Hi Johnny and All,
I guess the message here was to remove the drives while the box is poweed off and wait for a while. Then put the drives back in and turn the box on.
I have a faint memory that I had issues powering up my DNS323 revC1 many times a couple of years back. I was also struggling with turning it on and after a while I realised that the power supply got damaged. I tried to have it repaired but I couldn't. I found a spare PSU on
Internet but I realised (and was advised) that it's cheaper and more reliable to buy an industrial grade PSU instead. It's also becuase that PSU that was supplied with the NAS was "only" commercial grade, being the weakest link in the chain. The capacitors get dry during the years and the voltage level will become unstable, which causes the NAS to operate strange or not turn on at all after a power cut.
So I checked the power parametres
in the manual and found that DNS323 uses dual-power PSU. Fortunately, I found a suitable (and affordable) solution:
I chose the first one and I'm completely satisfied with that as I have been using it for more than 3 years now.
Since the power connector is kind of unique, you need to cut the power cable close to the PSU to keep the cord as long as possible. The pin layout can be checked on the back of the PSU or at the link above for the spare one.
Take extra care of the placement of the new PSU becuase the connectors are not sealed and kind of easy to touch them. Even if the voltage levels are low, the current can get high which is dangerous.
I hope I helped some of you who have similas power issues.
Regards,
István
