WOW!!! My 1997 Nissan Maxima wouldn't start the other day... nothing
happend when I turned the key except for an occasional interior light
turning on and then dimming out. This happend on every 3rd try to
start the car. So, I took the battery to get tested.... it was fine.
Then, I decided to have it towed to a Nissan Dealer and they just
called me with the bad news. They are saying it's a bad "wiring
harness" that is very corroded. The guy from the shop said that it
must have had battery acid spilled on it or something. The want to
charge me $2000 for a new wiring harness and labor costs!!!! Any help
or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Well, a bad connection will cause an excessive voltage "drop" to the
affected load. With high current loads such as the starter, good connections
are vital because of this phenomenon. What I can't understand is the price!!
You need to pinpoint the alleged poor connection and make the repair. Sounds
like they want to replace the entire vehicle wiring! You should start at the
power source, the battery. Make sure the post connections are clean and
tight. Next, it's down to the starter to check same. Concentrate on the very
heavy gauge (thick) battery cables involved. These are the wires that carry
the high currents. $2000 has the word "gouge" written all over it...

hmmm ,

does the word illegal mean anything to you Professor?

maybe you need to read Part 95 ,subpart D for the rules pertaining to CB
Radio Service
on the total amount of power a CB transmitter emit.

I wonder if Riley Hollingsworth is interested in your sale of illegal RF
amplifiers for CB use.

NissTech...(Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator)

Rule 10 - Power Output

{A} Your CB station transmitter power output must not exceed the following
values under any conditions: AM [Amplitude Modulation] - 4 watts carrier
power [CP] SSB [Single Side-Band] - 12 watts peak envelope power [PEP]

RULE 11 - Linear Amplifiers

{A} You may not attach the following items (power amplifiers) to your
type-accepted CB transmitter in any way:
[1] External radio frequency [RF] power amplifiers, also called linear
amplifiers, or linears;
or
[2] Any other devices which, when used with a radio transmitter as a
signal source, are capable of amplifying the signal.
{B} There are no exceptions to this rule and use of a power amplifier
voids your authority to operate the station.
{C} The FCC will presume you have used a linear or other external [RF]
power amplifier if-
[1] It is in your possession or on your premises;
and
[2] There is OTHER EVIDENCE that you have operated your CB station with
more power than allowed by CB Rule 10.
{D} Paragraph C above in this section does not apply if you hold a
license in another radio service (HAM, etc.) which allows you to operate
an external RF power amplifier

Well, after reading your posts... I take back what I said about "you should
stick to Nissans".
You don't seem to know much about them either...
Just what is your area of expertise? Badgering?

Take the harness apart and make your own or fix it ;)

Soldering Iron
Wires
Replace the bad part of the harness....

Should be cheaper than 2000$

They don't fix anything anymore: tech., mech., Eng., ... just prefer to
replace: less work, more profit (labour + parts) ...
personnaly, I would fix it or pay a friend to do so.

You can also go to JoeBlow mechanic (look for one that specialise in
electronic and japs) and ask him to fix it.
For once a nobody mechanician could be better than the dealer...

All this twat about RF Linear Amps.
I've seen the .pdf and nowhere does it say its for CB.
CB in USA is 27 MHz whereas it is built for 28 MHZ which is the "10 Meter"
Band which is Ham Radio or Amateur Radio. Max power output 1000 watts.
Which has a wiring harness!!!

And I suppose you believe that the world is flat?

These are ILLEGAL (to sell in the US) CB Amplifiers. You can call a chicken a
cow but it's still a chicken!

If they WERE (which they aren't) 10 meter amplifiers they would also be
illegal to sell.

You obviously know nothing about the history of illegal CB operation and
equipment and of people like "professor" who import or build illegal equipment
to sell to those who want to operate illegal equipment in the CB band.
They'll ALWAYS claim they are for the 10 meter amateur band but even then
they'd be illegal. Unfortunately the "CB" operators will likely attempt to
use them outside of the legal CB channels and often into the amateur 10 meter
band.

Do some research on the FCC regulations for amplifiers and you'll have a basis
for passing judgment. These may NOT be illegal in some countries but they ARE
definitely illegal in the US and unfortunately there are a lot of people like
"professor" who feed the illegal operators these illegal amplifiers.

yeh yeh yeh
If you look at the "brochure" it says its for 10 meters.
10 meters isn't CB.
CB is 11 meters.
Just like comparing luxury cars to compacts- they are all cars some people
can't tell the difference

Thats all Im saying.
Lin amps are illegal for CB the world over, but its not for cb.
It says cw on the pdf which in layman terms is Morse Code (Continuous Wave)
But I guess you wouldnt know or care.
