I met a true atheist at my work today. The company sent around a note
for people to sign a Christmas card fro Management. He refuse, because
he doesn't believe in God or any religion.

This show how Phony the majority of Atheist are. This Guy is a true
atheist. When they changed the name to seasonal Card, he called it
BS. It is Christmas card in disguise.

Im always amused this time of the year when 'atheists' will spend
millions of dollars collectively to buy Christmas gifts TO CELBRATE
CHRISTMAS in addition to humming Christmas Carols and wishing others
a Merry Christmas. Your coworker is NOT a true atheist because the
amount of faith required to believe that dirt, rocks, and planets
gave us our highly complex personality traits including abstract
thinking and reasoning.... is impossibily unattainable. In fact,
they have to borrow from a Theist Worldview for reasoning their
position since there is no reason in a strictly material only
Universe. I think someone should give your coworker a wrapped up
Pet Rock for Christmas that says on it :' Lets have a
conversation !' . (and 'atheists' think Theists are absurd ,
crazy, and just need a crutch) ..

Are you really this stupid? (Okay, that was rhetorical. We all KNOW
you're just that stupid.) You really think buying presents for people
means we're celebrating Christmas? I'm sure the Jews and Muslims will
be surprised to hear that.

I hate to break it to you, Dave, but we're celebrating the original,
true, holiday that comes this time every year: Yuletide, or the
Winter Solstice. The Pagans invented it and the Christians stole it.
"Cuz, really, where does the Bible mention evergreen trees,
decorations, tinsel, lights, holly-and-ivy, or a mid-winter feast?

Also stolen from earlier madrigals and folk songs. ("Greensleeves"
anyone?) Geez, is there ANYTHING original about the Christian
holiday?

Sorry, it's "Happy holidays" for me. I try to be inclusive.

Off on quite a tangent, there, aren't ya Davey. I'd agree that
refusing to sign a Christmas card for someone who believes in that
nonsense doesn't make one a "true atheist." More a crank or
curmudgeon or asshat.

Why? I'm an atheist, and I love Christmas. I even like the religious
carols; "The Little Drummer Boy" is my favorite. My wife and I own a
lovely nativity scene, given to us by her mother, and it's my job to
set it up each year, which I enjoy doing.

Contrary to what you believe, atheists do not hate "little baby Jesus"
any more than we hate Santa Claus or Frosty the Snowman. Christmas is
a wonderful holiday with many rich cultural traditions. The stories
of Santa, Rudolf, Frosty, the Grinch, the Griswolds, and Jesus are all
apart of those traditions. The story of the birth of Jesus is just
one part of the holiday, and not the oldest one for that matter.

I don't let the fact that some people believe the story of Jesus is
actually true prevent it from being a part of my holiday. If some nut-
jobs started worshipping Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph, I wouldn't
view them any differently, either.

Celebration of the winter Solstice preceded celebration of xmas by many centuries, and
still deserves celebration.

> Your coworker is NOT a true atheist

They your are not a true theist either.

Most atheists ( the non-theist sort) merely lack faith in those unprovable claims about
gods existing.

Even this old hard-core holiday hater likes the lights. We've hung the
lights up *inside* the house (why should the neighbors enjoy them
instead of ourselves?), gives it kind of a spooky glow when you pass
by it on the street. We've even got a tree, but it's decorated with
Halloween stuff (her fave holiday, we just leave it up all the way
through).

Y'all got me on the music, though. Can't stand the traditional stuff.
Maybe that's what comes from a Christian childhood?

I think the decent thing to do IS sign it, with some
secular notation - there's always room on those cards.

I mean other humans have their faults believing in unsubstantiated
nonsense - you still have to live with them and I see there is no
reason to be mean (unless there's some other extenuating circumstances

I can't complain about gold. Silver or palladium may be the better

Because theocrats outnumber everybody else and they see nothing wrong
with forcing everybody else to spread their message.

In all seriousness, the Founding Fathers rebelled against the British
Monarchy, which was supposedly established by divinity. They wanted to
hedge their bets by stating that they weren't rebelling against their
deity. Unfortunately this theocratic nonsense has been handed down
through the generations.

