It really wouldn't have worked to make them look exactly like they do in the
comics. What looks good in an illustration, doesn't always look good in real
life. Like the old Batman series. They had the spandex suits and they looked
korny as all hell so when they made the movies they beefed them up a bit. Same
goes for the Spawn movie. Sure they don't look like their comic counterparts
but they don't look bad. I think black rubber uniforms look a lot better than
light blue, tan, or bright yellow spandex. It just wouldn't have worked.

Eh, can't please everyone. Course I might refer you back to your own defending
of the Timeranger costumes and mention waiting until you see them actually up
on the screen before passing judgement, but I digress...

Storm's tricky. She's supposed to be basically "a goddess". The elements you
need are white hair and a beautiful african-american female. They got a pretty
good actress for the role who pretty much fits the bill. Hopefully they can the
"incantations" like she had on the cartoon, though...

Ouch. This is, to me, the only one of the cast that so far doesn't work. Jean's
a redhead. FIREY redhead. This picture makes her look more like a muddled
brunette. Ah, well, the pictures pretty bad quality anyway...

He doesn't appear to be a huge musclar guy, which works. Scott Summer's
nickname IS "slim" after all. The new visor takes some getting used to, but
it's pretty clearly in the same design as the original.

They got the hair right! Every time i've ever seen someone dress up like Wolvie

looks mean enough to do the role justice.

Wow, I bet that costume is a pain. Considering she's a shapeshifter, the whole
body thing works for the most part. I wonder if they'll address her connections

For years, people always when thinking of ProfX in a movie will blurt out
"Patrick Stewart!" Nice to see just how sometimes a fan-based typecast can
actually match expectations....
On a similar note, I think Ian McKellan's Magneto looks to be a pretty good job
on casting as well.

I never saw McKellan in the role when reading the comics. I saw Sean Connery
or Rutger Hauer. I'll wait to see it, but I don't think McKellan is the best of
casting choices.
And Anna Paquin as Rogue?
Rutger Hauer as Magneto? Umm, no. I have bad memories of Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, the movie... And Magneto with a scottish accent just seems wrong. I
think Ian McKellan fits the role pretty well. Again, I'm not insulting your
POV, just stating my own.

I was mostly referring the actors and actresses appearance then their costumes.
I kind of hoped the costumes would have helped them look closer to the
characters they are playing but, geez they messed up on that too. Storm does
not look like that she just looks like Halle Barry with a wig on, and they
didn't even give Jean Grey red hair, and what's up with the fish scales on
Mystique. Wolverine is ok, but Cyclops just doesn't look right to me. This
movie just looks like its going to suck in my opinion. ^_^
There's nothing wrong with Famke!!!
But Halle Barry as Storm I've questioned ever since I heard the casting. She's
short. Storm is supposed to be a...manly woman. Why didn't they just get Iman?
>Wolverine is ok, but Cyclops just doesn't look right to me.
I'm surprised at how much that actor has captured the constipated Logan look.
When I saw a picture of that Marsden guy with the Cyclops visor on months back,
I thought he looked like Cyclops, but the visor in the picture at Ain't It Cool
is different from the one I saw (the one I saw was exactly like the comic
books), and having Cyclops' costume exactly like Wolverine's isn't good...why
couldn't they give him the old blue?
>This
>movie just looks like its going to suck in my opinion. ^_^
Name a Marvel movie that hasn't sucked. I always thought X-Men would be tough
to pull off on the big screen, but I always envisioned it as a tokusatsu of
some sort along the lines of the 70s Toei Spiderman (hell, going through X-Men
comic books a few weeks back I thought that it was a shame that nobody in
America knows Keita Amemiya, because I could definately see him directing and
doing stuff for a X-Men movie). I definately have had a bad feeling for this
movie since they made some odd casting choices, have rewritten the script 167
times, and have Bryan Singer directing it....I'm actually surprised he didn't
get Gabriel Byrne in there as Banshee.
Blade
Although I have yet to see it (yeah, I'm slower on movies than I am with TV),
what about the Punisher? Or was his merely a Die Hard-ripoff?
Since the TimeRanger suits are not modeled to look after existing costumes as
the X-Mens are when they don't look the like originals they will get some
criticism from the fans. But no, you can tell me that, I don't mind. Don't
think I haven't thought of that and haven't been telling myself not to pass
judgement until I see them on the screen 10 millions times to keep my hopes up
for this movie, but still. Hopefully when we see them in action they will be
better. I just think with the makeup artists and costume designers that
Hollywood has they could have made them to look closer to their original
versions.

