Ok we think it is time to get all the translated documents into one place, thank you all for your patience.

We have set up a project https://code.google.com/p/ai-docs-en-info/ with several repositories, it really is simple, even though it has many options that make it seem difficult.

The files we are using are a little different than the originals. They contain the same wording as the originals but some of the links are updated to work correctly, along with a couple other little things.

Translation teams: Where are you saving your translated documents?
If you already have translated some of the original documents can you get them to me?
I will add the translation part you did to the project files.

We have set up some short tutorials on the wiki of how to use the hosted repository.
One comment was: "the explanation is quite complete and easy to use" thanks Fadjar

We want to add current translation team members to this project so we ALL can commit changes.
We will attempt to update the project members daily, wish us luck!
Fill out this form and we will add you as a member of the project.

As we get translated files into the project, we will...
  • update this spreadsheet of documents that have been translated - AI Translated Docs: FileList
  • each Team Leader can review the changed documents
    • add Line-by-Line Comments(yellow), to be seen by others they need to be published(blue)
    • to publish online comments, add a General Comment then click 'Submit'
  • we will work on getting the translated documents into the App Inventor projects
  • we will host all the translated documents on a website
Ready, set, GO

Jeff, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I have officially moved worry about the translations off my back!

Here is the web site http://appinventor4all.org/

I updated the Resources page http://appinventor4all.org/docs/forum/

Now if I can find folks to take over working on updating the content, I will have more off my back.

I'm going to give myself a treat, play with my NXT!

The NXT (Bob) was played with.

I look forward to getting all the teams up
and on the web site.

and

Are all the teams members of your repository Jeff?
I have not put out the email, working on getting the buildserver up in Windows. (it works - almost... :-))

and, we need more languages, say Haitian Creole. The ISO 639-1 language code is ht.

Have we standardized on unicode (utf-8?) and eol (cr)?

and...

Hmmm

editing HTML...

Does notepad++ tidy up the code?

eg: If I have been hot and heavy with editing some HTML, how can I get it all nicely formatted?

and CSS

=====
I use jEdit. That is because it runs everywhere and it supports lots of programming languages.
It knows about HTML.

I'm thinking it is not a great choice for most (but I love jEdit ;-))

and

I would really like us all to have a basic Eclipse to use. The docs are part of the source. The source, including the docs, is very nice to work with in Eclipse.

Eclipse is easy to install, but takes a lot more to get it configured how I think it should be configured.

I am going to keep working with Eclipse, with a goal in mind that the teams use whatever they want,
as long as the source is in the repository as clean as we got it.

Hmmm...

Sorry, my last email went directly to you, Jeff, and out of the ai4a list.

I put an eye in the Spreadsheet. I think that Directory 'Setup' is a good point to continue with the Spanish Translation. In appeareance it don't crash with other translation efforts.

I shall load the work realized in this repository and in hispanic-ai as backup or work-in-progress.

Helo, Jeff. Some matters:

  • Finally I could try this link. I shall track your indications and shall begin to load the translated pages as '2' versions.
  • *Previously* I shall check the translated pages already loaded to avoid undesired overwrites ;-)
  • In the other hand, I suppose that the status of 'contributor' is sufficient to allow me to load the files.
  • About the scope, my intention is to touch *all* the pages, but it would be necessary to distribute the work, I think. Perhaps by sections of the tree of documents.
  • For this last point I shall reflect my work in the Spreadsheet  AI Translated Docs: FileList

You could rename the files you translated such as
/about/ index.html to index2.html
/about/moreinfo/ index.html to index2.html
then upload them to the Spanish repository here
notice this link is already in lang-es repo and in the about directory
for more files, you can click 'browse' , click the directory, click upload
?intiendes?

Everyone (translation for Southern-English = All ya all),

Thank you for your patience as I work through this process.
I hope these new Wiki pages answer most of your recent questions.
Notes for Translators - A list of things to keep in mind when translating
Tools to use  - A list of tools you can use when working with this project
Notepad++ - How to setup and use Notepad++ with this project

@Gary
Q - I use jEdit. That is because it runs everywhere and it supports lots of programming languages. It knows about HTML.
A - Notepad++ is similar to jEdit in that it keeps raw HTML neat, clean and recognizes many programming languages and colors up the programming tags.

