When is Monk on? Is it on the USA Network? I didn't know it was time

It's on USA on Thursday nights, but it's also on ABC on Tuesday nights
now. It's a wonderful show, I've been watching it right from the first
ep. As I said, this is the first show I've actually been rearranging
my schedule to watch in years.

My spouse loves it, but also says it's extremely painful to watch - she
says Monk's character hits far too close to home for her.

one of my favorite scenes of the entire series so far is one where Monk
freaks out while having to stand next to one particularly gross little
boy who's picking his nose and ... NO! DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT!!! OH
NOOOO!!!

yup, he ate it!

a killer with a gun is nothing compared to the horror of that scene!

You know, I hear about good new shows like this, and I actually
hesitate to turn away from the foodteevee or Junkyard Wars rerun to
watch it. I just figure that good stuff gets cancelled, why getcher
heart broken?. I'm still trying to get over Sports Night.

(And yes, I thought like this well before the FS news.)

I highly recommend BBC America if you can get it. You get to see the
shows on which "Trading Spaces" and the like are based. Sundays they do
an entire afternoon of "Changing Rooms" (The BBC version of Trading
Spaces) and "Ground Force" (The gardening version of Changing Rooms) both
are a shitload more fun than their U.S. counterparts and are in no danger
of being cancelled.

Right now, episodes show on USA on Friday at 8 central, then again at
11 the same night. (central time) Then the ep is repeated the following
Thursday at 10.

ABC has been showing it on Tuesdays, but I don't think it's on this week,
they're doing Sept 11 type stuff most of the week. I have no idea what
their schedule will be later this fall, or if USA will still be able to
show episodes after ABC picks it up.

Only 11 episodes were made in this first batch, with the premier being
a 2 hour special. I've been watching it from the start, since I've
liked Tony Shalhoub since he was a mechanic on "Wings", and have been
hoping he'd find a part he could really make his own. Looks like this
is it.

SWMNBN really likes that network, but being the CFO for team H-M, she vetoed
the idea of paying $80 a month to get one channel.

Truthfully, I don't know that I'd be willing to shell out the cash for it
(my sister pays the cable bill here). However, if I get addicted enough
to it, I will probably succumb. Ground Force is especially fun to watch
even though I wouldn't garden if my life depended on it. But I can do
without the Monty Python and Keeping Up Appearances marathons that crop up
fairly regularly.

What she said. There's something oddly compelling about both
"Changing Rooms" and "Ground Force". "Trading Spaces" isn't bad, but
it isn't nearly as interesting or as well-scripted as the original
British versions.

I've seen several things in the Brit shows that I'd like to do in my
own home. I haven't seen anything in "Trading Spaces" that has made
me want to run to Lowe's and start loading a dolly.

I am getting to the point where I could care less.

I just finished a new song.

I had a rehearsal for a wedding that I am playing tonight. Tomorrow night, I
have full band practice and then a gig afterwards (solo).

My friend the doctor wants me to help him build a proper recording studio in
his expansive mansion. He can afford this.

Wednesday, I have more rehearsal and then open mic (if I choose to play for
free).

Who needs TV?

I think I should dump it the same way I dumped cigarettes and say 'good
riddance'. I am certainly not going to watch any TV this week (with all the
depressing and exploitative 9-11 stuff).

Yes, I quit smoking one month ago today. I have not had even one (1) (won)
(uno) (un).

I am free of it. The fact that I do not have a cable modem is part of the BIG
financial picture...we are saving for Europe and I have a guitar layed away.
If I want amenities like that, I must PLAY MORE GUITAR.

But, enough about me (finally). Why are you eating happy pills? Should I be
happy with you?

That one is pretty good.

The cable TV/modem package is like $80. We just don't care to pay all that for
what would amount to a small amount of viewing time.

At this point, I say fuck the TV...get the modem and be done with it. I can
always rent DVDs.

If some show breaks large to the point that it actually matters to everyone, it
will come out on DVD, like the Sopranos.

I need to get off the tit.

The MIL just bought a 'detached' house in GB. It costs 1/2 a million dollars.
That's $500,000 for Wavy.

