Joe McKnight, former Jets running back, killed in New Orleans road rage shooting

BY Daniel Popper follow

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Updated: Thursday, December 1, 2016, 7:36 PM

Former Jets running back and returner Joe McKnight was reportedly shot and killed in a New Orleans suburb on Thursday afternoon. He was 28.

The shooting, which was reported at 3 p.m., occurred after an argument at an intersection in Terrytown, La., the Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office told The Times-Picayune.

The shooter has been identified as 54-year-old Ronald Gasser, according to the Times-Picayune. Gasser reportedly remained at the scene and gave his gun to authorities. He is reportedly in custody.

A witness told the newspaper she observed one man yelling at another at the intersection. One man, McKnight, was “trying to apologize," as the man yelling then shot him multiple times.

The shooter then “stood over” the victim and said “I told you don’t f--k with me” before firing another shot, according to the witness.

The Jets drafted McKnight in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft out of USC. He spent three years with the Jets before being cut in training camp in 2013. During training camp that year, McKnight failed a conditioning test and was arrested in New Jersey for outstanding traffic violations.

McKnight played two games for the Chiefs in 2014 and has been out of the NFL since then.

Former Saints defensive lineman Will Smith was also shot and killed in New Orleans earlier this year after a minor car crash. Terrytown is just more than five miles away from downtown New Orleans.

I Googled "siamese twins" and found page after page after page of examples
of siamese twins. Dozens of them. So I guess the odds of giving birth to
siamese twins aren't all that long.

I Googled "spontaneous human combustion" and formed the same conclusion
about that.

When this is how some people "learn" and make conclusions about the way
society and the world works, it's no surprise that people like Obama and
Clinton get so many votes.

I see it live and in action every day with youngsters from early grades to
post-grads. If it's not on Google in 4 succint sentences, it never
happened. If it did happen, then that explanation becomes fact. How can a
normal American graduate from college and not know who was the first
president of the U.S.? Much less a working familiarity with basic
concepts of a man known as Aristotle. The STEM kids can at least hold a
thought for a few seconds.

In the mid-80s before he became a substitute host for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show and before he was even well-known, I saw Jay Leno do a stand up act at a local theater. My wife and I were big fans because we saw him several times on "Late Night with David Letterman". At the time, he was doing a routine where the "evil twin" concept was discussed, in terms of how often it is part of a plot on made-for-TV movies and other shows. We arrived at the theater early and saw Jay standing in front of the stage talking to some fans. We spoke to him for awhile and got his autograph. As he was signing it, I asked him, "Jay, is this really you, or is it your evil twin?". With a smirk on his face and one raised eyebrow, he looked at me and said, "Ya never know."