There ya go - an everything three. Don't forget to add a few fake Easter
bunnies and a Thanksgiving turkey. :-D

Henry..around "Easter", we plant. And around "Thanksgiving", we
harvest. The stuff from our garden tastes a lot better than anything
we find at the grocer. Only problem is that our garden is too small to
give us enough to get through the winter without visiting the
supermarket. Grr.

Bummer. Perhaps you can ask others in your neighborhood if you can use part
of their gardens and you'll give them part of the harvest. You can freeze

where we live willing to let others use part or most of their unused back

Being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by
the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates
only
to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. The law of
the
land and God's law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates
(suppressives),
even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship."
(Watchtower, Nov 15, 1952 p703)

In other words, if laws did not forbid it, Jehovah's Witnesses would eagerly
kill those who disagree with them.

What bias opinion would that be, Hotdog? You support Jehovah's Witnesses, yet
you say you believe in evolution. Either you are a Jehovah's Witness or you are
a phony Jehovah's Witness. Anyone who knows anything at all about Jehovah's
Witnesses know that it's all or nothing. Either you're in or you're out. Which

Since you like to use the word 'clueless' a lot, why don't you learn what it
means? The Jehovah's Witness manifesto is crystal clear about rejecting the
theory of evolution. According to Jehovah's Witnesses, scientists who promote
evolution are being misled by Satan, whom they believe is a real person.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that animals and plants can change but only within
their 'kind.' The word 'kind,' as they use it, has no scientific meaning.
According to Jehovah's Witnesses, God created each 'kind.' Within each 'kind,'
animals and plants can change their appearance but they cannot evolve into
another 'kind.' According to Jehovah's Witnesses there was no life on earth
before God created life some thousands of years ago.

The Jehovah's Witness literature will say they respect science and scientists,
but they preach otherwise from the podium in all their Kingdom Hall meetings and
public conventions where they relentlessly ridicule science and scientists.

I have plenty of clues. You write apologetically for the Jehovah's Witnesses
but you don't adhere to their strict, unwavering beliefs. You can't be half a
Jehovah's Witness. Either you are or you aren't. If you're going to pimp for
the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, you need to be clear where you stand.

You don't need to welcome me to the majority, with respect to
Christmas, at least, because I've always been a part of it. It's your
assertion that I'm not an atheist that I take issue with.

When I asked you what definition of "atheist" you were using, you
posted a link to a cite that clearly states that non-Christians
celebrate Christmas, so that link was no help.

I'll ask you again: What definition of "atheist" are you using that
leads you to believe I'm not one?

Joseki,

I was an athiest until God's existence was proven to me to my
satisfaction about 35 years ago. Atheists are just uneducated people
with educations. They mistake facts for truth. They only know what
they are taught; so if you ain't teaching them and you ain't
convincing them, whose fault is that? An atheist isn't going to buy a
story from someone that knows less than him. And all that accept it
by faith crap - which is not Scriptural by the way - won't sell the
book.

If you are a Christian, it is your job to recocnile atheists to God by
using the ministry of reconcilation and word of reconciliation God
gave you to reconcile them with. The word says that they will know
you are a disciple by the love you manifest towards one another -
disciple to disciple - if they don't see that and they don't hear
rightly divided word of truth - why should they change their minds.
God doesn't ask them to; we should we?

I haven't been on the groups for a couple years; but was for many
years and some of the best people I conversed with were atheists and
skeptics that showed more "love" than most of the Christians that
posted during that time. Even some of the nutty atheists were okay
once you got to know them. Even some of the Wiccas. God didn't call
us to hate or envy or manifest intolerance towards those that are
outside the household.

Atheists act the way they do because they have the freedom to do so in
this country. If they lived in a village in a Muslim country they
might not be able to freely practice their religion. Most atheists
are agnostics. Some are unofficial members of the religion of
atheism; the ones that protest.

What I am trying to convey is this; God gave them free will from our
point of view and from their point of view they and society gives them
free will and the right to exercise it.

If you believe in God; then believe that God is able to save whom He
wants to save.