'Detached' means that it's a stand alone structure. Most people there never
get a chance to move unless their financial status doubles or triples or
quadruples...they are just stuck in the same house forever. This is why the
interior designers are so fucking MOTIVATED. People will pay a fortune to make
their house look new, because they know they will NEVER be able to afford a new
one, much less one that is detached.

In the last house the MIL had, she wanted to build a garage. The planning took
YEARS. And, all her neighbors could veto it. They have housing constraints
that we cannot imagine.

I watch about 1 (one) hour of TV a week at home. That's usually something
mind-numbing like Wheel of Fortune or Jepoardy.

I spend around $95/month for the extended digital package (200 channels??),
cablemodem, and telephony service. The Cablemodem ends up being almost $50 of
it. So the cost of vid isn't that bad after the cablemodem and telephony ($20)
are brought into the picture...

But it's still $25/month I'm wasting because I don't watch TV. I'm with you on
this. I think I have it for the sole reason that friends who stop by like
watching BBC America, TDC, TLC, or whatever. Ah well.

>At this point, I say fuck the TV...get the modem and be done with it. I can

CMs are good to have. Is the expense justified? Only if you USE the
technology. You may be better off sticking with a simple dialup.

Seasonal Affective Disorder. The sun doesn't shine as much and I make
like bears and other mammals that hybernate. This explains much about my
childhood and young-adulthood. Zoloft allows me to actually function
during the fall and winter months as opposed to barely moving. :)

Jepoardy is a show my dad and I enjoy together sometimes (he should

With the telephony, that is the best deal of anyone on servo. I do
believe that YOU WIN. See Jaime for your prize.

We watch the BBC World News on PBS when possible, but we try and
shield the kids from the news. Really, our TV just plays kids' shows,
mostly.

SWMNBN uses it more than I do (ebay queen), but I am awfully fond of
kazaa lite. *I* think it would be a justified expense, but...I am not
going to pick a fight about it when I'm never around in the evenings,
anyway.

No, I would just rent it. I like some things well enough to buy them
on DVD, but not many. We own:

Help!
Yellow Submarine
The Fellowship of the Ring
Being John Malkovich
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
High Fidelity
Mulholland Drive
The Royal Tennenbaums
Frantic
Blade Runner
A bunch of kids movies (A Bug's Life, etc.)

I'd like to have:

A Hard Day's Night
The Shawshank Redemption
The Stanley Kubrick Box Set
Apocalypse Now
Up In Smoke
Annie Hall
Taxi Driver
The City Of Lost Children
Repo Man
Citizen Kane
Grosse Point Blank
(many others I forget just now - all the Criterion Collection ones...)

My dad and I like to come up with silly or smartass responses.

"This Edgar Allen Poe is known for this creature 'rapping at my
chamber door."
"What is 'Wreck of the Hesperus?"
"All the President's Men!"
"Shrek!"

The tryout questions are (deliberately) much tougher than the ones

Good luck to your dad if he tries.

This seems like an important thread, time-wise, for several of us.

I don't really recommend trying to bust your tail, but giving it a
little dip every now and then might help.

Just watch what you dip it into!

I'm impressed!

I just changed my cable package. I had an out-of-date package, and
the replacement ended up being about $3/month cheaper with more
channels. Interesting.

I still don't watch it much at all. Never really home enough to spend
time in front of the boob tube - that includes videos! Eek!

Oh, my.

I suppose working in TV for so many years keeps me from watching it
much. I don't know. Maybe I'm just weird.

I've been trying to access the memory banks ever since I made that
first Loretta Swit post.

There was a movie with Goldie Hawn, Meryl Streep, and somebody else -
premise, that you could drink a formula that would keep you young and
beautiful forever. But...

If you broke your neck or other bones, your limbs would remain twisted
(even turned around 180) even as you blithely survived all calamities.
Holes in the skin that would need to be "patched" and other hilarity
ensued.

That's the parable for botox to me. I really hope it falls out of
vogue as people get more and more creeped out.

_Death Becomes Her_. The other star was Bruce Willis, in one of those
rare roles where he shows that he can actually act, if he puts his
mind to it.
