The wife of "Family Circus" cartoonist Bil Keane and the inspiration
for the Mommy character in the long-running comic has died of
Alzheimer's disease.

Thelma Keane was 82 and had been living at an assisted-living facility
near her family home in Paradise Valley for the past three years.

Her family says she was singing and dancing at her birthday party last
month, but began rapidly declining last week, and passed away on
Friday.

Cartoonist Bill Keane says his wife was the inspiration for all of his
success, and that he knows she's still inspiring him, even from
Heaven.

Thelma Keane is survived by her five children, nine grandchildren and
a sister in her native Australia.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Franciscan
Renewal Center in Paradise Valley.

Who killed her?

NOT ME!

(I await the accompanying illustration with the dotted line showing
Thema's roundabout path to Heaven)

OK, that's the biggest laugh I've had in a while. Especially because I
just read the Wikipedia entry on "The Family Circus" yesterday, so the
"Not me" stuff was fresh in my mind.

-Tim, who loves Bil Keane (and Thelma) despite it all
