Who caught this on CBC's Newsworld? You missed an excellent
documentary. It was about the rise of MuchMusic's "head honcho" Denise
Donlan, but it was also a very detailed, intimate, behind the scenes
look of the inner-workings of MuchMusic. I basically grew-up watching
Denise Donlan from her early days with the New Music, then as a VJ on
Much. Without trying to undermine her importance, clout and position: I
found her to be very personable, a free-spirit and easy-going...there
still seems to be a bit of her "roadie days" in her. Someone who never
forgot where she came from, (..man, attending concerts with teens half
her age says it all..) someone who champions the struggling artists on
the fringe, as well as supporting Canadian talent. Running the show is
a business...but I really like the fact that she's willing to evolve
and move forward, eg. MuchMoreMusic and Much USA. I feel a little at
ease and "confident" that Mrs Donlan is running the ship rather than a
crusty old man in a tightly pressed grey suit. Denise Donlan is the
bestest.
