I got the following error when installing Debian on DNS-320 ver A1 (Alt-F-0.1RC4.1):

News from SourceForge:

#SourceForge There's instability and frequent 500 errors on the SourceForge site currently. We're working on getting this fixed asap

This is the reason, why the error happened.

Waiting for stable SourceForge.

Konrad

It could be, but unfortunately it is not, it's really a bug.
But it has no consequences for you.

RC4.1 is just a RC4 maintenance release, solving most but not all RC4 issues. One of the not solved issues is that 'kexec' is not working for the DNS-320/320L/325 boxes, which means that Debian can't be run in its own on these boxes; you can only 'chroot' Debian from withing Alt-F -- there is another topic where I explain the differences.

As you can't kexec Debian, it makes no sense to kexec Alt-F from within Debian, which is the purpose of installing Alt-F under Debian (and that is the bug).

I tried this, but got errors:
[root@dns320]# debian -chroot /etc/issue
cp: can't stat '/mnt/NAS/etc/default/kexec-debian': No such file or directory
mount: mounting usbfs on /mnt/NAS/proc/bus/usb failed: No such file or directory
chroot: can't execute '/etc/issue': Permission denied

How can I start Debian at all on my DNS-320?

Thanks,
Konrad

This has been already discussed: you can't 'kexec' Debian under Alt-F on a DNS-320/320L/325, only 'chroot' it. If you don't know the difference its not for you.
