A Nickname for Barry?

We all know that Frank Sinatra was also called "Old Blue Eyes, "The
Voice" and "Chairman Of The Board".
Bette Midler is called "The Devine Miss M".
Wayne Newton is "Mr. Las Vegas:
Neil Diamond is "The Jewish Elvis".
Michael Jackson was "The King Of Pop".
Some people called Barry "The Showman Of Our Generation" and cynics
called him "The King Of Schmaltz".
If you were to give Barry a nickname, what would it be?
I would call him "Mister Dynamite" from his song "No Other Love".

That's my least favorite lyric Barry has ever written.

It's an intriguing question, though.

I never liked "Showman of our Generation" ... Always made
Him sound like P.T. Barnum. But you're right ... Nobody's

Hopefully, Bette Midler doesn't still call Barry "my piano player"

this one. "The Hippest Man On The Planet." In fact that is what Barry

Thanks a lot, Janice.

Now I'm gonna have the soundtrack for that musical stuck in my head
all day.

I like that Brenda, as Barry will always be known for those big
ballads.
Another appropriate nickname would be "Mister Power Ballad".
I think Barry invented the "power ballad"- so this is a great title

Calling Wayne Newton Mr. Las Vegas is the biggest laugh of all. We saw
his show at the Hilton and it left a lot to be desired, especially
when Wayne kept forgetting the words to the songs. The theatre was
more than half empty! I think his popular days are over.

Wasn't Michael Jackson called the King of Pop? And James brown the
Godfather of Soul?

I don't think that fans named the other artists -- probably the media
or their publicists came up with it.

And, I truly dislike "Mellow Manilow". Truly -- no one can do "swing"
like Barry -- and his catalog of music is too big to be pigeonholed
into one category.

I saw wayne newton over memorial day weekend in atlantic city. There
was more empty tables than not and i could barely understand what he
was singing because the music was so loud. i actually felt bad for the
guy.

I've also heard folks who've worked for Barry in the past refer to him
as "The Chief."

But that's not what we're talking about.

He doesn't have one nickname that's popular with the mass media and
the public. I think it's kind of ironic that his fans, on the other
hand, do (unfortunately!).

That works, too. I mean, no matter what you think of his music, you
can't deny how talented he is. I would love to see him sit down and
just go to town on that piano.

It did come from that song, and it really does seem to be about Barry
too, at least it sure fits him. His people use "Shadow Man" now too,
it's even in the description of one of the scarves in the store on his
website: "Black, white, and green scarf featuring the Shadow Man image
on both ends and MANILOW across the middle." Honestly I don't think
Barry needs a nickname for the media to use, but "The showman of our
generation" is good enough in that regard, it pretty much says it
all. Just using "Manilow" is good too, it gives a feel of him being
larger than life to not even need his first name to be identified.

I heard rumors that there was a whole Manilow clan...a mother named
Edna, a couple of grandparents, and probably some great grandparents,
too. Of course, he could have just appeared in a cabbage patch one
day, and made up the name. :-p

I've heard him called Mr. Manilicious by some. lol I think I'd call him Mr. Diction because you can understand every word when he sings unlike some who sound all garbled....Bob Dylan comes to mind. JW

Funny. I had a dream about him last night too. Probably because I've been coming here so much!

In my dream, I did a Platinum and he was quizzing me on "Star Trek" and "Doctor Who".
