Hello,

Does anyone out there happen to know what the error codes for the
Yamaha MD8 are? I turned my my recorder on yesterday night to lay some
tracks and it reported an Error #8, it does not allow me to select any
options from the menus and it will not eject the minidisc.

If anyone can help I will appreciate it, thanks.

Yamaha doesn't publish what the codes mean but you can email them via
their website and they'll tell you.

Turn the MD8 off and back on again, make sure the drive door is shut all
the way, then try to eject it. I got an error #7 on mine a couple of
times. Yamaha said it was a tracking error, probably a bad disc but if it
persisted the MD8 would need service. It didn't. The disc wasn't bad
either. Just a fluke I guess. Haven't had a problem since.

Hello Marco, try what Simply Steve has suggested as the door not
opening and the code could just be due to not having the door closed all
the way down in the 1st place. The door on my MD8 sometimes ( rarely
)gets stuck and a gentle push on it normaly fixs the problem. I also got
an error 07 code a couple of times in one night after owning my MD8 for
3/4 months,now several months later I haven't (thankfully) seen a code
since. I seem to remember Spaceman Spiff posting a while back that he
thought the codes may be due to user impatience, pushing the next button
before the machine has finished doing its bzz, bzz, click, bzz thing and
confusing it! He may be right! Still, if making sure that the door is
properly closed or turning the power off doesn't fix it or the problem
persists, E mail Yamaha or take it in for a check up,
Cheers,Parker.

Oh, no, I've never had a code so I'm not sure what the causes are. But
you are correct that somebody on this newsgroup speculated that *some*
codes may be caused by user impatience. For the record, I've been plenty
impatient with my MD-8 over the last year, and still never got a code -
altho sometimes I've had to wait an eternity for the MD-8 to get caught
up with me or let me re-enter the final steps in a long sequence of
commands!

Sorry about that Spaceman Spiff, I guess I don't remember what I
thought I remembered! Still, glad to hear that you have never had any
code problems with your MD8.
Happy recordings, Cheers, Parker.
