Hi,

I flushed my DNS-323 with the latest ALT-F release (RC4). All works fine, but I have a strange behavior during the disk sleep mode:

1. Blinking LEDs: LED blinks right/left (yellow) ; 1 second pause, start over
2. Noise: metallic sound, like bump-starting a wheel on a metallic axle, slows down within 1 second; sleep one second; at the end of slow-down a scratching
3. sometimes no sound at all, but still blinking LEDs; sound starts again after 30-40 seconds.

Any hints?

That is NOT normal. Metallic noises from the disk drives looks like the Click of death
If only appears when the drive is going to standby it might indicate that the drive is going to sleep and readly wakeup. Do smart test Disk->Utilities->health

Ok, Thanks for the hint to the LED flashing. Currently I am not able to understand flashing for spin down of disks, because the disks were not active for more than 15 minutes; and suddenly the flashing starts.

For the strange sound I believe, it is caused by the fan. I observed the following.

No sound at all up to 39.5 degrees. Between 39.5 and 40.5. I hear the sound. Starting with 41 degrees, the fan is constantly working ; no scratching ;
I tried to find a way to adjust the lower heat to 41 degrees, but did not found something in the menus. Is there a configuration file for it?

And yes, I use the RC4.1 release :-)

The default spindown value is 20 minutes, Disk->Utilities, Spindown

Services->System->sysctrl, Configure. The webUI has an online help (?) blue icon, use it.
