One of the first records I ever bought with my own money was the Theme
from Shaft. Besides being a great pressing on thick vinyl-it still has
dynamic sound after all these years-that is a damn near perfect album.
Mostly instrumental, covers all moods, the horn arrangements flowed
like singing, like humming the melody...jeez, Do Your Thing,
Soulsville and maybe The Most Famous Theme Song ever. Isaac Hayes
deserves all the praise that comes to him in the coming days. I don't
think I have ever heard a negative thing about him.
dougal

The only negative thing I ever heard about him was that he stole the "Shaft"
theme from a russian composer??
I don't know if it was rumor or whatever, but I do remember reading about it
way back when...and never heard about it since......
Sonny
Yeah Morgan Freeman almost did on Thursday...........
There's been some speculation about Liz Taylor of late...didn't they
have to put out a press release saying that she was alive to counter
rumors recently?

Everybody stole everything worth bothering with since about 1910 from
some Russian composer or another. Other than Gershwin that is.
You could probably keep five guys going full time on nothing
but idioms from "Rite of Spring" for their entire lives.

Not sure what you mean there vamp by "And a scientologist?" Was he???
Beliefs aren't really bad things, to each his own,,, actions on the other
hand can be..no matter what you believe.....
Ahhhhhh, in the last couple months or so ago I saw an old black & white
movie on TV about Gershwin,,
Thanks for reminding me of that. It was a great movie. I wish I would have
taped it, but didn't know it would have been SO good. The music was
fantastic, nothing cut, full performances. I hadn't been able to find it at
any video store or rental :-(,,, and damn,, I forget the name of it
now,,,,,,,,,,any clue what it was????
Sonny
...noodled out a bit ago that "Flashlight" is pretty much "Peter Gunn"
played backwards...at least it seems that way to me...
I think if you hear something you connect with even once, it's going to
eventually come out of you again somewhere in some "new" fashion
sometime down the road.

I'm still scratching my head as to how George got clobbered for "My Sweet
Lord" ???
When it comes down to it, basic rock and roll barely comes down to more than
3 chords,,, how far can you go with that to mix it up ?? At that point, I
think it's more the lyrics that would contribute to plagiarism??,,, and they
would have to be pretty much, if not, perfectly identical??????
Sonny
> Not sure what you mean there vamp by "And a scientologist?"
Yes, Isaac Hays was a Scientologist. He quit the cast of South Park a
few years ago when they started making fun of them. Apparently he had
no sense of humor about that.
I find that as a positive action on his part to remove himself from the
situation of conflicting with his beliefs....no negative towards others
there at all....
just pissing off allot of couch potatoes who liked the character he
played...
Sonny
> I'm still scratching my head as to how George got clobbered for "My

Well, that one comes as close to an outright copy as you can come
without directly copping the lyrics.
I remember when the song first came out and I heard it for the first
time. By the time the song was over, I was already singing "doo-lang,
doo-lang" along with it.
Good Riddance to Issac Hayes.
I hate Scientologists.
Besides, South Park has been doing fine without him.

"Rhapsody in Blue"?
"An American In Paris" is great, too - score by George and Ira.

Why do you all care if he's dead? I suppose I should expect no better
from the Human 0.8alpha evolutionary throwbacks. It disgusts me how the

above such blatant hero-worship. If you want someone to idolise, you
can do no better than to me worship me.
People that are idolized usually possess some superior talent that few
others attain. Your only talent is to be an absolute asswipe, and
there are plenty of asswipes in this world, so you lose again.

I'm the only 'asswipe' who matters, 'dougal', and my numerous talents
are beyond your recognition. Now, go and join the other shitehawks in
the coward mob.
Thanks Les,, R.I.B. is the one. I had'nt seen the credits and kept saying to
myself about the guy playing George,, "I know this guy, but from where?? "
Later to realize he was a better actor than his son "Alan Alda",,, IMO ;-)
A.A.I.P. is great too,, I'm familiar with many of the tunes from doing
cocktail jazz gigs,, but the movie itself to me leans toward the body poetry
of the likes of Gene Kelly etc.,, not a bad thing mind you, it's ALL good,,
but just what I remember most from it rather than the just plain music in
R.I.B. ;-)

He's very good at farting loudly in public.

You're thinking of Curtis Mayfield. He did the soundtrack for Superfly, also
in the era of Blaxploitation flix. "Freddy's Dead..."
He was paralyzed when a lighting tower or something fell on him onstage.
Damn shame. But that happened in the early 90's. He passed several years
ago.

Please explain.
I just read that Paul Newman is dieing of cancer and has left the hospital
and is going home to die with his family at home. Said he has just a few
weeks.
Well first off it's kind of inept to insult everyone for respecting the
life's work of Isaac Hayes. Then try and play it off like X is a crazy
stalker when she calls you on your wild opinions. There's nothing wrong with
feeling bad for someone you have great respect for, even if you don't know
them personally. Your thinking is flawed and extremely detached.

I was just joking. Is humour dead on this newsgroup?

Well, she's been following me around a few threads lately spewing up
bile, like a lot of them have. I made one mistake and now everyone
wants to see me go down. What am I supposed to think?

I am normally a detached person. I have a psychiatrist's report from a
few years ago suggesting that I might have some form of spectrum autism
because I prefer talking objects to talking about people and feelings.
Further to that, I tend to treat people like objects as well. I can't
help it - it's just the way I am. Is that reason enough for everyone to
suddenly hate me?
I think I'm being trolled! LOL!

"A problem identified is a problem half-sloved."
My basic observation of your on-line schtick reveals a guy who simply
needs to beat alcohol. The posters who've allowed themselves to be
antagonized by you may well be active alcoholics themselves, dry drunks
or those in denial about the issue. It's not possible to say, with
certainty.
May you find it within yourself to beat this thing which has temporarily
consumed you. If not within, then may it come from without, and that
well-wish goes to your most vociferous detractors as well.
Take care of yourself and prepare for the battle of/for your life.
Regards,

Funny humor from funny people is alive and well.

You've made a constant parade of mistakes. Do you plan to stop
anytime soon? I don't see any sign of it.

Then get used to being treated like an object. You reap what you sow.
