Hi all, I have a trouble for DNS-323 rev-A1: I've 3 of them and starting from RC4 it was impossible for me to upgrade the firmware. Actually I'm forced to use the RC3 and always worked for me the older revisions too.

I only tried the firmware without really flashing it, tried directly and tried after the special reboot. I have olso 3 DNS-323 rev-B1 and the upgrade always worked on them  as for the RC4, so for the RC4.1; The ugrade always worked on my DNS-325 too, up to the latest RC4.1

Until now I waited the next revision after the RC4 thinking it could be a temporary trouble and I've never found similar issue in the forum or in the bug list. But now, because I still continue meeting this trouble, I'm trying to ask to you about it.

After the firmware upgrade the NAS receive the IP, and the ping works fine, but it isn't accessible neither by http, neither trought telnet, so I'm not able to understand what is the trouble. I only think that the services don't start regulary.
The hdd blue leds are on and the ethernet blue led is working, and I'm able to shout down the nas pushing the start button and releasing it just when the second yellow led starts to flash, after that the first yellows led have flashed too.

I'll apreciate any help

There has been a kernel upgrade between RC3 and RC4, that might be the issue. I have a 323-rev-B1 myself, but there are no 323-rev-A1 negative reports.

Does Samba works?

Probably. But then Samba should work.

So Alt-F is working. You are probably right, it must be a inetd service start issue.
Some file on disk or on flash-memory might be conflicting.

While in RC3 Start saving a copy of settings to your computer, System->Settings, use the Download button
1-clear settings, System->Settings->ClearSettings, then TryIt RC4.1;
2-if the above didn't work, boot the box without disks attached, then TryIt RC4.1

Worked? which one?
-If 1 alone worked you have to fix the settings file before Uploading the saved one to the box,
-if it was 2 that worked you have to fix the offending file on the disk.

Hi Joao,

It worked in the 2 way but let me write something about the steps:

- I forgot to check if SAMBA worked  (sorry)

1)  Just resetting the system setting DIDN'T worked, the results were exactly like the previous mine

2) I tried pulling out the two disks (the system settings were resetted before so I haven't resetted them again), And Tryedit!!! the RC4.1

It rebooted into RC4.1 revision :) :) :) and I needed skipping the config because without disks it stucked in a configuration page.
The firmware looked to be working well, so I Flashed it and rebooted.
It rebooted againg right, so I powered it off, and inserted the disks.

But after having powered it on, it showed to have again the unwanted issue so I couldn't access it another time.

I pulled out the disks and rebooted and the firmware started working correctly.
At start it asked to me to insert the new password two times but I was sure to have done it the previus time, so I inserted it and SAVED the configuration. I powered it down and inserted the disks and powerd it on again.

   IT WORKED!

I think that something that is detected during the boot WITHOUT the disks NEED TO BE INSERTED INTO THE CONFIGURATION, may be that if not, the detection of the disks happens earlier than something else and the startup breaks some services.

This means that IF I reset the system config then I'll loose it again and I need to pull out the disks to boot without them and saving the settings.

ANYWAY MANY MANY THANKS I FINALLY HAVE THEM WORKING with RC4.1  (I haven't tried the  RC4 but I thing it could have the same problem).

Thanks for your work

Hi Joao,

It worked in the 2 way but let me write something about the steps:

Thanks a lot for the detailed and at the same time synthetic procedure description! Having accurate feedback on how issues are/aren't solved is important.

- I forgot to check if SAMBA worked  (sorry)

That's the only missing piece of information

This issue must be related with settings files found on disk shadowing the ones from the firmware/flash memory. This is required but under certain circumstances can cause problems.

This means that IF I reset the system config then I'll loose it again and I need to pull out the disks to boot without them and saving the settings.

I thing that now it must be fixed. The configuration file that was causing the issue must now be also correct on disk.

ANYWAY MANY MANY THANKS I FINALLY HAVE THEM WORKING with RC4.1  (I haven't tried the  RC4 but I thing it could have the same problem).

Thanks for your work
