absolutely, this looks great. if i had greater mobility (i.e. 18+ with a car
and money) i'd be there. i love it when neil is treated like a real writer,
when he gets noticed outside of the fan ghetto. i know, being a new york
times bestseller should qualify as that, but it's not being mainstream
that's great so much as being...academic, scholarly, a Thinker, in with the
loud-checkered-suit circle, recognized as being in the same profession as
the people he venerates (keats, shakespeare-well he was a playwright, but
you get it). you know what i mean. yes i am being pretentious, but that's
the kind of recognition i'm looking for.

fiction operated." - Harlan Ellison.
Yes, he will be there.

Same here. <grins>
I'll prolly never get it...but hey, it's an option. I'm at least hoping one of
my stories (the book I'm trying to slog through currently) will at least be
deemed heretical or at least looked down upon by The Catholic Church. Hehe.

Heck, if worse come to worse, the moderator from the Neil
panel is an associate prof. at the local community college
(and it looks like she's collected an entirely too cool book
of essays called Blood Red: The Vampire as Metaphor in
Contemporary Culture -
http://www.upenn.edu/pennpress/book/toc/730.html ) - perhaps
I can just sit outside her office doorstep and give her
puppy eyes or something until she submits.
Right.

wow, i visit for the first time in Years and i'm a subject! yup, that's
my paper, let me clean it up a little and i'll post it if you'd like.
i don't think most people would have a problem posting their papers..
there are only five of us with purely neil papers, i think. it was a
really lovely conferance, neat to see academics talking about stuff
they loved. and it was in ft. lauderdale which was neat, although
very very cold.
miss sunshine, back to her dreary (not really) lifestyle

a little bit.. the paper was Originally going to be Libarary as blahblah
blah in Borges, Eco, and Gaiman until someone kindly reminded me that
the time limit was 20 pages. so the borges bits ended up being Neil-in-
a-tradition kind of things.. mostly the library of babel and the idea
of man as the imperfect librarian and the way that lucien isn't a man
(i don't mean that in a you-are-a-wuss sense, but in a you-are-a
-fantastic-creature sense) but someday, when i write my huge tome,
well, it'll be thick with borges.
