Aka Katherine Arabelle Buckbee, she also illustrated the "Let's Find Out"
book series in the 1970s. Children's writers she's worked for include
Millicent Selsam, Seymour Simon and Joan Lexau.

From Wikipedia: "Ranger Rick is the oldest and biggest children's
nature magazine." It's published by the National Wildlife Federation.

"Arabelle was a commercial artist who spent much of her career years in
New York City. Among her works were many nature drawings, she was an
illustrator including numerous drawings for the 'Ranger Rick' children's
magazine. Arabelle and her husband, Bob Buckbee were naturalists at heart.
They retired first to an isolated farm off Rush Road in Richhill Township,
Greene County, Pennsylvania. They were instrumental in the organization of
what has become the Annual Wildflower Walk that takes place during the
first weekend in May along the Enlow Valley in northern Richhill Township.
Bob and Arabelle's later retirement years were spent in Port Charlotte,
Florida."

I couldn't find a simple bibliography, so here's another list, in
alphabetical order. (Mostly about animals.)

(nice long 1997 article about Wheatley: "Artist's work chronicles her history")

Excerpt:

...In 1943 she landed her first job designing medical posters for the
armed forces at the Venereal Disease Institute in Raleigh, NC. "The
particular subjects I was asked to illustrate were not precisely what I
thought I would be painting when I was at school," she said...