Halle Berry as Storm was the worst possible casting they could've done. Its not
only about getting a beautiful African American female to play Storm's role, you
needed an actress who would fit Storm's character and the part, who has a strong
personality like Storm to pull her character off well and Halle Barry doesn't.
There's a reason as to why she usually is cast in the roles that she is. She
doesn't even resemble Storm at all, she looks like Halle Barry with a white wig
on[what's up with the bangs?] Angela Bassett would have made a perfect Storm she
has her look and personality, also as a former body builder her physic to matche
Storm's perfectly too. Or another strong beautiful African American actress
with Storm's persona/look would have been Grace Jones. If they wanted someone
"younger" looking to play Storm, in my opinion Nia Long would have been a
perfect pick, she has the attitude and look of a younger Storm[it would have
been pretty funny if Nia was cast as Storm because "Nia" is the fifth symbol of
Kwanzaa and is symbolized by LIGHTNING, her name means "life purpose"]:

Oh well that's all mute now anyway, just doing some comparison here. Hopefully
they will computer colorize or even give Halle colored contacts to make her eyes
look like Storm's. Another fan of X-Men pecked her casting role for Storm
perfectly, "Halle Berry is like a cute little teddy bear trying to play a role
meant for a 'warrioress'".

What the hell is that suppose to mean. Red hair is Red make it look red, and
Jean Grey has firery long beautiful hair, not brown.

> Since the TimeRanger suits are not modeled to look after existing costumes

I actually prefer the movie suits. The X-Men have always been a strike team.
Now tell me how you expect to sneak around dressed in bright, bold colors?
While Blade was entertaining, it was far from good.
LoL That's original. What else is a movie supposed to be if not entertaining?
Gotta get that star power (Berry, Romaijn, Stewart) in order to pull
in the box office. I, frankly, have never heard of any of the guys
playing Cyclops or Wolverine.
I'm not keen on the all-in-leather motif either. But, the movie is
not charged with being true to the comic-book look. I just wish there
was a little more seperation between the characters' appearances.
I'm gonna give the movie a chance. Can't allow myself to pre-judge.
I can understand what your saying but for one thing: These are comic book
characters. Black leather costumes might have looked cool in the Matrix and
Blade but those characters were never modeled after any previous EXISTING comic
characters. And ok say they wanted to go the leather way as I said before, its
not the leather that makes me want to give these suits two thumbs down but their
design just doesn't have that X-Men look to them. Hollywood is equipted with
some of the worlds best costume designers and make up artists. They could have
done a better job making them LOOK more like the original characters, since
that's who they are trying to bring to life here, without going overboard, even
with the leather. I just hope the move doesn't end up being a flop as the new
Godzilla movie did when they gave him a "new look". I know people have been
saying they are trying to make the costumes be more "realistic", but come on.
Realism for comic adapted characters? Its based on a comic book story, who in
their right minds during their every day life style in REAL life situations
does the stuff that these comic book characters do? If I wanted a realistic
hero movie I wouldn't be going to see one that is based on a comic. And as one
other fan put it: "then in Mystiques case WHO realisically walks around as a
blue naked person all the time?"

Well, according to a story posted today on SciFiWire, these were "early photos
that were given to merchandising partners for the film." It also said that these
were likely taken before the start of production, so there may be some changes
between the photos posted on Ain't-It-Cool, and what we will eventually see.

Actually Berry and Romaijn don't have that much star power. The production crew
does not have the budget to get the star power that your talking about and with
the exception of Steward and Ian that's one of the reasons they are getting the
actors and actresses they are.

I'm trying not to judge it too but everything that I'm seeing and hearing in

Get this: they covered Cap's ears - but the hood had fake ears on it!!!
There's a really good picture if you can find the 1990 Marvel Year-In-Review

I still like the leather, but I would have appreciated a tad more
differentiation between the suits. They look TOO alike now. :( Even when
they use go the 'right' way of designing the costumes (stealth) they still
mess it up. <sigh>

Egads. I don't think they're that bad yet at least. Oh, leather works better

wtf (there, no young child will figure that out.) The X-Men have NEVER hit
