Just tried to copy the reuters data set into Solr 4.0 where Lucene is complaining over the old index format. Any plans to upgrade the tutorial, or is there a convenient way to upgrade the index.

I'm not currently using Solr in any projects, but the options are either to (1) import Reuters data into a Solr 4.0 instance and upload that, (2) fix the current download to be Solr 4.0 compatible or (3) create a new demo dataset for Solr 4.0. If anyone wants to take that on, it'd be much appreciated!

FYI. I just setup solr4 working well with ajax-solr. (not set spellingcheck but setup my own highlighting which is pretty cool)

Why not just upload the reuters xml files? People can use whatever version of Solr they want.

Hello, Liu

I was wondering how you set up your solrUrl to connect with solr4.

Hi James,
No-one seems to be stepping up to creating the index for Sorl 4.x.
I've been over @ the solr-user list and no-one over there seems to be able to help with build it wither.
I am honestly not familiar with the format of the files contained within the reuters tar.gz and for some reason can't find ANY SolrJS code to see how the original index was built... As far as I know there was code (within Solr 1.3 or 1.4???) which enabled the production of the original index which we currently use for the ajax-solr tutorial.

Anyone any ideas about creating the index from the files?

The question came up off-list again recently, so a few days ago I added a "Building the Solr index from the Reuters data" section to the wiki at: https://github.com/evolvingweb/ajax-solr/wiki/Reuters-tutorial

Assuming the ReutersService.java file still works in Solr 4, it should be able to import the data. If you give it a try and it works, we can update the instructions - if not, we can see if we can debug it.

Why do you need the Reuters data? You can follow the tutorial by using the hosted Solr index at http://evolvingweb.ca/solr/reuters/, or you can use a Solr index with your own data and just change things appropriately in the tutorial.

I'll give this a shot tomorrow when I get into the office.

This is a very valid point and I take it on board completely however there would be no harm in us creating an index specifically for Solr 4. The existing one is not compatable and it is nothing short of a waste of time for people (like myself and others on this thread) that check out Solr 4 and attempt to get it working then to find that it does not.
