Not so many years ago (Less than 100) Mankind again asked a
question that had been on his mind from the very beginning of
our time-----Who are we, What is the Universe? What holds our
very lives together and provides the mystery of the life we live
and the magic we observe? These questions prompted the
scientists studying the Cosmos to construct a mechanical device
which might help answer these age-old questions. If successful
it might finally unite theories on gravity and other forces. An
elusive particle might even be called a 'God particle'. The
construction began as a large circular trench located in mid-
America, dug down to provide a circular larger and more powerful
'race track' for sub-atomic particles---it became the Fermi Lab
giant collider. Later, a similar one larger and more powerful
was built in Switzerland, the CERN or LHC (Large Hadron
Collider)
The irony of this device which may be the largest machine on
Earth, is that it was built near the center of this early Nation
which already was named Algonquin (Ali Kan Quayn) after a much
larger GOD particle which mystified the natives of America. It
gave off light and sparks! It was a material having intrinsic
mysterious properties and lay profusely on the ground near
Aurora, Illinois which was the home for the giant Collider. This
much more visible 'particle' was given the native name 'QUAY'
which described its manufacture with a 'channel' down the side.
It had become famous to Native historians and travelers with
much of the material crafted at nearby Kansas and New Mexico.
It was the flint arrowhead, Quay. It's important location became
known in early America as QUIVIRA (place of the sparking
arrowhead).
The expansive fields in Illinois (Iro No---colored prairie)
provided a rich source of crafted arrowheads as the large
particle collider was being built at Aurora.

Batman can't use a parachute, it would be like James Bond not

Now I feel a bit less ignorant, because it's more of a proper
noun that "just a word." But I guess that, somewhere in the world,
a sadistic crossword puzzle author might call for

I would try to read linguistic theory and would find myself
wondering instead if the lights were on in the bevatron up the

TITLE: SHIELDING CALCULATIONS FOR THE LONG PULSE
SPALLATION SOURCE FACILITY

Variance reduction via Geometry Splitting/Russian Roulette has
recently been added to LAHET and is now being tested in the
design of shielding for the Long Pulse Spallation Source
Facility. In addition, we demonstrate methods of visualizing
fluence based quantities such as equivalent dose and heating
throughout the target and shielding.
As a preliminary to this work, Geometry Splitting/Russian
Roulette has been added to the current LAHET code. Cell-wise
importances, as used in MCNP, have 2 been adapted for LAHET.
Separate importances can be implemented for muons, if desired.
Splitting/Roulette has long been present in LAHET for neutrons
written to the file which is passed to MCNP, controlled by the
user defined variable SWTM (neutrons with weight less than SWTM
are killed with probability (1-weight/SWTM), all others are kept
and given weight SWTM).
Geometry Splitting/Russian Roulette has been included in the LAHET monte
carlo
simulation code, and is now being tested on a variety of high
intensity accelerator applications.
The line-of-sight shielding model proposed by Moyer for the
Bevatron upgrade estimates dose equivalent per interacting
proton, H, from hadrons at a point outside the shielding as:

Variance reduction via Geometry Splitting/Russian Roulette has
recently been added to LAHET and is now being tested in the
design of shielding for the Long Pulse Spallation Source
Facility. In addition, we demonstrate methods of visualizing
fluence based quantities such as equivalent dose and heating
throughout the target and shielding.
As a preliminary to this work, Geometry Splitting/Russian
Roulette has been added to the current LAHET code. Cell-wise
importances, as used in MCNP, have 2 been adapted for LAHET.
Separate importances can be implemented for muons, if desired.
Splitting/Roulette has long been present in LAHET for neutrons
written to the file which is passed to MCNP, controlled by the
user defined variable SWTM (neutrons with weight less than SWTM
are killed with probability (1-weight/SWTM), all others are kept
and given weight SWTM).
Geometry Splitting/Russian Roulette has been included in the LAHET monte
carlo
simulation code, and is now being tested on a variety of high
intensity accelerator applications.
The line-of-sight shielding model proposed by Moyer for the
Bevatron upgrade estimates dose equivalent per interacting
proton, H, from hadrons at a point outside the shielding as:

collect the "debt" owed by Batman, he battles Azrael, who is