I remember an atheist that used to post to this group a few years ago
that was sick for a while before he died. We conversed by email up to
the time he died and he never "got saved". He was a gentleman towards
me and a good man from my perspective. I secretly hoped that he had
been saved as a child or that he converted before he passed; but I did
not try to force my beliefs down his gullet. He deserved to be
treated with dignity and that's what I communicated to him. He knew
where I stood and I knew where he stood.

Here's God's standard. Christians should live up to it. Atheists
don't have too.

Joh 13:35 KJV
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love
one to another.

Take Care

How was it proven to you? If it was proven to YOU, how come no one bothered

THERE YOU GO! It was a Christian in these groups who threatened to kill my
pets, have my spouse beat up, our children's lives destroyed, myself shot
and splattered all over some highway. Yes, he is a devout Jehovah's Witness
and considers himself a Christian. If this is what Christianly is all
about - who but other Christian psychopaths need it?

Which God's standards? There are at least 10,000 known Gods and you must

As I recall old Bible Babble Bob has been asked many time before for this
proof and all he did was go on and on and never produced one shred of
evidence. Not one iota of evidence for his particular God. My belief is he
never was an atheist. He bought the bible babble a long time before he
reached adulthood.

Ips-Switch,

I see you are still suffering memory difficulties. Ole BB doesn't try
to prove the existence of God to atheists. It's not because atheists
who practice the religion of atheism lack the mental capacity to
comprehend empirical evidence. It's because BB respects their right
to believe what they wish to believe.

I don't use the standard cast pearls before swine line that fundies
use incorrectly because I don't consider atheists to be swine's; or
even mentally impaired. I don't waste my time writing what I need to
live in front of atheists to prove the existence of God.

That your belief is that I never was an atheist is one of those
logical fallacies that those who practice the religion of atheism are
so famous for. Since you made the claim, please provide empirical
evidence to prove your belief. My dad was an atheist and I was an
atheist. There is no logical reason for me to prove the statement
especially since I was an atheist when atheists were real men and not
the whining effeminates that many of them have become. I was what I
was and am what I am and then and now I do not suffer from delusions
of grandour as some apaprently do.

Be a good boy and pull your litte red wagon around the block a few
times. The exercise will do your mind and body good. Bring big toys
when you want to play with big boys.:)

What proof, that atheists are just uneducated people with educations?
I can't get atheists to fit into my computer to post them on Usenet.
What I wrote was not insults; unless perhaps a reader might suffer
from emotional problems and feelings of inadequacy. I was speaking to
a person that apparently thought himself to be a Christian and
superior to atheists about proper behavior of Christians.

What kind of love? There are different kinds, you know. I was not

that a father would have for his child or a friend for a friend.

I wasn't talking to atheists. I was talking to a "Christian" who is
supposed to think and behave according to standards that he has
subjected himself to. Did you notice the "if, then" statement I used?
Do you know what that means? If you don't, then find an adult atheist
that can explain it to you. Out of respect for your beliefs I would
not refer you to a Christian to gain the knowledge.

Sheesh! What's happened to the quality of atheists posting to Usenet?
There used to be some pretty smart one's. What happened to them? Did
they all convert? I think not.

Your evasion is noted. I just wish you would keep your 'private matter'
claims out of alt.atheism.

Mutant frogs are known to exist. A simple Google search will turn up
evidence of their existence. So far, none of the thousands of man's gods
can be shown by evidence to exist.

BB brain is back!

For those of you nat familar with him, here is his idea of science.

Bible Bob says,
" A theory is a guess, speculation, abstract thought, a guess based on
some facts; but then facts are not truth so it is all about theory."

and

" Of course I understand the scientific method (the true one, not the
false one made up by money grubbing deceivers who stole and corrupted
the words "the scientific method." Apparently you have been misled by
them so I will try to make it easy for you to understand.

Trial and error; screw up till ya get it right. By wrong until you
get it right. Develop theories and make wild guesses and try them
out until you get one out of ten thousand right and are able to repeat
the process."

BB apparently "larned" scienc from 50's sci-fi.

See! :-))) No memory problems here. You always have some excuse why you
can't provide the proof you claim you have. LOL! ;-) You wouldn't have to
show proof to a believer if you haven't noticed.

Ever hear of mid posting? I am not convinced that you would or could

evidence or proof of anything except your dishonesty.
