All,

Sorry if this isn't an appropriate question for this newsgroup (please
let me know what the correct one is if so) but I've seen mention of
three possible DW books due out soon and have been unable to find much
additional information on either the web or through my book dealer as to
when they might actually appear in stores.

"Thud" seems due out (to quote the chap in the book store) "sometime in
Oct or Nov, maybe December, definitely by some time next year", but
there were two others, one of which I thought was part of the
"Ackin/WeeFreeMen" series that should have become available already yet
remains unavailable, at least in the merkin parts.

Does any have any additional details? Its not that I need to read these
books, I'm just buying them for a friend. Honest. I can stop rereading
them any time I want.

Thanks,

Robb

First October, actually, along with "Where's my Cow". But some
bookstores are a bit slow.
For that kind of information, amazon.com (or amazon.co.uk) is
usually a good place to check.

The only info I have on those is what Pterry said about them
in The Art of Discworld:
"'Wintersmith' and 'I Shall Wear Midnight' may or may not get
written, and may or may not have those titles."
Both are supposed to belong to the Wee Free Men series (if
they happen).

Other stuff in "The Art of Discworld"
(about Rincewind): The trouble is that people who don't want
to be heroes tend to make the best ones, so - sigh - there
is at least one future outing lined up for him.

The comments about Carrot and Angua also sounded very much
like there was something about them in the works, but
nothing definite.

If I remember correctly Terry PRatchett said that the times
of two books per year was over, because it's too much strain
for his health, which might explain that feeling of "um,
shouldn't there be a new Discworld book available around now?"
Let's face it, we've been terribly spoiled ;)

I think they are more definite that, recalling what PTerry said at the
Con. 'Wintersmith' is, I think, fairly well advanced; he read us the
first chapter at the Con. However, the publication date may not be on
the same schedule as previously (I.e. not necessarily early spring).
'I Shall Wear Midnight' is planned but not started. Depending upon how
it turns out, there might be a fifth Tiffany Aching book - or he may
have said all he has to say in the fourth. Titles are subject to change
without notice.

Terry did say at the Convention last year (and anyone with a better memory,
please feel free to correct me) that he planned at least 2 more Tiffany
Aching books. The next one will be "Wintersmith" which Terry was writing at
the time of the Convention. (It may be with the publishers now) followed by
"I Shall Wear Midnight"

At the Convention, Terry read the first chapter of "Wintersmith" It was
brilliant. There was a wonderful part where Tiffany takes a gift to Granny
Weatherwax.
