Apparently that search result has been circulated widely in
American-dominated forums, to the point where people in many forums
now get really annoyed with people who point it out. However, I
wouldn't *know* that if I hadn't lurked a bit on forums where people
_do_ get annoyed with people who point it out, so this is only the
second time I've heard of it. So you're safe from me. :-)

I just thought I'd save /other/ people the bother of pointing out how
many times they've seen this particular Google search suggested. :-)

Adrian.

Yup. It's been that way for a while. The process is called "Google Bombing".
It is done by convincing a great deal of people to include links on their
web pages that link that word to that page. Then, when the Google AI
searches pretty much every page in existance in order to update its
database, it notices that that word is linked to that page alot, decides
there must be an association, and links the two in its own database as well.
People used to do that trick alot in order to get people to click on ads.
They would associate innocent words with pages that were ads, or porno sites
or whatnot. Google caught on and now automatically deletes those, but they
have let this one stay because it is obviously a harmless joke with no
commercial intent.

I've only seen it once, on LJ, and no-one pointed that fact out there
(probably because no-one knew about it)

Unfortunately, I bet they will...
So, to anyone who's about to do so, please note that I've only ever
seen it once, and had no idea that people got annoyed by it.

I've seen it a couple of dozen times, over the last few years - it's
been around for quite some time. Recently, though, I've seen it
mentioned a couple of times as if it were new. Odd - perhaps the 'net is
more sectioned off than it appears, and I've been visiting parts of
different sections. It's not as if I'm all that USA-centred, either.
Doesn't annoy me, though. It puzzles me, but it doesn't annoy.

Richard
