Am curious does anyone else have 'sore' spots to the touch where the
muscles connect to the bone? I have so many sore spots on my head. I
don't notice them until I run my hand thru them unless I am in a flare.
I have them near all the joints but not in the joints roughly where
bone, ligaments etc join to the bone? Am wondering because of the thread
higher up about knee pain etc...Wondering if that is why ribs can hurt
so badly? Any ideas?
Debby

Well Rosie we do have find our laughs somewhere eh? good name. I quit going
pretty much to MD's except to get refills I got so sick of them and going to the
Dr anyway. My MD back in Iowa would fill mine most of the time without seeing me
as long as they kept working. And I have not done as much research on FM as I
should since before moving out here I worked up to 50 hours a week came home and
collasped. Before that I hadn't had a computer too long to get on line on. So
even tho I have been diagnosed since '89 I was curious if others had these same
sore spots. I knew it had to be FM/MPS but wondered how many it affected. I find
one area of my ribs is worse cause I broke one in 96 from coughing so hard with
bronchitis almost turned pneumonia.

Sore spots on your head? Imagine putting your fingertips at the back of
your ears, then going straight up along your scalp till your fingers
touch together at the top of your head. Or skip that and put the base
of your hand, nearest the wrist, at your forehead hairline. Lower your
hand down onto the top of your head, and with the middle finger (the
one reserved for special salutes) along the center of your skull. A
particularly tender place may well be at about the first to second
knuckle.
Another may be at the bony knob behind the ear. This is the attachment
for the SCM, site of a lot of spasm.
As for pain where muscles attach to bones-even flat muscles, which
don't have spasm problems, become rounded as they get closer to their
attachment point. Excellent spasm site.

HI Debby

I have those sore spots all over -- I had my massage lady do a mapping & she
found over 100. Some do feel like the ligament or whatever it is that connects
the muscle & bone. She also found a couple directly on the bone itself (shin
bone). Don't know what to make of that. And oh yeah, I got the head ones too
-- there's a nasty one right on the top of my head that seems to hurt all the
time...

If it's any help, I get lots of these. Particularly betwen my shoulder
blades and at my elbows, knees, ankles, and hands.

Could be trigger points. "TrPs can occur in the myofascia, skin, ligaments, and

Debby, I have these sore spots all over my body. FMS, and particularly MPS,
attack the muscles and other soft tissue, rather than the joints, so it is
not unusual to have pain in those areas. The ribcage is a most common spot
for those who suffer with FMS/MPS. Nanny

That would be me - I can rub it out and ice and heat help.

Debby,

When I was first diagnosed with FMS, several of the books I read said FMS was
in the ligaments that attached to the bone, so therefore the pain was close to
the end of the muslces where they are attached to the bone. I haven't read much
on it lately, but that was a popular theory back in 93'. I think Devin even
mentions it in her book, and I know when I am in a flare, the sorest points are
right by the muslce endings, although I also have MPS and maybe that confuses
some.....Stay Warm....Paula

I use ice bags on my head and neck and it seems to help the sore spots.
