Hi folks!

Recently, I experienced some slowness on my network.

When checking the status page, i saw that my network is showing 100mbps.

I clearly remember to see there showin as 1000mbps, but anyway, where do I change that to 1000?

I also remember that this option exists on stock firmware, but I can't recall in Alt-F where to change.

My router is gigabit, and my cables are cat5, don't know what was changed.

Thanks!

There is no such tuning in the webUI, Alt-F always tries to connect at the top speed.
You might try to install and use the 'ethtool' package.
But start by exchanging the network cable first. Cables suffer damages, as well as lamp bulbs -- suddenly they stop working.

But the cable that I might check are from the router to the NAS, right?

I changed it to a newest one recently (not a poor one made my me in the past), and I can't remember if the problem started after this.

Anyway, this cable was upgraded to a cat5e, and it's one of those "armored" cables, not a handcrafted one.

Bad thing is, I threw away the old cable.... :-(

If I use ethtool, can I somehow "force" it to use 1000mbps?

Try with another cable from another equipment that is working at 1Gbps?

If it is a hardware issue/cable-fault I doubt, as speed is auto-negotiated. It can certainly be set to a lower speed than the maximum, but not above what the system sees possible. Try running ethtool to see what it says about. In one of my systems:

[root@DNS-327L]# ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP MII ]
        Supported link modes:   10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full

After almost one year, I faces other slowness, and remembered that I still have my NAS at 100Mb/s.

look my output:

[root@NAS]# ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP AUI BNC MII FIBRE ]
        Supported link modes:   10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Full
        Supported pause frame use: No
        Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
        Advertised link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Full
        Advertised pause frame use: No
        Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Link partner advertised link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                             100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Link partner advertised pause frame use: No
        Link partner advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
        Speed: 100Mb/s
        Duplex: Full
        Port: MII
        PHYAD: 8
        Transceiver: external
        Auto-negotiation: on
        Supports Wake-on: d
        Wake-on: d
        Link detected: yes

So, since it shows the maximum as 100Mb/s, there's nothing much to do regarding the configuration, right? Just need to test some cables....

BINGO! Just changed the cable to a new one (found one inside the box from my old router), and speed reported is now 1000Mb/s!
