We had a power cut this morning and I'm ow trying to boot the DNS-323 back up (Running Alt-f 0.1RC4).  When I press the power button then the blue light flashes once and then nothing happens.

This has happened once before but I really can't remember how I solved it.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

Ok looks like I cracked it.  ejected both the drives, held down power and it started to boot.  Plugged them both back in and I'm off!

I just had a similar issue. My DNS-323 is on a UPS, so when the power went out I logged in and powered it off properly. However after power was back, I wasn't able to power it on. Your suggestion worked for some reason - thanks!

Hi, I know this is an old post but I'm having a similar issue with my DNS 323.

So, are you saying that you pulled both drives, then held the power button until it started to boot up, and then slid the drives back in while it was still booting up?  Is that safe to do without damaging the drives?

Or did you let it boot up first and then turn it off again before pushing the drives back in and putting the cover back on and turning it on again?

Thanks,
John

Hi Johnny and All,

I guess the message here was to remove the drives while the box is poweed off and wait for a while. Then put the drives back in and turn the box on.

I have a faint memory that I had issues powering up my DNS323 revC1 many times a couple of years back. I was also struggling with turning it on and after a while I realised that the power supply got damaged. I tried to have it repaired but I couldn't. I found a spare PSU on Internet but I realised (and was advised) that it's cheaper and more reliable to buy an industrial grade PSU instead. It's also becuase that PSU that was supplied with the NAS was "only" commercial grade, being the weakest link in the chain. The capacitors get dry during the years and the voltage level will become unstable, which causes the NAS to operate strange or not turn on at all after a power cut.

So I checked the power parametres in the manual and found that DNS323 uses dual-power PSU. Fortunately, I found a suitable (and affordable) solution:

I chose the first one and I'm completely satisfied with that as I have been using it for more than 3 years now.

Since the power connector is kind of unique, you need to cut the power cable close to the PSU to keep the cord as long as possible. The pin layout can be checked on the back of the PSU or at the link above for the spare one.

Take extra care of the placement of the new PSU becuase the connectors are not sealed and kind of easy to touch them. Even if the voltage levels are low, the current can get high which is dangerous.

I hope I helped some of you who have similas power issues.

Regards,
István

I 100% agree that it is a power supply issue. I have a DNS-323 and have been having this issue for a while now. Pulling out the HDD's has worked until recently. I found another power brick, so I switched over and it was working for a while, but the backup just died. I pulled out my multimeter and I'm getting 5V on one pin and 0.5 on another. That's why the power lights flash, but the lack of 12V is preventing it from actually starting.. I opened up the power brick and it looks like the capacitors are bad.

Hi Istvan and all

Just a short word to thank you all. I found this thread by deep googling and thanks to you
> I earned much time because I did not have to to investigate for hours
> I bought a very reliable PSU at Meanwell and saved my 10 years old NAS
> feel very happy and proud today as I have just wired everything and installed back the nas

Maybe the reference have changed, but I had to buy a 66W PSU RD-65A.

A few details : The connector on the NAS is what I call "AIR PLANE CONNECTOR".
4 pins : 5V / 12V / COM1 / COM2

COM1 and COM2 are connected to the same source wire. The second black wire in the PSU is used for the circular part of the connector.

Thank you again

Cheers

Superfonx !

Do you have pinout for power supply connector?

I cut the old power cord and the colors match those in a conventional PC power supply (red, black and yellow). I then wired it up to an old Molex connector so I can power it using any old PC power supply.

The temperature sensor is busted, put it in the fridge for a moment (remove the drives first) then it will be good.
