System of a Down- Chop Suey! (me and my sister CRACK UP when that video comes

City High- Caramel? I just like where Eve raps. Oh! And the chorus is really
catchy
Nsync- Two of Us. I'm not even ashamed to admit my love for this song. lol. If
it's a good song, it's a good song. Who cares if it's N Sync?
Nikka Costa- Some kind of Beautiful. This is the kinda song that makes you feel
good. If it's a nice day outside, you just wanna hear it over and over again.
Weezer's album-no song in particular- I've been listening to Cree's album

I put this one in and went crazy

Vanessa-Mae's entire 'Storm' CD. 'NSync's 'Celebrity,' especially
"Do Your Thing" or whatever the last track is called. And the
super-bootleg 'Gift of Screws' stuff from Lindsey Buckingham, mostly
"Shuffle Riff," "Steve's Riff," "Gift of Screws," "Deep Dense," and
"Down on Rodeo" (the street, not like "ride 'em cowboy").

Nothing particularly new, I'm not really happy with a lot of what's been on the
radio... a lot of "Shimmy" "Prison Song" and "Chop Suey" on the new System
album. I still listen to "Drops of Jupiter" like everyday, I can't get over how
much I like the beginning of that song.

okay this rant has nothing really do to with this post of yours, katie, it's
about the posts in general lately on afh. i just happened to pick this one to
respond about it to lol so don't take it personally.
but everyone complains about how the music on the radio is so crappy these
days, and how nothing good is ever played, and then people get pissed off when
their fave bands DO start getting mainstream radioplay, then they stop liking
the bands and call them "sell outs" because suddenly they're popular. on top
of that, people here always gloat about these bands they love so much, and talk
about how they want those bands to get more exposure, and how they want those
bands to be successful and for people to listen to them, and then they get all
possessive and bitchy when people start checking the bands out, just because
other bands recommend them (i.e. bands hanson recommend, etc). what difference
does it make WHY people listen to them? isn't it just cool that more people
are checking out these bands? i don't get it.
For me, it's hard to explain. I like having something special. It's like I'm
in on something really special. And then this band that I've loved all along
suddenly gets played on the radio 50 times a day. I don't like having two
million teenyboppers suddenly start liking a band I've been a fan of since
the beginning, just because they're suddenly getting airplay.
If you don't understand it now, you never will. I guess unless you've
actually felt it, you'll never understand it. Music is a really big thing in
my life. It means a lot to me. And I guess unless you feel the same way,
you're not going to understand.

>about how they want those bands to
I feel you on this too Jenn because I used to totally be like WTF... but in the
past few years I've been getting it more. I think people are wary of their
favorite bands going mainstream because once they become exposed to a bigger
audience and airplay, the record companies/execs start noticing and pretty soon
the band starts playing songs that will tailor to the public rather than
sticking to their roots. BUT on the other hand, bands will naturally experiment
with new types of music and many "originaL' fans will freak out and say that
they're just too popular. And plus it's just nice to know of a really awesome
band, it feels almost like you're in a secret society or something :) So
overall, I'm just saying that I see both sides to it
I know what you mean by feeling that you have something special, and
then all of these fans out of nowhere and start liking them, so you
hope that certain bands don't go mainstream. But I don't think that
all of the teenyboppers just start liking them because they get
airplay....most of them don't hear of these bands beforehand, some
people don't have the internet, and some don't spend a lot of time
researching bands like that. I know, because the only way I've heard
of artists like Nathan Brant, or the Juliana Theory, is from this
messageboard. And because I love new music, I do a little research.
:)
