What is a "crossfire hurricane"?

Other than the title of a documentary about the Rolling Stones, that is.

A Google search turns up several less-than-authoritative meanings for
"crossfire hurricane."

I found the following definition for "crossfire hurricane":

As the eye of a hurricane passes over a fixed spot the wind direction
changes 180 degrees. Hence a crossfire.

Some RAF fighter pilots during WWII had only training roles, and never
fired a shot in anger.

A crossfire Hurricane pilot, however was not one of these.

There are some who think it is a mis-hearing of "class five" hurricane.
