Jamaican Shower Posse Gang Leader Vivian Blake Dies
by tffhthewriter March 23, 2010, 15:53pm

Vivian Blake, leader of a notorious Brooklyn gang was pronounced dead
Sunday (March 21) at a West Indian Hospital after suffering from a heart
attack.

Blake who was the leader of the Shower Posse Gang, which was founded in
Brooklyn and responsible for over 1,400 slayings in the United States
during the 1980's, died one day after being admitted to the University
Hospital of the West Indies for treatment after cardiac arrest.

Blake, who is widely known after BET profiled him in the American
Gangster series, had previously been well known by authorities who
accused Blake of shipping over 1,000 tons of cocaine into the United
States and using the proceeds to purchase artilleries of weapons.

Blake fled the United States. He was eventually sentenced to 28 years in
prison for the crime, although he only served nine years of the prison
term.

After his release, Blake seemed to lay low until being tapped for the
special. Once he saw the interest in his life it is stated that he
decided to write a movie based on his time as New York's reigning drug
king pin.

According to reports, months prior to his death, Blake was working on a
screenplay of his life when he died with producer Curtis Scoon and Nick
Cassavetes (John Q, Alpha Dog, The Notebook). Blake even called upon
Murder Inc. boss Irv Gotti to become involved in the process of bringing
his gruesome legend to the silver screen.

According to authorities although Blake appeared dormant, The Shower
Posse is still active in the United States and the U.S. is attempting to
extradite the criminal organization's current leader, Christopher
"Dudus" Coke, who is accused of selling crack and marijuana in the
United States through the Shower Posse.

According to insiders an attempt was made on Vivian Blake's life in
September, while his brother Paul was killed in November.

I wonder whether his name dictated his occupation or vice versa.
