I just recently recieved a majority of the Bond movies, and have set
down to watch them again in order. Is there a list of things to look
for in the movies? (i.e. flaws, cut scenes, interesting tidbits, or
anything else that may make the experiance more enjoyable) Also, I
would like to know the origin of the name "James Bond."
Thanks.

Fleming got the name when he was writing from a book he owned.
James Bond was the author. I cant remember the name of the book.

I cut out and saved the obituary of THE James Bond from the New York Times, and
posted it here several months ago. I will recopy it if there is interest. It
tells of Fleming's taking the name and a little bit about the real-life JB.

Not really. It was a birdwatcher's field guide entitled "Birds Of The West
Indies". James Bond was an American ornithologist who died in Philadelphia
in, I believe, 1989.

The name of the book Flemming took it from was Birds of the West Indies, and it was written by
James Bond.

The name came from the book "Birds of the West Indies" which Ian Fleming
had at his home. He thought it was a perfect name for his character, so
he took it.

As for things to watch for, pick up "The Incredible World of 007" by
Lee Pfeiffer and Phil Lisa. Spy Guise sells it -- it's also VERY prevalent
nowadays in the performing arts sections of regular old bookstores like
B Daltons and Waldenbooks. The second edition was just published last
November. The book contains, besides write-ups of each movie, a blooper
list, cut scene list, list of scenes planned for one movie but scrapped and
used in later movies, list of foreign titles, and gobs of colorful photographs
of stills and posters and what not. No, I don't work for the publishing
company. :-) I've just found so much use and fun out of that book, and when
I watched the Bond movies all in order last summer, it came in very handy.
(I had the first edition then.)

As to the origin of the name James Bond. Ian Fleming, while writing
Casino Royale, needed to come up with a name. He apparently looked at
his bookshelf and saw the name James Bond on a book about birds. The
original James Bond was an ornothologist. Fleming was later able to meet
the real Bond and his wife. The real Bond used to make jokes to customs
agents about double checking his bags because he was in fact the real
James Bond.

The book was a guide to birds. Ian Fleming wanted a plain name and picked the
first one he found while browsing his bookcase.
