Anyone have any information on Catherine Mackin? I was told she was a
reporter for NBC News in the 70's, but I have no recollection of that. I
remember Nancy Dickerson well from when I was growing up. I believe she
worked for NBC News. Anybody know about Catherine Mackin? Thanks.

Added crosspost to rec.arts.tv -- someone there may know.

No, unfortunately. (See my post from yesterday.) When she was
diagnosed, Cassie Mackin kept it pretty much to herself. She went to
live with her mother in Maryland and died there. Linda Ellerbee wrote
movingly about Mackin's death in her first book, "And So It Goes."

I don't remember Ms. Mackin (who I believe was also known as "Cassy" Mackin)
passing, and I certainly would have noticed her obit, so I'm betting she's
still alive.

I remember Cassie Mackin, sometime around the end of the Vietnam war and the
Nixon era. SHe was a national correspondent for NBC.

She died several years ago of breast cancer. It had to be in the 80's.

It was very sad, because she was very good, not a Barbie-like newsreporter, and
she seemed so young.

Well, she was...

Hi Kent,

Catherine Mackin passed away in November 1982. Breast cancer. Sorry, I
don't have the exact date. She was 42. I have the New York Times obit,
which I can probably send along as an attachment, if you like. Take
care.

Thanks everyone for your information. If anyone comes across the exact
dates that would be great.
I don't know why I don't remember her. That's the kind of thing that
generally sticks in my head. I guess the thing to do would be to read Linda
Ellerbee's book. And not just for that, I'm sure the whole thing must be
pretty interesting.

I think that perhaps my answer to you from two days ago got lost, as it
had the date. (The Ellerbee reference was in my second post about
this.) Here's a repost of the first one:

Thanks. I definitely missed that the first time through.

The only blonde female NBC newscaster I can remember who died in an auto
mishap was Jessica Savitch(try the book "Almost Golden").

Jessica Savitch is the one who died when her car went into water.
