G'day everyone,

Just wanted to give you all a head's up that the first release candidate of the Alfresco Bulk Import Tool v2.0 is now available.  This version of the tool has been developed specifically for Alfresco v5.0 and up.

I'd be very appreciative of any feedback anyone is able to provide after testing it in their environments, to help ensure the GA release is of as high a quality as possible.

The release is available directly from here [1], and updated documentation is available here [2].  Due to the magnitude of changes in this release (most of which are under-the-covers, so won't necessarily be visible to end users), this release has had pretty extensive testing, but as with any major update, the rubber hits the road out in the real world.  I'd particularly appreciate feedback from folks in Microsoft environments - I no longer have ready access to such an environment so there has been no focused testing there in some time.

The primary new feature in this release is support for "pluggable sources" [3], allowing 3rd party developers to develop support for new content sources (beyond the built in "local filesystem" source), without being forced to fork the code to do so.  The documentation for this new feature is still being written [4], but I'm happy to field any questions in the meantime.

The other major change involved a variety of new techniques that further optimise ingestion performance.  Together these have approximately quadrupled the throughput for a streaming import of the test data [5] in my local environment.  I hope to hear of improvements in the real world too, although perhaps not of that magnitude.

The full set of changes in this release is available here [6].

Cheers,
Peter
