Advantages in installing Debian

Hey guys!

Since I got one of my HDs corrupted, before buying another one and start filling up with stuff, I would like to know about the Debian installation that can be done using Alt-F. What will be the advantage for that?

I use DNS-323 to store video files (and watch on my TV, and use Transmission to download movies; is there anything else on Debian that I can enjoy?
