It explains a lot more of the leftist intolerance I see on this newsgroup,
and others, on a daily basis.
I'm in the southern US and I've been all over this country and Canada, and
I hate to inform you, there are idiots and retards all over everywhere.
The worst hicks I've ever met were from Ohio and the worst racists I ever
met were in Chicago.

I have friends in Ohio ... please don't take this wrong guys ... driving
from NV to NJ, as I've done a bit, Ohio was the most redneck part of the
drive ... by far. Few places come close to Idaho for racists per capita,

Well, I spent my fist 36 years living in the southern US. Only an
ignorant prick would lump the population of a geographical area with a
baby killer & a horse "lover".

this isnt the first time Zontar has spewed a line of intolerant liberal
bullshit. Sorry, thats how i see it.
This what I ment by what is wrong with you people.
One of those stories was about a woman who murdered her baby and ate
parts of it. She decapitated her own baby!
Maybe it is just me, but that shit bothers me.
But hey, the mother is from Texas...we all know mothers in texas as
inbred rednecks. It was just a matter of time before they started
eating their babies....
I don't think I really want to associate with people who think like
that.
I live in the in the southern US, and it doesn't explain anything.
There are psychos, pervs and idiots everywhere. Just look around
where you live...wherever that is. They're there.
Geezus dude. You're joking right? Or trolling... I hope the latter.
My sister gave birth to 3 of my nieces in Texas. She never ate one of
them. I dont' recall her stomach even growling around them.
How did I get sucked into this ridiculous thread anyway. <plonk> I'm
done.
Taken out of context.
If you had read the next sentence it would have been clear that I will
not associate with anyone who thinks like that.
I was born in Texas, spent half my life there.
You are stating that you hope that Arlowe isn't joking. Is that your
intention?

Sorry, I don't see anything "leftist" about it.
I do see an attitude of regional superiority, but I don't think you can
cast that in terms of a political philosophy. C'mon now Rod, you're
starting to come across as being a bit paranoid. Besides, you know who
I see comments like this from more than anyone else? Texans.
Zactly! Perhaps Zontar was joking?
> Zactly! Perhaps Zontar was joking?
Yes. I was joking. But in my haste to throw out a quick one-liner, I
resorted to an ugly stereotype (something I criticize in others). It
wasn't funny, it was just plain wrong. Thanks for making me aware of
this blunder.
I want to apologize to anyone I've offended.
I really have nothing against the South. Yes, I'm from New York State,
but I have family in Florida and Tennesee. One of my best friends
lived in New Orleans until Katrina destroyed his home. My experience
with Southerners has been great. I can honestly say that I've met more
rednecks here in New York and Northern Pennsylvania.
Once again, I'm sorry.

I apologize for offending you with my thoughtless remark. It was
wrong, and I'll own up to that.
But I'm curious. What "intolerant liberal bullshit" are you talking
about? I've said negative things about hate groups and white
supremecists, and publically supported The Southern Poverty Law
Center. If that's what you're talking about, I can't apologize for
that. I strongly believe in civil rights - it's not a North vs. South
issue, but a basic human one.
Or are you talking about something else? My criticism of the Bush
administration?
I guess it's the word "intolerant" that gets me. I have friends from
all points in the political spectrum (including a Republican who once
worked for Nelson Rockefeller and is still very active in the party).
I may disagree with a lot of things, but the only people I fail to
tolerate are those who harm or deny the rights of others.

I'm sure you dont, given your own predispositions. Stereotyped bashing on
the south as all ignorant rednecks has long been the hallmark of intolerant
northern liberals. Go over to many political forums and you'll see liberals
from the north or west, endless bashing "the southern red states are all
hicks and retards" thing.
Besides that, Zontar has made intolerant remarks about conservatives in the
past.
I bet 5 bucks neither one of you live south of the mason dixon line. I've
been up north, WAY up north. I'd rather live down here.

whats obvious to me, if I said I was from atlanta, and then made the same
exact comment about New York, its likely both you and RichL would have
jumped on me for being an intolerant redneck.
Apologize all you want, I dont give a shit. All this shows to me, is that
the average liberal, is every bit as intolerant as he/she accuses the
average conservative to be.
> I bet 5 bucks neither one of you live south of the mason dixon line. I've

