Is there a specific part that can be attacked to the actuator in the trunk
to install keyless entry into a '89 300E? I just don't want a solenoid
putting 50,000 ft/lbs of torque on that little diaphram in the trunk.
Basically just looking for the 'right' actuator for a do it myself keyless
entry job. Also, does actuation of the trunk lock without the use of a key
engage the factory car alarm? I also want to install, in the same system,
a remote starter, this is purely for the wife during those cold days. Am I
getting myself in too deep? I am mechanically and electrically inclined.

It should, cause the contact switch is part of the vacuum actuator not the lock
itself, therefore you should be fine

I'm not sure if you're asking us for a after market keyless entry system, or if
you just wanna know if an electric universal actuator can be attached to act in
the motion direction of the vacuum actuator?.
I suggest a an after market alarm system that has all those features.
I got a customer with a 1987 300E who had one installed shortly after he
purchased the back in 1990, his keyless entry and remote starter has been
working fine, he uses it everytime he comes by to show it off.

Greg, the part you require does not exist. The easiest way to add
keyless is to remove one of front door skins and install an electric
door lock actuator. Once excited, the actuator will either raise or
lower the door lock plunger, which in turn will lock or unlock the other
doors/gas door/trunk via the MB's vacuum system. This typically will
not arm the MB's factory alarm.

A remote start in a w124 e class is some what more difficult to achieve
than in most cars. If this is your first time, I would recommend that
you not deal with it yourself. It is a lot of work and should take a
competent alarm installer nearly a full work day to complete.

If you only want to do a keyless system, you should be able to purchase
all necessary parts (the keyless unit and an actuator) for $100 or
less. This is an easy job, as long as you feel comfortable removing a
few interior panels. An install-it-yourself remote starter should run
$150-200. These systems usually come mated with an alarm which will
require a bit more work to install. Both of these off the shelf units
tend to be inferior to the dealer install only models, though.

It would cost you $350-450 to have a professional installer do the job
for you, which is what I recommend. At this price point, check the
Viper 550ESP, which is the unit I have in my own w124 e class. It runs
about $400 and is a remote start/keyless entry/alarm.

There is an easy access to the lock actuator from the trunk lock. Just
remove the plastic panel that runs along the seal, and presto, the is the
trunk lock actuator. I just don't want some super fast relay yanking on
the mechanism.

Yes, I am aware. But aftermarket keyless systems use electric
actuators, not vacuum actuators. I stand by my original post...
