1. artist - song abc
2. Track 2
3. Track 3
4. Track 4
5. ...

9. artist -song uvw
10. artist - song xyz
It looks like CDDB lookup failed. When I click on "Track 2" (or one of
the other unnamed tracks), my screen goes black and Windows reboots.
Same happens when I click on the "Next" button. However, if I let a song
finish, it jumps to the unnamed track and suddenly shows the artist/song
info. So apparently the CDDB /is/ there.
This is the first time I've seen this in Winamp, but it's enough to make
me look for alternatives. All I want is to play audio CD, WAV, MP3
(playlists of course), an equalizer and play a stream, more specific
Limbik Frequencies - Radio Elektro[u]nique.
Don't know about Songbird; it's about the same size as Winamp /and/ it's
still beta...

Go get an old Winamp. Version 2.5e is nice.

What about security issues? And... isn't access to CDDB blocked in those
old versions?

Looks like a keeper for me. It plays Limbik Frequencies (which can be
bookmarked) and with TweakUI I've configured it so it will start up and
play audio CDs. Little problem with CDDB recognizing one of Dave Gahan's
CDs, but it seems to work with other audio CDs.
It plays MP3, WAV, PLS and M3U like I wanted, but it would be nice if it
could play MIDI as well. It says something about bassmidi.dll (which is
in the plugins folder) and .MID is checked in Associations, but opening
a MIDI file doesn't produce any sound.

Security issues? It's a player...

It may not have CDDB lookup but that certainly isn't blocked. Frankly, I
have no idea if it can utilize CDDB (or any other) as that isn't something
of importance to me. Mostly, I play MP3s; on the rare (very) occasions when
I've played a CD I already knew what was on the CD via its label so had no
need for CDDB. Perhaps that's why you asked about "security issues" - my
Winamp doesn't even know I have access to the INet, none of its business.

They seem to be fixed in 2.x

Well, it /is/ for me...

Does that old version of Winamp have it's own (old) audio codecs or will
it make use of the system's codecs?
To do what? Decode? Yes, it has decoders. Mine has "in" dlls for cdda,
flac, line, lpac, midi, mod, two for MP3 (I added one from FhG, prefer it to
Nullsoft's), wave, wma. I may have added some of them myself, don't
recall.
One can get decoders/encoders for just about anything as plug-ins at Winamp.

You mean the ACM things? Not as far as I know.

Does it has anything to do with
That one shows an older version (v2.09) and it says something about
*buying* it? :-?

If you go here and download 4 MB SoundFont Bank file , unzip and copy
the CT4MGM.SF2 into the plugin folder ( same folder that has
Bassmidi.dll ) you'll here the midi files
Hope you see this.

I see it. You neglected to provide a link, but it got me on my way. I
googled it, found it at
<http://pages.sbcglobal.net/joethedude/4mb_soundfont.zip> and changed
the settings. It's working well now. Thank you!