Q - we need more languages, say Haitian Creole. The ISO 639-1 language code is ht.
A - I will be adding new language repositories as needed, such as Haitian Creole, lang-ht

Q - Simplified and Traditional Chinese are two different languages
A - will be correcting the Chinese repos, should they be lang-zh-Hans for Simplified and lang-zh-Hant for Traditional?

>runs everywhere
as in it is not limited to Windows. Most do not need to be concerned with that.
I think folks should try Notepad++.

How well does Notepad++ tidy up code, make it all nicely aligned and pretty?

Q - we need more languages, say Haitian Creole. The ISO 639-1 language code is ht.

lang-ht?
when did a lang-?? prefix creep in?

Q - Simplified and Traditional Chinese are two different languages
A - will be correcting the Chinese repos, should they be lang-zh-Hans for Simplified and lang-zh-Hant for Traditional?

we are using the IANA language subtags www.iana.org/assignments/language-subtag-registry

Mandarin Chinese would be zh-cmn
Chinese written in simplified script would be zh-Hans
Bahamas Creole English would be en-bah
Portugese for the region Brazil would be pt-BR

I think...
Choosing a language tag

Texian is en-US-x-texian
I'm fixin to mosey over to my editor and translate some Texian, Y'all are welcome to visit.

We have at least two targets

public web sites
App Inventor servers

Our public web server,  http://appinventor4all.org/, is running on Apache2. You did a great job Jeff setting up MultiViews

The App Inventor servers use Jetty (I think). We can set up some code so App Inventor uses the same Apache MultiViews language negotiation set up (or so I think...) with a bit of code.

Then we have one repository that works for ALL :-)

-----

and I would go on (and on and on) but I need to read your updates to the documentation
and play with the Skyrim Creation Kit
and work on getting the buildserver to work on Windows
and well
  I do go on...

Gary

I was joking around about the lang- prefix

We use what makes sense, lang-en makes sense.

and use the IANA language subtags on the pages.

Q - How well does Notepad++ tidy up code, make it all nicely aligned and pretty?
A - It works and I have used it, are the current docs not neat enough? although,
  1. I do not recommend using "Tidy" in Notepad++ to change documents that get pushed back to the translation project, because that would change the entire file in a repository changeset, looks like all the lines of a file were deleted and all new lines were added, which causes a problem with 'merge' in Mercurial / TortoiseHg
  2. If you want to use it on files that you will not push back to the translation project, then go right ahead.
Q - lang-ht? when did a lang-?? prefix creep in?
A - just for the extension on the repos, such as http://code.google.com/p/ai-docs-en-info/source/checkout?repo=lang-id
not for the file names, for Apache server for example, which would be like all the web pages you mentioned above, which I already referenced to get the language negotiation working as it is. File names would look like index.html.en , index.html.idindex.html.ht , and so on.
And the IANA language subtags is where I got zh-Hans and zh-Hant...
Tag: zh-Hans
Description: simplified Chinese

Tag: zh-Hant
Description: traditional Chinese

so...
repo = http://code.google.com/p/ai-docs-en-info/source/checkout?repo=lang-zh-hans
file name = index.html.zh-Hans
repo = http://code.google.com/p/ai-docs-en-info/source/checkout?repo=lang-zh-hant
file name = index.html.zh-Hant

Another example: Portugese for the region Brazil would be pt-BR
File name = index.html.pt-BR

Q - public web sites vs. App Inventor servers
A - this is one reason why the languages have seperate repositories, the translated files should not get mixed and can be moved / copied / merged / renamed into any other project. (will be Tutorializing this soon enough)

you are making an assumption Jeff
you are assuming the files I want to be aligned are part of the translation project, I was asking how well Notepad++ did with making HTML source look nice and tidy. I guess your answer is it does work.

sounds good to me
are each of the teams giving input

Have you been testing merging everything back to a local repository cloned from the source from MIT?
