Since about March or so my wife has been working from home. She hurt
her knee and also her back so it was just better that she work from
home. Now she's going into the office every day again. She hasn't
quite got the routine down. On Monday she left her cell phone at home.
Not that big a deal, except she uses her phone to remote start her car
to get the AC nice and cool before she gets in. The offshoot of that is
she emailed me before she left work asking if I would use her phone to
start her car. Talk about first world problems.

She left her phone at home again today.

If it happens again, set the phone's alarm to go off right before she's
supposed to leave.

It's legal here in Indiana too. But I'll tell this tale of a trip to
Orlando about 4 years ago. SWMBO LOVES to shop. I despise it (Opposites
attract) Anyway, I dropped her at the entrance to an outlet mall in
Orlando. It was a sweltering, humid day. I took the rental car over to
about the only shady spot in the parking lot. So, I put the seat back
and crank up the AC. I've plugged my iPod into the aux input and I've
got Sinatra on the radio. Time for a nap. And while I'm in dreamland I
suddenly hear a rapping on the window. This "Person" is standing there
and she's signing for me to lower the window. Okay-and now she launches
into a diatribe on how my idling there with the AC on was
single-handedly causing irreparable damage to the environment...Yada,
yada. I looked at her for a moment, took the window up and drove to the
far side of the lot. I figured if she was really dedicated she'd have no
problem following me there to continue our discussion. All I saw was her
giving me the finger in the rear-view.

What are your thoughts here. When we bought the new house SWMBO insisted
that since we were almost gutting the whole thing to begin with she
wanted All new appliances and with the exception of the 11 month old
electric range I acquiesced. Most of the others were at least 5 yrs old
or more. Anyway, recently I had to have warranty service on the
dishwasher. The pump had died. And the tech who came out was giving me
some grief about food scraps in it. Now- we don't leave whole lasagne in
pans or much else and make sure to clean the filter. But he was adamant
that you have SCRAPE every iota of food, even cooked-on remnants. Okay,
if I'm going to do that I might as well just hand wash everything. The
old dishwasher had no problem with the occasional morsel here and there.
But as the tech explained the amount of water used is now regulated???
Instead of the 3 gallons the old washer used it's now 1. And that 1
gallon isn't enough to really wash down all the little pieces of debris.
Then we got into washing machines and the same type of restrictions. AND
A LIGHT went off in my head. I had been perplexed that our old washing
machine would complete a load in about an hour. Now it's more like 2.
And the reason? 1 gallon of water versus 3. The dishwasher is in the
same category. You could run a load of dishes through the old one in 2
hours, Now it's 3 or more because you have to engage just about every
mode to get the dishes clean. I really wish that when some well meaning
fool came up with a new regulation like this it had to be advertised
they intended to do it. I'm telling you I'd have my congress-critter on
speed dial. And yes I know the number of these things is legion but I'd
at least like the chance to see how I'm gonna get screwed in advance.

I'm not surprised by what you found. Our dishwasher does an adequate
job, but it's now nine years old. I fear it's living on borrowed time.
I know they used to make dishwashers with basically a built in disposal,
of course, with only 1 gallon of water to do the job, they may no longer
do that.

Just made a cursory check at Home Depot. They do still make quite a
selection of dishwashers with built in disposers, in all price ranges.
None of the descriptions specify the amount of water used.

We have a home warranty through American Home Shield. The only problem
I have had with them is that they don't cover all our pool equipment,
just the pump and filters, none of the salt cell related equipment.
Other than that they've been good about repairing whatever has broken.
So far nothing has had to be replaced.

Maybe you can smuggle a dishwasher in from Canada, like some people do
with toilets.

When we re-did this house I brought over the two spare commodes I picked
up on a little sightseeing trip we took up north some years ago.
Unfortunately, there are three bathrooms and I erred and didn't take
the one from the upstairs bathroom. the existing one that is in my
youngest son's is one of the new style and wholly inadequate. I'm
thinking of getting one like those at work. Instead of a tank in a
conventional sense they have a sort of pressure tank. When one flushes
it uses this to "move things along." I've never seen one of these
stopped up.

I would strongly advise against a toilet with a pressure tank. There
have been a few instances in my area where the pressure tank failed
explosively. The best "one flush" solution is the American Standard
Champion toilet. I believe the current model is Champion 4. We had a
couple of these at the old house and never once had to use a plunger.
They are built with a larger passage through the trap, and the tank
holds twice as much water as it uses for each flush. This provides
greater pressure with each flush. They are quite amazing.

But aged voice notwithstanding, he has been recording some fine duets

I have just replaced all three toilets here, two with the Champion 4. My
plumber, a fine fellow who is a life long mate of the Best Beloved's,
assured me they'd do a better job than my old toilets using close to four
times the water.

He was right.

I can take him or leave him, mostly leave him. I never got to see him

San Francisco at the Circle Star Theater, an unlikely place for any

I helped install a dishwasher a year or two ago that had a one hour wash
setting. This article from Consumer Reports says that standard settings
can easily take 3+ hours, and it also says when dishwashers have a one
hour setting then that takes more water and power. Since a lot of
people run the dishwasher in the evening before bed or in the morning
before they leave for work, I'm not sure it's a bad thing having the
default mode be the energy/water saving mode, although I can see how it
could be a pain if it's the only setting on the model someone owns.

There is just a certain, nasal twang to some of the old C&W performers
voices that grates on my nerves. Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette come to
mind.

I don't care for rap or hip-hop and that is my loss. I wish I could appreciate rap but I feel nothing when I hear it.

I always wondered why the US had so many bathrooms, but never enough
toilets.

John could have asked how old she was, and then if she thought if John
killed her that would make up for the CO2 he was producing, making him
carbon neutral in that instance.

chrles, for humor purposes only, not to be considered a suggestion of a
real solution to the CO2 problem

They also pioneered the broken multi-tone? note which led via Whitney
Houston to Jim Carey's sister Maria's horrendous butchery of a tune.
