A previous post-er mentioned the deaths of high-profile iconic actors
Andy Griffith and Ernest Borgnine by querying "who will be the third?"
Yes, we all know the saying that celebrities die in threes, but who
determines to which threesome they are apportioned?

I remember back in 1998 how Senator Barry Goldwater died the day after
Phil Hartman was tragically shot to death. Upon hearing the Goldwater
news, a friend conjectured "That's the third one." I inquired "What do
you mean?" He responded "Celebrities die in threes: Frank Sinatra,
Phil Hartman, and now Barry Goldwater."

"No," I exclaimed, "Frank Sinatra was two weeks ago ... besides, he
was on the Alice Faye axis!"

LOL, in my wide circle, I've always been the arbiter, going back to
teenagehood in the early 1970s. Two triads that always proved my point were
David Janssen and Jim Davis dying within days of each other, and much later,
Eleanor Audley and Elvia Allman. I was close friends with Elvia, and after
Eleanor Audley died, I went into grief mode worrying that Elvia would be
next. I was horrified when I turned out to be right.

I just remember how Sinatra's death overshadowed that of Eddie Rabbit.

In my book, they all have to die on the same day for it to count as a
trio. Those are the only ones that are interesting a year later.

"First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count
to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou
shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three.
Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting
that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out."

Nice catch. And you didn't even link to some horrid faux country song by Rabbit.

In special circumstances (where the principals involved shared the same job),
you can stretch it to over a month (Popes Paul VI and John Paul I), a year
(Selma Diamond and Flo Halop), or longer (Brezhnev, Andropov and Chernenko)....

In groups of three, though, whether they be death triads or simply three
associated people, there's always the risk that one is less prominent than the
other two, and that person becomes known as "the other one"...I'm thinking in
particular of Jose Carreras....r

Or FOREVER in the case of anyone even remotely associated with JFK's
assassination.

There are three kinds of people in the world -- those who can count,
and those who can't.

That was a good one, Pat. :-) But, Poisoned Rose, pardon me for not
remembering who the third death of both of those triads were, and for my
having too much of a life to bother researching it.

My point was that two of those deaths in both triads had the exact same
initials (yes, I know that Davis and Janssen's were reversed.) But then, I'm
sure you were smart enough to see my point...or maybe not.

I wonder if Rich Little and Little Richard ever get each other's fan mail by
mistake....

How about Jerry Lewis and Jerry Lee Lewis?...Jason Lee and Jennifer Jason
Leigh?...Dan Quayle and Danny Partridge?...Sasha Cohen and Sacha Baron
Cohen?...r

I bet you wish YOU were thin enough to sit comfortably on the toilet. You
really need to get rid of that constipation. I imagine some people might
think that if you were right about MY life, I would've sought that
breast-fulfilling validation by obsessing enough to find out the third
person in both triads. But hey, I AM obsessive enough to respond to you.

I have a vague recollection that there was also a third "personality" who kicked
it the same day as Shakespeare and Cervantes....r
