundamental dishonesty
on the part of our elected and appointed government officials. ..

US gold of low purity & that's why audit of reserves will never be allowed -
expert tells RT

30 Dec, 2017

The United States doesn't let anyone see its gold reserves. Even if the
Treasury has the number of billions it claims, they are not tradable, warns
Singapore's BullionStar precious metals expert Ronan Manly. ..

"The entire story around the US gold reserves is opaque and secretive. There
has never been a full independent audit of the US gold reserves, and the
custodians of the gold, the US Mint and the Federal Reserve of New York will
not let anybody into the vaults to view the gold or to count it,"Manly told
RT.

However, despite the numerous accusations against the US Treasury that it has
much less gold than it claims, there is another reason, according to the
expert - US gold is of bad quality. ..

"So even if the US has the amount of gold it claims to have, most of this gold
would not be acceptable for trading on the international market, and could
only be used in swap transactions with other central banks that wished to swap
Good Delivery gold bars for low purity and unusual weight US held gold bars,"
..

A proper check of the US gold reserves should include weighing all gold bars,
checking assays, and publishing a full weight list in the public domain; the
audit would have to be conducted by an entirely independent auditor. It will
never be allowed by Washington, Manly says.

wrong with any of it. Why worry about it anyway? You are of the

We have more used gold in our pawn shops then most countries even own.

As for China...They are deeply in debt and have whole empty cities just
sitting there sucking up maintenance and Security money. The very last
thing China would ever want to do is to destroy its trade with America.
I speak with several Chinese Earth Scientists from time to time here.
They are on permanent assignment to EROS(Earth Resources Orbiting
System) which garners information of worlds agriculture, mining, weather
and a number of other informational items. They pay us for that
information and re-transmit it to the proper Bureaucracies in China for
action. Same as they pay us for tracking their missile launches. Our
farmers and ranchers have Chinese sponsored tours to China on a regular
basis, just to trade ideas and to advise on agricultural technologies.
It might be wise for Russia to do the same. Maybe we can cure all the
empty bellies in the world one day. Or diminish the number of them and
not by warfare.

Efforts by the Trump administration to marshal a muscular international

Such reticence to support the US position is the latest evidence of growing
international resistance to the Trump administration's foreign policy

Russia's Grip On European Gas Markets Is Tightening

Nick Cunningham | Jan 01, 2018

Despite years of effort from the EU, Russia's grip over natural gas supplies
in Europe is tightening, not waning.

Gazprom shipped 190 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe in 2017-a
record high, according to Bloomberg. In 2018, that figure is expected to dip
slightly to 180 billion cubic meters, which will still be the second most on

Russia remains the dominant supplier of gas to Europe, despite years of

soon.

Russia's share of the European market will rise to 40 percent by 2035, up from
30 percent now, according to an estimate from BP.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny arrested during protests

Matthew Chance, Mary Ilyushina, Sheena McKenzie | January 28, 2018

.. Navalny, a longtime critic of President Vladimir Putin, has called for
nationwide protests and for supporters to boycott what he calls rigged
presidential elections, set to take place March 18.

Coordinating protests in the largest country in the world by land mass is no
small task, and the Russian Interior Ministry said events coordinated with
local authorities were held in 46 places.

Demonstrations have ranged from gatherings of a few dozen in remote areas to
about a thousand people in central Moscow -- which the Interior Ministry
described as an "uncoordinated mass demonstration." ..

Elsewhere, there were 600 demonstrators in Russia's third-most populous city,
Novosibirsk, and 550 protesters in Nizhny Novgorod in western Russia, the
ministry said. ..

...

For the whole Russia, about 5000 (cumulatively in all cities and towns) took
part in the protesting street meetings in response to the Navalny's calls
for a nationwide protest January 28.

Mr. Navalny was a promising opposition figure about 5 years ago, but since
then many of his former fans became disappointed in him. Two main things have
spoiled his political activist career. First is abuse of unfounded or fake
accusations against those whom he branded as corruptionaries. Really, in the
very recent years, in the heat of his anti-corruption activism, he made
inter alia some bold accusations that turned out to be easily verifiable as a
[deliberate] fiction. Second is his appeal for support to 'the west'. He
wrote articles for the Atlanticist MSM calling to impose sanctions on Russia,
also he cooperated with some 'toxic' persons (known as those who represent an
ugly agenda). Besides that, many dislike the fact that Navalny intentionally
uses provocative tactics on the regular basis, - by unnecessary violation of
regulations in order to make himself detained [for a short time] by the police
thus producing 'dramatic footage' for the mass media.

In the current climate, that means Russia. And so it is that the successful
performance of the Five Stars Movement in this week's Italian general
election is being put down to the malign influence of Russia, and being
debated more in terms of what it means for the allegedly relentless rise of
Russian power than in terms of Italian domestic politics.

Hot off the mark was former American ambassador to the United Nations
Samantha Power, who tweeted on Monday that, 'In the past 2 years, Putin has
won elections in the United States, Austria, Czechia & now Italy. He's also
delivered Brexit & performed well in France & Germany.' And today, the
Sunday edition of the New York Times contains an op-ed
<http://clck.ru/CxE7J> by regular columnist Frank Bruni entitled 'Italy has
dumped America. For Russia'.

Five Stars' performance, writes Bruni,

was characterized as the triumph of populism. But it was a triumph for
Putin, too: proof that many Italians have jilted and replaced us - with
Russia.

When they cast their votes, Italians were, of course, not thinking of their
country's own internal problems, issues relating to large-scale immigration
from North Africa, or anything like that ..

...

Since the Perverted Left cannot recognize its bankruptcy in a honest way,
they seek someone else to blame for. The Perverted Left is not actually a
pro-socialist thing like the silly rightards blame it, the Perverted Left is
tightly associated with powerful elites and corporate interests. And they
have powerful tools to support their agenda by making things up.
