To me as a kid listening, Fahan was THE VOICE on WCBS880. You could try, but never get as good or as "godly sounding" as Bill. This morning Wayne Cabot said Bill was "built like a linebacker" ...from the above link " "Bill Fahan was the kind of man who never had a problem making himself heard. At least not in the nearly twenty years we knew one another at New York's WCBS NewsRadio88. As anchors at the all-news station we reported our share of tragic and happy stories and yet the former always seem to outweigh everything else. Bill, who was much loved and respected by his family away from home, sadly passed away early Thursday morning, June 23, at his Pearl River, New York, residence at 82. "

For those of us who were players in the game as well as listeners, Bill Fahan's was the voice we heard as we made our way to the big city for another morning news shift. His was the voice of reassurance that, whatever dreadful thing might have happened, radio was still there. His was the briefing we could not do without as we prepared for another tumble in the barrel. We are diminished by his passing, and better because he was here among us.
Deep appreciation to his family for having shared him with us.
