I had no issues on any of my boxes with USB disks/pens and one hub.

Have you tried other USB pens/disks? How many disks do you have? Tried without a hub? replug the hub/disk/pen after powerup? Please recheck.

Upgraded all packages? including kernel-modules and kernel-modules-armv5? (shouldn't be needed, but there has been changes in kernel-modules and there is a new kernel-modules-armv5. On a fresh install (I mean, no Alt-F folder) I had no issues on a 325 with a usb hub and one usb pen (tested it just now), but if you had upgraded kernel-modules while on RC4.1... hmmm, no, no kernel-modules upgrade has been released for RC4.1 -- writing for myself, for future reference :-(

Please *attach* /var/log/hot.log and hot_aux.log  as well as the system log (logread) after plugging (or use System->Utilities->View Logs

João,

I've got the same issue on DNS-323, looks like RC5 doesn't work with the particular disk.

You can find logs for RC4.1, RC5 and RC5 without hub on https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwmgwsMIkgrKMjYtWUxfVXkyU0E

I checked different configurations, with and without hub, but it worked in RC4.1 and doesn't work in RC5

PS. Other usb disks working without problems.

The logs from RC5 shows that one sdc disk (named 'stick')  was detected, checked and mounted (and an Alt-F folder was even found there), so I don't know what the problem is.
From the 323-RC5 system log:

stick is usb flash stick for Alt-F only which is connected to the same usb hub.
you can find stick (sdd) in RC4.1 also, I didn't change configuration before update, I have an issue on RC5 with Seagate usb disk (it's sdc in RC4.1).

I can reproduce issue on DNS-323 and DNS-325, what else I can check?

Thank you.

I googled a bit, and found info about issues with Seagate disks and 3.15+ kernel

Unfortunately my poor Linux knowledge doesn't allow me to understand details.
I tried suggestion from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1441510#p1441510
in different form echo -n quirks=0bc2:2312:u | tee /sys/module/usb_storage/parameters/quirks, but without success

RC5 uses 3.18.28, released March 2016, far more recent. Don't know if the UAS issue you found was or not fixed.

Is the drive USB powered?
There is not much one can do. From the log, the drive is not even detected by the linux kernel, which would deploy entries to appear in hot.log, etc.
You can see if the kernel detects it by unplugging the usb cable to the box, issuing the 'dmesg' command and noticing the las few lines output, then re-plugging the USB cable, waiting a couple of seconds, issuing the 'dmesg' command again and seeing if (and what) anything new appeared in its output.

Unfortunately until next monday I'm in a place where my internet connection tops at 10KBps and constantly dropping; it's almost useless and my help is very limited

João,

I extracted disk from the case and connected it to another usb converter. And it's working perfect now.
If you will have ideas how to solve issues with Seagate controller I'm ready to check - I have DNS-323 for testing.

Thank you

I figured out I have the same issue (I guess) with my Seagate STBV4000100. It's a powered USB device (external power supply).

Here's dmesg output w/o my Seagate drive:

I'm still looking for a solution to this issue. I really like RC5, but I may have to downgrade to RC4.1 if there's no solution to this problem.

I don't have a solution. The disk is not detected by the linux kernel, so there is nothing one can do.
The lsusb command probably queries the USB bus directly, so it can find the disk.

Joao,

I think I have the same problem with a Seagate-Backup-HubBK-01 external USB disk. The device works flawlessly with eg an Odroid C2 with kernel 3.14, my Fritzbox and my PC with Ubuntu 16.4 LTS. Just the kernel revision in RC5 seems to cause the problem. Would it be possible to update to another kernel?

Best regards,

Markus

I'm currently using/trying  linux-4.4.22, but of course I don't know if it will work with these drives.
Notice that all reported issues under this topic come from Seagate drives...

A report for RC6 shows the issue is still occurring.

From this bug report, and this, a possible workaround will be to add to /etc/modprobe.conf, before plugging the USB drive:

options usb-storage quirks=0bc2:02312:u

with the 0bc2:02312 value replaced with the value reported by 'lsusb' for your particular drive (you have to install the 'usbutils' Alt-F package for that).
Reported under this topic are vendorId:productid such as 0bc2:2312 and 0bc2:3312, others (mostly Seagate) seems to suffer from the same issue.

Does that works for you?

I'm pondering removing UAS for the next release.
