buried just below the surface of human brains
with a dog's keen nose,
the cleverly hidden crimes, unexpectedly exposed
The dog can play the role of Russian cosmonaut,
land on Mars, head toward the stars,
use its teeth to pull playfully at shirts
of senior citizens, so you can see their scars
Or the dog as holy fool can dig for many miles more
through the Earth's mantle, down to the core
Expose the hate of the Church's choir
Show you the possible, consequential fire
Strange worlds are unearthed, as the dog digs down

Nearly two years after a monument was built in her memory, Laika
unexpectedly appeared in Red Square claiming that she was alive
and well.
The 54 year old space dog was considered a national hero after
boarding Sputnik 2 in 1957. It was widely speculated that Laika
died due to a thermal control system malfunction. "It was indeed
hot in there," Laika said in her first public interview since
1957, "but my training prepared me for it."
When asked how she survived, Laika stated that it was "rough."
It is still not clear how Laika survived for nearly fifty one
years after the test. "I don't know how, a healthy diet I
suppose." When asked why it took Laika so long to return to the
public, Laika began to lick herself and could not be reached
for further questioning.

astronomy department, worked to organize radio silent periods,
to aid the reception of any interplanetary signals. Major
General Charles Saltzman responded by ordering all American
military stations to monitor and report any unusual signals, but
he didn't order any cutback in normal transmissions. Admiral
Edward W. Eberlen, Chief of Naval Operations, did the same for
his branch of the military.
Monitoring centered on Saturday night, when the two planets were
at their closest. However, strange signals were reported even
before the nearest approach of the planet. Radio operators in
Vancouver reported on Thursday that they were receiving a series
of "four groups of dashes in groups of four". Both the form and
origin of the strange signals were unidentified, and a close
watch was promised. In London a specially constructed 24-tube
set picked up "harsh notes" of an unknown origin. WOR engineers
in Newark, New Jersey reported similar sounds at nearly the same
wavelength.
A Bostonian reported a strange ringing, ending with
an abrupt "zzip".
Interpretation of the signals also merited attention. A Martian
broadcast might be in the form of a speech delivered in an alien
tongue, or Earth might be serenaded by a lilting Martian tune.
But most expected any transmissions to use a code based on some
mathematical key. William F. Friedman, Chief of the Code Section
in the Office of the Chief Signal Officer of the Army, announced
he was available to interpret any otherworldly codes. Friedman
had already gained recognition by deciphering a series of
messages between two defendants in the Teapot Dome scandal.

Russian meat processors to visit Le Mars

will visit Le Mars June 23-27. Their visit is sponsored locally

Love and Rockets are an alternative rock band formed in 1985 by
former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash (guitars, saxophone, and
vocals), David J (bass and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums and
synthesizers).
In April 1995, during the recording of Sweet F.A., a fire broke
out in the house owned by American Recordings, where the band
were living and recording. All of the members were uninjured,
but their visiting friend Genesis P. Orridge of Psychic TV was
injured escaping the fire.
The band lost their gear (a photo of a burnt guitar was used for
the album cover of Sweet F.A.) and months of work on the album.
There was a lengthy legal battle between the band, their label,
and the label's insurance company. Love and Rockets was found
not responsible for the fire. Lift came out in 1998
on Red Ant Records, and the band disbanded in 1999

collection Leaves of Grass, famed poet Walt Whitman wrote of a
"strange huge meteor-procession" in such vivid detail that
scholars have debated the possible inspiration for decades.
Now, a team of astronomers from Texas State University-San
Marcos has applied its unique brand of forensic astronomy to the
question, rediscovering one of the most famous celestial events
of Whitman's day -- one that inspired both Whitman and famed
landscape painter Frederic Church -- yet became inexplicably
forgotten by modern times.
Texas State physics faculty members Donald Olson and Russell
Doescher, English professor Marilynn S. Olson and Honors Program
student Ava G. Pope publish their findings in the July 2010
edition of Sky & Telescope magazine.
"This is the 150th anniversary of the event that inspired both
Whitman and Church," Donald Olson said. "It was an Earth-grazing
meteor procession."
Fires in the Sky
Whitman, known as a keen observer of the sky, included
significant references to contemporary as well as cosmic events
in his poem "Year of Meteors. (1859-60.)" published in Leaves of
Grass. A "great comet" in the poem that appeared unexpectedly in
the northern sky is readily identified as the Great Comet of
1860
Although Whitman is documented as having observed the 1833
Leonids, the Texas State researchers were able to discount that
meteor storm because the timeframe conflicts with the poem's,
and Whitman's descriptions of the two events are very different.
The 1858 Leonids were also discounted after the research team
discovered a dating error misattributing some of Whitman's
observations of the 1833 Leonids to the latter year.
By contrast, the 1859 fireball was well-documented and happened
during the timeframe of the poem. The fireball, however, was a
single meteor, not a procession. Compounding the problem, the
1859 fireball was a daylight meteor, whereas Whitman describes
the procession as happening at night.

Oh, yeah! I was eagerly awaiting the deranged reaction of James
Hartline regarding the tragic, dangerous fires in Southern

Hartline, a fundamentalist, recloseted gay man with AIDS (he
contracted HIV from years of unsafe sex in bathhouses) today
sees himself as battling dark forces in San Diego's "homosexual
stronghold of Hillcrest," says the fires are God's wrath on the
Homosexual Agenda. They shook their fists at God and said, "We
don't care what God says, we will issue our legal brief to
support gay marriage in San Diego!" Then Mayor Jerry Sanders
mocked the Christian vote and signed off on this rebellious
legal document to support same-sex marriage.

For him to exploit the disaster of thousand being burned out of

Russia fires pose nuclear threat
The military prosecutor for the Moscow region gave orders to

widespread reports that a communications centre belonging to the
country's General Staff was burned down in the Moscow region.
