Me either although several around here are opening up with limited and
distance seating. I'm still wary and will wait a big longer. I make
some pretty good meals myself.

I'm thinking the chances are very good that there
is going to be a second spike in COVID-19 especially
since I heard about all the fools crowding together
at the beaches and other public places.

SARS-CoV-2 virus still seems to have a R rate
of about 3 or 4 while it needs a R of less than 1
to end up not increasing the number of cases.

And, we are nowhere's near any so called herd
immunity. Vaccines seem to be on schedule to be
available late this year.

In the meanwhile, I will remain a hermit as much as
I can.

I make my own meals. I get my meds in the
mail from the VA. I clean my own log cabin.
I pay my bills and taxes on time. I engage in
forest husbandry almost every day.

I don't need any stinking senior care. So, you
need to quit projecting.

i enjoyed occasionally paying someone else for their time and effort to cook something for me that saved me from hours of drudgery like cooking food from scratch and washing pots, pans, and dishes. nothing better to do now. there's still delivery and pick up, but i can't be bothered paying extra for delivery or for gas to go wait forever to pick something up.

A rare event, this: I actually completely agree with you.
Myself being in the 'at risk' group, I'll be doing the same.

It seems that the Holy Grail of the so-called 'herd immunity'
that they're aiming for may well be transient. I think we're
all in this for the long haul, perhaps even permanently.

One thing is certain: for anybody who is engaged with society,
the world will be a very different place when we come out of
lockdown. The economic damage will ensure that, let alone the
effect of continuing 'social distancing'. It's almost enough to
make a hermit's lifestyle an attractive prospect. At least then
I'd be able to go outside without having to wear a bloody mask.

My isolation will be 12 weeks this Friday, in which time, during
official lockdown, I've been out of the front door exactly ~twice~.

If anybody wants to find me, I'll be halfway up the wall.

There might be a second wave especially if those people who have been
crowding together all get sick. We had a ton of outsiders visiting
Yachats this past weekend. Two from Utah and one all the way from
FLorida. I guess people are bored but I hope they keep the virus to
themselves.

I actually went out to eat yesterday at a restaurant. It was less than
half full as they had moved out many tables. I had seafood. I don't
cook it very well myself and I was just hankering for some.

I've been out of the house about once a week. I'm VERY careful however.

Yes. For the young ones, the illness may be nasty but
they'll likely come through it. Who gives a tuppenny
toss about ~old people~ anyway?

Mrs Sn!pe goes for a one hour walk every day, carefully avoiding
the idiots who don't bother with keeping their distance. She goes
food shopping once a week; otherwise, it's only pharmacy visits.

One good thing: Mrs S has a regular blood test so, because I'm
at risk, a phlebotomist visits to take her blood. It's done in our
front garden, for distancing reasons. That way she doesn't have to
go near the hospital or the doctor's surgery. The trouble with
those places is that they're full of sick people.

>You mean "the flu" will be back?

SARS-CoV-2 is not the flu. It is here to stay
like the flu, though, IMO, unless a very effective
vaccine is forthcoming. There are flu shots
every year that many take and the seasonal
flu still kills a lot of people. But, the flu seems
to be more of a threat to all ages whereas
the biggest number of COVID-19 deaths come
from the "old folks" demographics like Yours
Truly. Even though I have no co-morbidities and
am in excellent overall health, I'm still not taking
any chances especially since, prior to COVID-19
my lifestyle was much the same as it is now.

I never enjoyed crowds and crowded places.
There are always too many loud-mouth assholes
trying to call attention to themselves and too
many fools queuing up on the other side trying
to start trouble.

Then there are the maniacs who plot to shoot up
the whole place.

Fuck all that.

So ~that's~ why you spend so much time on Usenet!
I suppose that at least it isn't very crowded these days.

It's nice to get outside now and then.

That sounds like a good plan. I stay far away from those places as well.

Then move back to Canada where you can stay
farther away then ever because Canada has such
a sucky single-payer system where it takes months
or years to even get an appointment.
