Five years or so ago I used proxychains, but not since then. I now
have a need for it but I can't get it to work.

I am running multilib slackware 14.2. Thinking the problem might
be the multilib I fired up a straight 14.2 64 bit system and
it, too, would not connect to any site under proxychains.

I have tried building proxychains from Slackbuilds as well
as pulling down a prebuilt package from Slackonly.

I have pulled down proxies from both
www.xroxy.com/
hidemyass.com

and none of them work with proxylist, but they do work
if I insert them into the firefox proxy option.

I have tried the various chainings, but mostly I use
dynamic_chain. I never use more than one proxy in the
proxylist. Otherwise the proxychains.conf file is
stock.

I would appreciate any ideas of how I could be screwing
up what should be a simple process.

Thanks.

FYI, responding to my own post.

It seems that the current proxychains assumes you have enabled
the tor network. Correspondingly the first entry in the
proxychain is:
socks4 127.0.0.1 9050

change this to:
http 127.0.0.1 9050

and the chain will start up without tor

Sorry, this did work once. Not again. I still need suggestions
on how to get proxychains to work.
