Hi,

According to news reports, Google is about to cut a deal with Verizon
that would end the Internet as we know it by allowing giant
corporations to control what websites are load quickly and easily on
the Internet and dump everyone else onto an Internet slow lane.

I signed a petition urging Google to kill the deal with Verizon. Can
you join me at the link below?

Thanks!

Net neutrality is at great risk regardless.

Aren't you worried about how you will project the god rattling around
in your skull in order to spew your vapid hatred?

And BTW, this deal was not only "in the works" but it would have gone
through, were it not for the publicity and backlash that occurred.
They backed off late yesterday. You should get your facts straight
before spewing your hate-filled drivel.

The FCC was set to let the industry define how Internet service will
be sold to users. This corporate control of government matters must
end. This is a wake-up call to people who advocate letting
corporations monitor themselves and that no regulations are
necessary. The fight for net neutrality isn't over. They'll come up
with more subtle ways to sneak it past us.

Next up, cloned direct-access portals, some specialising in certain
interests, some balancing content to demand, like TV stations.

Then portal-2-portal linkups and private TOR2 networks.

Then a new Google-free internet. (AOL2? Eeuw!)

Then Google-2

Then...

Then somebody asks themselves "Why am I paying for adverts?"

Internet dies and returns to ARPANET\Skynet status. Gets bored.

In article <538b9113-4c4f-4a55...@x21g2000yqa.googlegroups.com>,

There are no links to those news reports at pol.moveon.org, and my
attempts to find one of those news reports that actually explains
the deal and the nature of the threat it poses have so far failed.

Instead I find stuff like this:

"Google and Verizon have come to an agreement on how network
operators can manage Web traffic ..."

"It's unclear how the deal will affect ..."

"... the rumored agreement ..."

"Google and Verizon's agreement could ..."

"And Verizon could offer ..."

"But some analysts speculate ..."

"Their actions could set a course ..."

"Google and Verizon ... are nearing an agreement that could ..."

"The charges could be paid ..."

"The agreement could eventually lead to ..."

"Such an agreement could overthrow a once-sacred tenet ..."

"... could ..."

"... could ..."

"... could ..."

I see only rumour and speculation; lots and lots of "could"
but no "will". Is there anything being said about this deal
anywhere that is distinguishable from FUD?

All I can deduce is that somebody unknown wants to stop the deal
for unknown reasons, and knows how to use vague insinuations to
trigger a stampede of knee-jerk opposition.

WTF?

When we say that something could happen, it means we don't know
that it won't. For example, when newspapers report that a newly
discovered asteroid could hit Earth, it means scientists don't
know its location and velocity precisely enough to say whether
or not it will. "Could" is about ignorance. "Will" and "would"
are about knowledge.

In the WaPo and NYT articles I read, "could" was all that was being
said about any scary consequences of the Google-Verizon deal.

It's a mistake to think that the good guys, say network neutrality
activists, are not susceptible to rumour panics.

Hmm. You said no deal was in the works. You only keep showing how
your hate is eating your brain. This is the crack in the wall that
will result in the complete loss of net neutrality. On that day, I
hope you think back on how courteous you were to the people who tried
to raise awareness about it.

Liar. It's still quoted up above, retard. If you're going to lie

actually said. What I said was 100% correct.