I have nothing against Texas but when bookshops don't sell books on
meditation because it 'might offend Christians', or when I get stared at
by the Police in a restaurant for the crime of having long hair
throughout the duration of my meal, or when I get treated like a
criminal in a shop because I have a different accent, I think the people
concerned could try going about life without a stick shoved up their
arse. I was never treated like that in New York, New Jersey or Florida.
I also didn't have coloured people being nasty to me for the crime of
being white.
Don't get me wrong, I liked Texas, but it's not perfect.
Yeah, those red sox & white sox fans can really stir it up! Seiously
though, do you find that the southern US redneck stereotype is way
overblown? Up here we're pretty scared of southern Baptists!
tgif,
tony
yes i do. its completely manufactured by hollywood, the whole Deliverance
thing and the endless southern trailer trash stereotypes on TV. C'mon get
real, thats a small part of the population, there's trailer parks all over
the US and Canada. The only difference between the rednecks down south, and
rednecks anywhere else, is the accent.
You're more intolerant than your combatant. Zontar unreservedly apologised,
including an "explanation" for his behaviour, and you can't be big enough to
accept his apology. If you're really that big, then I don't give a shit
about anything you have to offer to this group.
<rodtarded lummox plonked>
Why have some posters in a.g become so sensitive? This group is in the best
condition it's been in for ages, and people are jumping down each other's
throats because they can't decipher textual humour (or, at least, give the
poster the benefit of the doubt)! Fuck me!!

I'll second that. I've lived in Wisconsin all my life, and
the redneck mentality is alive & well here. A cross was
burned on a lawn in Dubuque, Iowa a few years ago.
My only direct experience with the south is a few weeks
in Louisiana (road band). The people I met were 99%
nice. Not real fast-moving, but nice :-)

I totally agree. My high-school girlfriend lived in a trailer park (in
Avon, NY) and was surrounded rednecks... YANKEE rednecks. I even have
a few in my family tree.

There's a lot of self-righteousness and feelings of superiority on
both sides. Maybe I sound a little pompous at times. But again, please
point out a case of me being intolerant. I really need to know.
And I offered my apology sincerely. If you don't accept it, okay. I
won't loose any sleep. I don't have a burning need to be loved by
everyone. But I'm really not here to make enemies, either. All I can
say at this point is that I'll watch what I say a little closer.
- Rich
Upstate New York? Oh yeah. Upstate's been hit pretty hard.
It's universal. There's a pretty good nature show called "River
Monsters", and the host deals a lot with fishing guides from
Europe, the Amazon basin and Asia, and they're all essentially
the same as folks you find on lakes in any given Red State.
Never mind the Canadian series "Trailer Park Boys".

Presumably you are very weak and ineffectual in your dealings with "real"
people. Hence, your elevated sense of "self" when addressing people who
aren't actually there.
It's genuinely very sad that you've publicised that part of your
personality. It doesn't really leave much else, does it?

Texas isn't all one thing. I doubt you'd find that in Austin, but
you might in DFW, and it wouldn't surprise me at all in Lubbock.

They film that just down the road from my place. A good buddy of mine
grew up with Mike Clattenburg, the creator. Most of the episodes are
very loosley based on stuff that actually happend when they were
younger. I find it amusing because of the local stuff but I doubt I
would watch it if not for that. My lead guitar player did the colour
correction for the latest movie so you'll see him in the credits. I
guess he's one of the best around. It's due in theatres soon and will
supposedly be the the biggest Canadia release of the year.

You mean you're not supposed to?
Bullshit. It may be a hallmark of certain intolerant northern *people*
but I don't think it has anything to do with their political philosophy
at all, in fact I know some very conservative Harvard/Yalie types who
act this way.
Snootiness is not confined to a particular political philosophy.

Sure but not everyone who is a liberal engages in that, and not everyone

I thought you knew where I lived; anyway, you lose that particular bet.

Besides, the three guys who have been my best friends in this area for
