Send in the National Guard.

Some of us remember Ohio University 1970, in the land of the ‘free’.

Guess I missed that one. My takeaway from the era: COINTELPRO was the
product of the fine upstanding FBI and the thought that American troops
would never fire on American citizens can get you killed. There were
few other little gems like an American president would never lie about a
false flag operation or bombing the shit out of random sovereign nations
for the hell of it.

I'm glad the young people today are still getting a good political
education. Vote for hope and change and get Obama. Vote for Sanders and
get screwed. Vote for Trump and spend your days wondering if bringing on
board the biggest neo-con warmonger is an example of 5D chess or just a
cave in.

Sadly, universities warp young folks into becoming lefty liberals.  It takes a few years of slapping the alarm clock at 4am, going to work and filing the dreaded IRS 1040 Form before the young minds snap back to reality.

Fortunately, the bright ones realize the democrats are just unproductive leeches living off the sweat of America's productive workforce.

On one hand I'm glad the kids are out in the fresh air rather than
sitting in the basement with their smartphones. otoh, there are far
greater existential threats to their future than school shootings. For
example the demonstrations against stupid imperialistic wars stopped
when Obama was elected and never restarted. Supporting crushing student
debt while working dead end jobs doesn't get their attention either. Of
course the 16 year olds have wandered into that tar pit. Yet.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/marjory-stoneman-douglas-students-now-required-to-wear-clear-backpacks_us_5ab3a144e4b008c9e5f4ae74

Amusing isn't it? When they return from spring break the students will
have to carry plastic backpacks, wear id tags, and pass through metal
detectors -- and they're pissed off because they lose their privacy and
may look stupid with their comfort Barbie dolls in their backpacks.
Passing laws to confiscate 300 million firearms is fine, immediate
common sense measures are just too inconvenient for the snowflakes.

Or as one Twitter user put it

Texas Compadre @txcompadre Mar 22
Replying to @lauren_hoggs

@davidhogg111 is against the clear backpack policy only because he'll no
longer be able to concealed his maxi pads.

Laws are always great as long as they affect someone else is the first
maxim in the liberals handbook.

iirc the Guard members were in the same age group as the students. Do
you think putting a uniform on immediately makes a 18 year old mature?

Think of it like this. Dr Who could have destroyed the Daleks. It would
have been like they never existed but he chose not to. ""Do I have the
right? Simply touch one wire against the other and that's it. The Daleks
cease to exist. Hundreds of millions of people, thousands of generations
can live without fear... in peace, and never even know the word
'Dalek'...I know that although the Daleks will create havoc and
destruction for millions of years. I know also, that out of their evil,
must come something good."

Personally, I was never convinced that this was one of the best of the
Timelord's decisions but it was good for the franchise.

March for Our Lives DC crowd smaller than organizers' estimates, imaging
company says
Organizers of the March for Our Lives demonstration in Washington, D.C.
claimed Sunday that some 850,000 people attended the pro-gun control event,
but an imaging company said the turnout was much less.

Virginia-based Digital Design & Imaging Service Inc., which uses aerial
photos to calculate crowd sizes, reported the event's peak crowd size was at
202,796 people around 1 p.m., CBS News reported. The firm said the number's
margin of error is 15 percent

The January 2017 Women's March turnout in Washington, for comparison, was
estimated at 440,000 people.

The National Park Service stopped providing crowd its own numbers.

Saturday's demonstration down Pennsylvania Avenue included students from
Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., the site of the shooting
massacre last month. The march was not allowed to be held on the National
Mall because a "talent show" was being filmed, The Washington Post reported.
Many other cities outside of the nation's capital, including Portland,
Boise, New York City, Chicago and Dallas, held their own marches calling for
gun reform.

Back in the real world where people like me have to make binary
decisions and accept the consequences you can guess why this farce of
fickle and often baseless opinion called politics is so mistrusted. As
far as I'm concerned all of this bickering and nonsense carries less
weight and value than the opinion of an estate agent or a financial
advisor.

If any of you could put a logical argument together you'd have a real
job. In my world you have to come down from the clouds and make the
product work. No one gives a shit about excuses if it doesn't.
